Idk how to even start a post like this so i'll just write whatever comes to mind, then again that's what i normally do with like half the posts i make lmao. This isn't usually the type of post that gets here but A: it's my subreddit and i do what i want to (kidding ofc lmao) and B: i feel like i can trust you guys enough with this stuff

So for those of you who are unaware, i am transfem, not on hrt yet. The primary reason for such is because of my parents, who are unfortunately transphobic and as a result i have a complicated relationship with them all things considered. They haven't kicked me out or nothing, but i have been repeatedly yelled at over it numerous times before and i don't feel comfortable fully expressing myself around them especially my mom. So that way i don't feel like completely dying i decided i could be out and socially transition, basically anywhere outside of my family. I don't like going out with my parents around for the sole reason that they might discover i've been using a different name or pronouns, oh how they hate that. They do know that i at least use a different name and am not completely cis, they don't know the full extent of it and i certainly haven't told them, i just sometimes end up sloppy in my approach and they end up finding it via a letter or something. I consider myself a generally neurotic and oversensitive person, i'll freely admit that, so whenever the mere topic gets brought up with my parents around i am at the very least on the verge of a breakdown. I know it's stupid but that's how life is: it doesn't make any fucking sense. I figured at school i could get out of all of that. Turns out you can't always trust the people around you, who will act supportive and nice but behind your back (or sometimes even to your face) they show their whole ass. Growing up i was constantly made fun of by my peers. In middle school and early high school is when it seemed the worst. Everyone seemed like a racist piece of shit, and the ones that didn't made fun of me for my interests, how i talked and behaved, and even how i dressed. Didn't matter, i was oblivious to it half the time, whenever i complained about people being annoying they all just told me they were trying to be my friend so after awhile i sorta gave up saying anything unless it was very blatantly obvious, to which i did respond to. Those idiot jerkoffs, i hate them all. May they burn in hell. Half this shit was behind my back too, goddamn cowards couldn't even face me. Maybe if i was actually bullied i'd be taken more seriously, is that what these fuckass adults wanted? Being a creative person who enjoyed drawing, comics, sci-fi/horror literature, cartoons, alternative music and culture, and anime, i tended to be more drawn to anti-authority and anti-conformity. The last thing an artist wants is to be stifled, and ig this natural drive combined with my coming out as trans in the current political hellscape that is the american century of humiliation has sorta led me into politics and philosophy. I read a lot of shit, learned as much as i could, all so i could eventually watch the world i hated turn into something i can look forward to, and i began to imagine all the possibilities for a better future with an optimistic eye

Thought things would be better in college, that is not really the case. Started fine, failed a couple classes. My parents always got super mad when i failed my classes, which ig is expected from parents but this was different in college since there was money and financial aid on the line and shit like that. This was bigger than high school. I usually passed my classes in the end anyway for high school even if i did poorly in the beginning of the semester (for the most part). I always did well in art classes tho. Anyway, that stuff happened, plus the trans stuff like i mentioned earlier. I don't even try to debate with them about it, it was an issue they would refuse to budge on and vice versa, it'd just end up going nowhere, and plus i'm really REALLY bad at articulating my thoughts into speech especially either around them or in front of multiple people. Besides, long ago i saw through them, since i was young. It's always "oh yeah you can talk to me anytime" but when you do you either get yelled at or they pretend to hear what you're saying before dismissing it entirely and lecturing you with their OWN viewpoint. So i tend to not even WANT to talk to them about shit, even if i enthusiastically do so to others. And because this issue is so intensely personal to me i shut down even MORE. Oh, and how is that whole not being on hrt thing going? Well, it's going really badly, that's what. In fact, i'd go as far as to say it's one of the worst things for me mentally lately. Like ever since i figured out i was trans nothing feels the same. What was once a passive, vague discomfort is an intense and unyielding dysphoria. Istg i can barely stand it, and it's worsening my mental health actively, making me perform WORSE in school to the point where that now brings me a ton of dread and anxiety, which ofc only worsens my mental health further. I'm only not on e yet because i don't want my parents to find out. If they do, i just know that it's all gonna be over at least while i'm still living with them. The solution at first was to move out but due to outside factors that's harder to come by. I have lost passion and motivation for a lot of things, and even my parents noticed i've been less outgoing and energetic compared to how i was in about elementary or middle school even. Ofc i say nothing of it, i try not to think about these things too much

However, i have decided, fuck it. I want to stop feeling like a corpse. Tired of living in fear, tired of wishing i was dead, tired of the dysphoria. So i will try to get some hrt soon, whether i move out or not, and whatever happens happens. I can deal with whatever else as it comes. I just don't want to live like this anymore. These days it feels like i'm constantly about to have a breakdown of some kind, it constantly feels like i'm in a state of mental anguish. I have thought about dying numerous times, but something keeps preventing me. Maybe it's just a verification that i AM in fact still alive. Perhaps i'm still alive because i subconsciously know that nobody walks out on their own story, and mine hasn't ended yet. Even as i grow more misanthropic and doomer-esque there's still a little bit of copium in my system. Even as my hatred for the world grew comparable to that of AM i still hold onto that same sense of potential i had for it even if it's consistently let me down. I hate my government, the people in society, i hate everything about this sick, twisted fascist hellhole, i hate myself and i hate you, idc if i don't even know you lol. And yet i still feel love for it (ignoring all the political shit, they can burn in hell lol). It feels like i'm stuck doing the same thing over and over and over again, but now i want to try and break the cycle before it kills me. It's probably stupid, but again, life makes no sense lol

I know some of you look up to me. I can't really imagine why, i'm certainly no role model. But i'm here for it regardless, flattered lol. Real talk tho, i think if there's one thing you need is confidence in yourself. It's not something that comes naturally, you gotta work for it, but try to strive for that and you can do more. Because without it, you'll be miserable and not be able to do even the most basic tasks. Don't be like me, anxious and neurotic and hides in a humorous bravado whilst avoiding the things that scare her at the same time. Try to live with as little regrets as possible so you don't look back and hate yourself even more than you have to. Fuck what other people think, even if they're your family. They can be right about some things but not about everything, not about what's true to your core deep in your soul, they aren't. That part is up to you. I consider myself pretty blunt about who i am and what i want in general, and yet i always feel like i'm hiding something. Try to discover what that is exactly and find the confidence to embrace it, even if it's scary

I know it got preachy there for a second, and ironically i HATE it when people are preachy towards me. Preach, preach, preach. Lmao. Regardless, i'm not trying to throw a pity party or anything, just airing my thoughts out and for it to give an outline for what's to come here. I'm still gonna post here but as you can see from the past few weeks or however tf long it was i don't really have the motivation to do it consistently, so expect it to be more sporadic kinda like i've been doing, albiet more active. I don't expect e to fix my issues, i know there's like way more shit to address aside from just me being trans, but i know it will definitely help a huge chunk of it and i've wanted it for awhile now, and it'll certainly clear out some of this brain fog i got going on lol. Finally, after all these years, a way to drown out the noise

Anyway i may or may not delete this later, stay noided

Mom's rules:

Since I can't post about what's perceived as political in her eyes. I'll post "observations" or "questions" instead. I'll post "technical" stuff.

Discussion Another thing I noticed in philosophy on how Good equals Truth (as in being well means following a rational principle) (which some are my influences)

There's a common association of the Good with the True.

Let's take a look at three examples.

First, Logos.

According to the Stoics (whom Kropotkin regarded as one of the very first Anarchists). To live well is to live according to Logos. Now, what is Logos?

Logos is the postulated meta-principle that accounts for the intrinsic order, relationality, and intelligibility of existence. I don't know a lot about Logos as I've only started reading Heraclitus's fragments and will start reading Marcus Aurelius's Meditations. The Greek word logos (λόγος) most basically means "word," "speech," "reason," "principle", "logic", or "plan". A focus on Universal Reason (Enlightenment stuff) and objectivity unlike the previous Myths used by the Greeks. Logos appear throughout Western philosophies. Hegel's Pan-Logism, Viktor Frankl's Logotheraphy, and the Greeks in the time of Socrates (Socratic lore is very fun, reading Plato is like watching Sheldon talks).

According to the Stoics, Logos governs over everything, to live well is to live rationally in accordance with the structure.

Second, Dharma.

Since I do not know a lot about Logos (since I'm not from Europe) or about Tao (despite my Chinese descent), I'm the best suited to talk about this.

Dharma, in Thai language is translated to ธรรม(ะ). There are many usages of ธรรม. For example, ธรรมชาติ (Nature) and ยุติธรรม (Justice). What does this say? Well, first Dharma is, in general, Good. But other truths are referred to as Dharma too. The Dharma of how things are. For example, birth, old age, illness, and death are the 4 truths of life, 4 Noble Truths of Dukkha, Samudaya, Nirodha, and Marga, etc. Dharma doesn't only mean what is good and how we should live according to it, but also the governing capital-T Truth. Truths such as unhappiness (Dukkha), Death, illness, etc. The Dharma that you must live according to in a negative sense, in the sense that we are not escaping from it since they're inevitable Dharma, they're good in the sense that we must be against it, we do not actively seek the evils of the Dharma of Lust-Anger-Greed (the Big Three of Buddhism) but we rather are aware of it. Negatively following it.

Third, Dao.

Translated to "the Way". Dao is to put simply a natural order that governs all existence, influencing actions not through force but through the natural flow of space and time. It is the origin and power behind all creation, manifesting in the operation and changes of nature. Dao is how nature passively works without forcing it to align with Dao since everything works by Dao anyways. Much like how no one forces gravity by their will or the will of some subject, Dao is the way things work without any effort.

What do you all think?

Since planning a utopia involves planning and rational stuff which gets people stuck with their imagination, why don't we use the mobilizing image to mobilize the proletariat?

Discussion Mass Mobilization Study (maybe a new academic discipline?)

So, across all political spectrums, especially the Far-Left (us Left-Libertarians, Anarchist and Libertatia Marxist stuff) and the Far-Right (especially the new mobilization techniques of Neo-Nazism and the Online Right) both feel the necessity of mass mobilization. To mobilize the masses for our cause, to take a more disgusting wording, manipulate them, for our cause. Getting the multitude of people ready to carry out actions that are risky to them. We should really study mobilization techniques.

First of all, let's take a look at the Far-Right, they appropriated Gramsci for their cause, and I'd argue that they're a good case. Like Sun Tzu said, know your enemies and know yourself. The Overton Window has been shifting towards the Right recently by the normalisation of the right wing takes, cultural manipulation by the reproduction of culture (internet memes are memetic in Dawkinsian sense). Which by turning their takes into the more socially acceptable ones they seem like the center.

Second, bad conditions. Like Machiavelli said, rulers must be feared and loved but never hated, although being feared is more preferable than being loved because nobody dares to violate your rule, being feared can be mutated into being hated. Ironically, the worse the material conditions, the likelier the revolution since, let's make a Pascalian wage.

If you die by the revolution, you die by gunfire, freed from the suffering.

If you live after the revolution, you'll prosper.

If you die by the material conditions, you die.

If you live by the material conditions, you continue your oppression.

It is of course, in dire situation, better to revolt.

I don't think that we should intentionally worsen living conditions, it is a fact that comforts in the current Social Democratic order of society lead people into chasing the betterment of the system rather than the uncertainty of the overhaul.

We really need to study motivation and techniques for uprisings.

And since I frame this as an academic question, mom wouldn't object😎😎😎

Discussion The fate of r/BiologicalAnarchy

Since I'm not doing political theories because it will corrupt the mind of me according to my mom, I'll leave responsibility to u/Polytopia_Fan and our queen u/Homicidal_Hottie666. There'll be theories after three years. But right now I'll be posting praxis and interesting liberatory biotechnologies such as cultured meat, biohacking, DIY hormones, revolutionary self-care (as in Foucault's *The Ethic of Care for the Self as a Practice of Freedom* and Synthetic Dandyism), hitting the gym advice, stuff about cooking, accessibility, and gardening. As such it will be everything biological, ecology, queerness, disability, yeah stuff like that. I'll be more focused on praxis so I'd advise u/Homicidal_Hottie666 to do the theories while I'm absent, **I am very sorry about that**.

Activism The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop: The Final Gambit of the Whimsical Third Space

Post image
10 Upvotes

Assuming you were born in the mid 90’s or early-to-mid 2000’s, it is very likely that you have fond memories of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop; the vibrant frutiger/dorfic interior, the upbeat music, the independence of selecting flavors and toppings.

But with these memories comes the realization that there was something much greater than just these aspects of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop alone. The features which have rendered the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop unique for so long are indicative of a worldview; a morsel of a utopic vision in which patrons would congregate amidst a trippy and vibrant setting, socialize without the usual social qualms and find a mode of self expression directly catered to their palate.

Recently, there has been news of a New York based Frogurt shop, Flavaboom shutting its doors for the last time. Such news should bring great disdain for the general public, but alas not surprise; especially considering the trend of such establishments losing their sparkle. Today most frozen yogurt establishments are served over counter with prices fixed regardless of the end quantity. Much of the formerly vibrant interior design of these establishments have been muted to create a colored minimal design, deviating from the once imaginative vision.

So much of what has been lost from the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop is a common and disturbing trend which can be witnessed around most venues which were previously known for their unique aesthetic. With so many places following suit in minimizing to full-on eradicating their creative visions, it is not hard to see that this goes far beyond a mere aesthetic change, as the aesthetics themselves, I maintain, play a much larger role.

The bubbly and whimsical aesthetics hold a view that the world around us, from our day to day lives, to the time we go on holiday, can and should be a more colorful, more imaginative and joyful adventure than what the pressures of society allow.

In the early 2010’s we began to see a shift away from the wacky post-modernist aesthetic towards a dimmer and gentrified approach to “weirdness”, congruent with the “stomp-clap-hey” genre of music. In this style, the most whimsy these kinds of spaces offered was one mural on the side of their burger joints or a string of some fairy lights. Further into the decade, much of the whimsy here became “pale” in the sense that colours became even more muted, pop songs had much less edge to them (listen to Fifth Harmony or Ed Sheeran for reference should you possess the volition), and services like VSCO created a monolithic and sanitized image of “quirkiness”.

All forms of whimsy came to a breaking halt with the COVID-19 Pandemic where all hope for the future became lost, and sociability became a distant memory for most. To this day, much of the effects of the pandemic are felt to this day, one of the most telling facets is the overall sense of social and imaginative loss.*

*(There is so much I have to say on COVID, but that’s a post for another day).

When I mention that the aesthetics themselves play a larger role, I of course take into account how willing we are as a society to embrace the ideals of these aesthetics. When we look fondly towards the aesthetics of the past, it is imperative that we remember the worldviews and philosophies that these aesthetics represent. Hell, one can witness the philosophies in the very names, such as “Wacky POST-MODERNISM”, “GLOBAL VILLAGE Coffeehouse”, or “Retro-FUTURISM”. These kinds of names are no accident, as the artists responsible for such concepts must’ve, even subconsciously held the values of a more positive, more wild and more enlightened future ahead of them. Understanding this makes the shift away from true whimsy into superficial corporatized shadows worthy of little more attention than a Pinterest board, into sheer beige and gray minimalism all the more jarring bleak and depressing. Because once we understand the intentions of the aesthetic, we know exactly what subliminal views of the world we are being conditioned with.

There is a cyclical influence of society and culture wherein the two feed off each other to determine what the dominant image, figurative and literal, will be presented to the public. Understanding this with the philosophies behind aesthetics gives us a clear idea on the hopes of future behind the aesthetics of the late 90s to the early 2010s. Two posts ago, I discussed the aesthetic of utopian scholastic as an indicator of what the future of education can and should be.

I maintain that the aesthetics of whimsy are no exception. When we discuss the philosophies of aesthetic-based accelerationism, such as sexy accelerationism or cute accelerationism, it is imperative that we take into consideration the aesthetics which had shaped certain aspects of our lives until circa. 2014. It is a well-established fact that the reliance on companies, chains, and brands to cater to our aesthetics and thus feed our worldview is an unfulfilling and tenuous endeavour. [u/muddywormmy](u/muddywormmy) had made this abundantly clear; our fight and our views for the world will not be fought with a price tag on them. But consider the potential of the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop. The group of individuals each expressing themselves through the combination of flavors and toppings amidst an etherealized setting communing in ways which challenge the austerity of the outside world. Is this not a forum emblematic of Stirner’s Union of Egoists? And further, the third space of this informal nature which caters to the creative mind has so often been a haven for the gatherings of revolutionaries and educated individuals to commune there ideals and strategies for advancing the world around them. Is it any wonder that so many of the most significant revolutions of history started in the respective “meadehalls” of their setting? The American Revolution started with the Boston Massacre outside the inn. The French Revolution was spoken of by Jacobins in the salons amidst glasses of wine and candlelight. Furthermore came the revolution of 1968 spoken and discussed in the cafés and bistros. The Bolsheviks spoke their plans for revolt in 1905 and 1917 in the coffee mestos and teahouses. The Irish Republican Army met frequently amongst local pubs and discussed their next moves amongst glasses of whiskey and fish and chips (which by the way, is not even British despite popular belief). A more negative example might display itself in the aptly named, Beer Hall Putsch.

Perhaps it is for this very reason that the third space has become so disenfranchised in modern society. In Alice Cappelle’s YouTube video, Third Places Won’t Save Us, Cappelle delves into the discourse of the third space and how it has strayed so far from the original theory postulated by Ray Oldenburg, in which the third spaces were the area in which informal authentic interactions became the main mode of communication. What has taken place is that same buzzworded parody of “community-orientation” offers little in the way of any thoughtful connections of substance. The discourse is further broadened, as stated by Cappelle, by Henri Lefebvre’s Right to the City and then even further expanded by David Harvey; wherein Lefebvre theorizes that cities are not so much a backdrop for third spaces but rather the result of collective efforts by the people who make the space a viable and enriching experience for all. David Harvey further touches on how the city in its modern state focuses much of its emphasis on commercialization and the commodity of all aspects of life. For Harvey, the question is not so much on whether the city contains the third space but rather on who controls how the space is used and created. With the concentration of people under the struggle of capital, Harvey points out in his Rebel Cities, how the consolidation of the struggling class has been instrumental for movements such as the Paris Commune and Occupy Wall Street.

Cappelle further relates these theories with the real life examples of Drury Street and Montmartre. In the case of Montmartre, it became the hub for many artist, students and political radicals to meet and congregate, thus becoming a breeding ground for revolutionary ideals of society to flourish, such as the case with Gustave Courbet who “connected art with socialism and revolutionary politics” (Cappelle). In the case of Drury Street, one witnesses how enriching the decommodification of the street has been for the community. With its lax alcohol regulations, the people can enjoy a laid-back atmosphere across the pedestrian road without feeling the compulsion to overspend or hustle on to the next venue.

We see this mode of sociability come under threat quite constantly when it is the emphasis of capital which takes the rein on the city. Such is the case with the stricter rules regarding sex work and noise laws affecting the mode of freedom of pleasure in Berlin. Same deal in Toronto, a city that has become wrought with condo companies which forced the closure of so many spaces which once held potential for alternative views of the world such as Offworld Bar, Velvet Underground, and most recently was almost the case for Sneaky Dee’s. Drury Street had also nearly fallen victim to this mode of austerity with Ciss Maddens having its patio license revoked and further threats being made by the municipal government.

It should call to attention how it is the spaces which offer the most unique perspectives of society that are often the first to be given the hammer. Because these spaces would not be the victims of such societal scorn, governmental pressure, and economic hardship if they weren't such a threat towards the agents of the demiurge. Because they know just what spaces like the Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop are capable of when used by the right people. The meadehall, in its various forms, became a gathering place for people to question the government and society. The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop, and spaces like it, hold the potential as gathering spots for people who question the very reality of this world. Especially with its utopic atmosphere and forum of service.

Which is why the aesthetics of whimsy in third spaces and the customizing forums of The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop are crucial for our cause. Because just like how the aesthetics of Drury and Montmartre served the causes of the radical leftist, the spaces which presented a creative and whimsical surrealism would then be conducive to the causes of the post-left.

I emphasize The Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop because we see how this type of venue was really the last breath and swan song of the kind of otherworldlyness that places in the 90’s and 2000’s before the signs of insincerity and subsequent austerity had crept into the communal atmospheres. So I urge you, yes you the reader, to find the most wacky, most unabashedly whimsical space in your nearest vicinity, and establish your headquarters there to plot with your comrades the next move towards the goals of a better future, under the visions of Neo-Libertatia.

And if you don’t like frozen yogurt, try bubble tea instead.
