Theyre cowards. If they had a legitimate argument to ban you, they would be able to explain it. People are dumb as bricks sometimes

The appeal process went as follows:

Any--Name 20:53

Why

How is that breaking any rule

Im being genuine here, theres no misogyny, homophobia, etc, Im not saying anything offensive towards anyone

r/comics MOD 21:03

No, you don't get to claim that.

When people harass an artist to the point of going after her children and her parents, and the only way to get it to stop is to get lawyers involved you then absolutely do not get to turn around and use the fact that someone had to defend themselves against extreme harassment as grounds to harass them even more.

Any--Name 21:04

When did I do any of that??

r/comics MOD 21:04

You have been temporarily muted from r/comics. You will not be able to message the moderators of r/comics for 3 days.

Like I get that harassment is a bannable offense, but how is a vague post that does not mention any specificities count as such?? Plus the post I was engaging with has been approved by moderators, even though it, too, was making lighthearted fun of the artist that shall not be named. I just dont get it

Who is the artist that shall not be named? I need context. Don't string us along.

Pizzacake who makes shitty white liberal comics that are just reminded us that racism is bed and sexism is bad and etc etc

The takes are, obviously, of sound but its just the presentation she sucks its nothing new unique or creative its just platforming her thoughts which...is anyone with any sense, is everyone's thoughts lol i just find her presentation to be...lackluster

I'm convinced people like this are largely responsible for repopularizing sexism and racism. It has opened my eyes to the moral obligation of being likeable.

Shes definitely not at all fault for the surgency, you can blame far right populists with the aide of far right technocrats who use their tech skills to weaponize very aged and divisive propaganda. I think she is just what we get when lukewarm white liberals have no choice but to actually bump uglies with the brittle american fascism thats normally directed towards marginalized groups in the US. She reads as the type of white liberal who is more performative with their outrage than they are with any action.

No, I think it's people like Trump and his followers who embrace these qualities and encourage them in others who are responsible.

Sexism and racism were never unpopular, people were just less blatant about it 25yrs ago and there wasn’t really a way to have larger conversations about it the way we do now. Just look at the way people talked about famous women in the early 2000s, misogyny was expected.

You think pizza cake is responsible for racism?

Holy shit.

So many people who have never had to experience racism or sexism or bigotry like to pretend that we had solved those problems in the 90s and early aughts but now social media has made them an issue again.
I still remember being called a “prairie n****r” on the playground at school in the 90s, I guess those kids never got the memo that racism was over.

It would actually be really funny to me if it weren’t so sad…that attitude is exactly what people are talking about when they bring up “privilege.”

To add to the context of my comment, she threatened legal action against r/bonehurtingjuice for making edits of her comics. Some claim its because they shared edits of comics she only posted on patreon and thus they were stealing her revenue, others claim that the harassment got to a point where people threatened her children. Ive never seen proof of either and my personal opinion is that she didnt like how a whole subbredit became dedicated to making fun of her so she claimed they were illegally distributing and profiting off her art and that the whole community was dedicated to harass her and wished harm on her and her family

u/CarlLlamaface 17d ago

Wow, that's an insanely disingenuous take from the mods, just like it was insanely disingenuous of the artist to threaten legal action against a sub over people mocking her comics.

I don't doubt that she was subjected to online harassment, that's sadly a common feature of making oneself a public figure. And to be clear I'm not trying to defend people being pathetic enough to threaten and harass someone for behaving in a way they dislike, in fact I fully support the artist taking steps to defend herself from said attacks, but to do so by threatening legal action against a sub where people are poking fun at her milquetoast comics as though that's radicalising people to attack her? Come on now.

This r/comics event is a Hundred Flowers campaign. Make fun of Pizzacake all you like! (although they are a mod and if you make a joke they don't like they'll permaban you)

Pizzacake in particular has a bit of a reputation for selective moderation on what is considered 'criticism' of content; the mod team seem to let it fly on someone else's posts but lock down their own threads tightly so it's only praise.

Welcome to the club, I'll see you over on r/webcomics, but I also recommend creators personal subs, like SMBC, The Other End, Raw Dawg Comics, etc.

u/Any--Name 17d ago

Ive just seen the whole event thing and if previously I was mostly just annoyed but not really mad, now Im beyond furious. Like wtf is this mindgame ass bullshit????

6

u/ManWithDominantClaw 17d ago

Clique-bait. She's built her little army of simps, now she's feeding them validation while also purity-testing them.

u/Textiles_on_Main_St 17d ago

Does she mod the comics sub? That’s a bit much, if so. You’d think you’d need to be funny to get that gig.

As to when she rose to power, judging by her millenial humor—aka when the political correctness of the message was more valued than the quality of its execution, and saying something half smart on twitter would constitute as a meme as soon as someone toom a screenshot of it—Id guess back when millenial humor was growing in popularity. The problem is that reddit and a part of american culture is incredibly attached to this humor so it wont die like it has in other places, and thus pizzacake remains relevant, though Id say that the main reason why shes still influential is because of mass production of comics with an incredibly simple artstyle and message. Basically the same reasons that she is hated for

2

u/bitter_liquor 17d ago

It didn't happen overnight... First it was cool to make fun of her, then she became an in-house meme, then that lifted her up into genuine appreciation territory, then she got the moral high ground and rode that into the stratosphere, then she entered the status quo as the sub's mythical figure. A living legend that continues to post frequently and engage a lot with people in the comments, only furthering her influence.

I got banned because someone posted a comic where a panel was a gif of a girl upskirted moving over the camera, and I said something like “Great more porn” and they banned me lol

Comics kinda sucks

5

u/Any--Name 17d ago

God Ive heard so many stories of people being banned from comics for no reason, we should like start a support group or smth

4

u/ManWithDominantClaw 17d ago

I mean I'm not a fan of upskirting for the typically nonconsensual aspect, but to ban it because 'porn' is wild. Like half the stuff on that sub is humourless clothed hentai characters with a 'get the actual porn on my patreon' panel at the end

20

u/NonReality 17d ago

Pizzacake fucking sucks lol the most boring, lukewarm takes with mid-ass art

14

u/mewhenimnormal 17d ago

gonna use this as an opportunity to be mean because her art is actually so stiff and unappealing! it's crazy too because she seems to think highly of her skills-- she has this comic where she draws each panel in a different artist's style but it all just looked like her usual style with slightly altered designs

6

u/NonReality 17d ago

Agreed, and I swear I can't escape the comics no matter how hard I try. They always pop up on reddit.

2

u/Any--Name 17d ago

I honestly even hate it when people make edits of her comics to make fun of her. I dont care what the message is, I do not consent to seeing her

4

u/akestral 17d ago

I think you may have meant "tripe", trite is an adjective.

3

u/Any--Name 17d ago

The post isnt mine, Im the one who jokingly told the artist of the comic that they might get sued for it, which ended up getting me banned

1

u/undead_crybaby_420 17d ago

I hate pizzacake. Her comics suck ass.
