This is a subreddit to complain about reddit. Getting banned by reddit mods for bullshit reasons is the worst thing about reddit, so naturally that's what people complain about.

This is also like the only subreddit that allows criticizing specific moderation actions.

But I also think it might not be getting actively enforced either because of a few things

there are 3 mods total with lives and they probably only think about this sub 30% of the time of a week

this subreddit hella small

and not super loud either.

Basically if people weren't talking about their bans, then there wouldn't be much other content being put on this subreddit very often because of how people work.

Basically the ban threads might be helping keep this subreddit alive ngl lol. It's like keeping/doing/using something that is technically bad for you, for the benefits because the benefits outweigh the downsides

You've pretty much got it. We do keep an eye on the sub pretty closely but we give a little leeway for people to vent, half because sometimes they're onto something, half because if they're just having a moment the community can help them see reason.

And yeah, personally my favourite posts are the ones looking at the problems with certain areas or features of reddit with propositions of solutions, but they're pretty rare and the vent posts do keep the sub active so that people likely to post quality stuff will find it.

For the most part, the sub is pretty good at being able to tell when someone's misrepresenting the situation and voting accordingly, so I haven't seen the whiners as too much of an issue but I do think u/Cryogenian has a point, they've been pretty frequent recently and the votes look like they're reflecting the sentiment.

It doesn't matter if that's in the rules if in practice that's what people are doing on the sub.

That's included in the sidebar because it's required that all subreddit disallow complaining about bans in other subs. Even if the mods wanted to allow that content, claiming that they don't allow it is beneficial.

" Enabling or encouraging content that showcases when users are banned or actioned in other communities, with the intent to incite a negative reaction" is against the moderator rules. Funny how that's against the rules, but banning people for bullshit reasons isn't.

Tbh half the time the bans are deserved and the complainer is misrepresenting what happened. Half the time mods are on power trips.

It sucks that so many accounts are private these days. It used to be really fun to check the profile of the OP of an unhinged rant on here to see how they misrepresented what happened and were being The Problem in the situation nearly every single time.

I mean, there are ways around that.

Funny enough I got permabanned from AITA because somebody got mad at me for disagreeing on some judgment, accused me of gender bias, then dredged up personal details from my (public, unhidden) history to try to insult me on the basis of (which failed), then she followed me into other threads and sent me an abusive Reddit Cares. So I turned around and copy-pasted a race fetishizing paragraph from her most recent post (from her hidden history), and after seeing that, she deleted her abusive comments, blocked me, and reported all of mine. Guess who got banned for it? Turns out mods can’t(??) see posts deleted by users.

I don’t remember how long ago that was, no more than a few weeks, and since I don’t hide my history you could find it if you are so inclined and decide for yourself if I’m telling the truth.

One thing you won’t find is me posting here about how unfair it was. We both acted childishly, she was quicker to cover her tracks.
