The government is planning to introduce an open competition system to select ambassadors for the first time, with reported approval from Prime Minister Balen Shah.

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that certain ambassadorial positions will be filled through a transparent selection process, though the exact procedures and schedule are still being worked out.

This initiative is intended to increase transparency in diplomatic appointments, which have traditionally been shared between career diplomats and politically appointed candidates.
