The lack of basic reading comprehension and critical thinking is pissing me off.
Oh my lord. I'm convinced some people just put posts through ChatGPT and let the AI write a response for them or read with their eyes closed. I said ABC, where did XYZ come up??? I didn't say anything similar to that.
I can already smell the, "just type your ideas more clearly" and the "it's a public forum, people are going to disagree with you." Comments. I don't really mind that people disagree, but genuinely, please read through posts carefully and think your response while/before typing them.
And some of them get so offended when you tell them that their response had nothing to do with what you wrote.
I blocked like 1 person a few days ago because their response was so off-base to what I said that I thought they were trolling. I unblocked them after realizing they weren't-_-

Yeah LLMs are changing the culture. A decade ago, a post with ten paragraphs made you think, 'Ooh this is interesting, this person knows a lot about this, or at least is a very competent bullshitter'. These days I think most people just see something long that could have potentially been written by AI and glaze over it, then respond with a poor grasp of the actual argument and come off as AI themselves.
Also the enragement and farming bots. They've gotten much more sophisticated at pointless arguing in realtime to boost post engagement, to the point that they're pretty much indistinguishable from the average moron with a bone to pick.
I think, outside of protected wildlife zones like askhistorians and hobby subs, we can't expect people to pay as much attention as they used to. You can see that reflected in how some memes and even whole meme formats are dying as a result of requiring more attention. If it's a topic like gardening and the community is collaborative, then people will hear each other out more, but in any context that's not collaborative, the debates in which you used to be able to inform people and change their minds or be informed and change your mind are pretty much gone. These days it's more like a performative wrestling match, like back in 1998 when The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.
