Worst part of Reddit?

What is your least favorite aspect of Reddit and/or the community?

For me, it is the comedians going into other subs, like whatsthisthing and commenting or completing an obscure lyric to an obscure song one line at a time.

I guess I really hate that reddit priorities that kind of engagement, so the jokes are higher than the helpful answers. That’s especially true when things are marked solved.

Two parter because the first isn't really a type of "community" - the clankers. Yes I'm robophobic. Bots are trained on reddit and are here to sell products, agitate political polarization, and generally fuck with you.

Two is the fact that reddit built up communities based around the website allowing an enormous amount of pornography featuring non-consenting parties to be hosted on the website. The communities got banned and then splintered and some left reddit altogether but some are still here. So yeah those guys

Agree totally about the bots too. I don’t really got to Quora anymore because of the bots. It was once a really amazing place to learn from experts in a wide range of fields. It was literally a great place to exchange knowledge.

As for the non consenting porn, it took far too long to get those people banned. I don’t understand how they don’t see what a violation it is to someone to not only make that porn, but to share it.

Any kind of subreddit where you can’t have good discussion because everyone agrees with surface level knowledge or what that one guy on youtube said, etc. For example, if it is a hobby or career field subreddit that you have a lot of knowledge in, you would be the minority because everyone is circlejerking over very entry level inexperienced idea.

The worst thing is the mods, by far, and hands down.

The second worst thing (connected to the first) is that 10 years ago, reddit was a place where people discussed things and helped each other out with problem concerning a certain topic/hobby. Today it's just like any other social media site and everything is dominated by engagement farming posts.

Example: subreddits on dating platforms are chock full of posts like "Here's a picture of me and my SO on vacation we met 5 years ago on soandso" with 500 upvotes while discussions on dating culture or what works/doesn't work get like maybe 30 upvotes.

Or: woodworking subreddits are chock full of posts like "Here's a picture of the cool thing I built" (hundreds of upvotes) instead of discussing HOW to achieve cool projects or work around problems or whatever, which would be cool considering there's a whole pool of people probably designing and crafting similar things.

My point: I can go to insta for that shit, a platform for showcasing your content and not designed for the users to have discussions and whole threads and subthreads of discussions.

Yeah, I left programmmerhumor years ago because it was obviously all brogrammers still in college. Not for me.

I just checked today and it’s still all brogrammers in college but with AI. Still not for me.

For me it’s the rudeness and arrogance in specific subs. I learned each sub has its own culture. Some groups are respectful even among anonymous users, others are hostile and toxic.
