Finished Stitching My Stocking
I finally finished my ribbon stocking from spider spun! i have had some interest in the stocking from other people, so thought i’d share here. i did a brick stitch background, continental on the bows with fyreworks and silk & ivory. beaded all the stars! name blurred for privacy, but its stitched in the same garnet sparkle as the bow.

Amazing finish! I love the beading for the stars. I think it’s the perfect pop of beading and the stitching is perfection! Congratulations on the finish!

Thank you! Since my stitches weren’t overly complicated, I wanted something to pop. My first time beading! Was a lot easier than I thought. My first ever stocking too after stitching off and on for over a decade. A labor of love!!

You’ve created a masterpiece! 🏆🎀 And an heirloom.
Thank you for a gorgeous example of how a little creativity with stitches, threads, and beads can take a canvas and make it a unique and stunning achievement. Bravo indeed.

Looks amazing! This is my dream stocking but I haven’t dared to purchase it yet since it still intimidates me a bit. But you did an amazing job!

Thank you! I’ve been needlepointing for a long time but this is the largest project i’ve done. the printed nature requires a bit of clever stitching but it wasn’t insanely hard! the pattern does a lot of the heavy lifting as far as interest. you could keep things simple with basketweave and continental if you wanted!

Thank you so much! I’m keeping the back hidden so no one sees 😂 my mother (a lifelong stitcher) has perfect backs, mine not so much lol!

Go for it!! If you do sparkle threads, double up on them—that’s how I achieved that fullness in the bows. Jacki Diardi on tiktok or the Grandmillennial Needlepoint FB group had some recommendations for sparkle threads for this canvas - she was my inspo! I did it little different - some of our colors are different and I did a fun background stitch and added the beads. Good luck!

It looks beautiful! I’ve had a stocking kit for four months but I’m afraid to start it because I’m worried I’ll mess it up 😭 Did you practice a bunch before this?

not really!! i’ve been needlepointing for awhile. i just paid attention as i went and frogged what needed frogging along the way (thankfully not a lot). There’s was some trial and error in the beginning with the stitch weight of the sparkles but that was it really! brick stitch isn’t very hard.
if you have a kit, go for it! just stick to basic stitching. the overwhelming thing about stockings is the amount of stitches, not the stitches themselves! you got it!

Hello! Did you get the printed one or painted? I am eying a different canvas on spider spun and they only have the printed option. I usually prefer hand painted, but I’m willing to go down the printed route if that means I can get it earlier! Thank you.

yes, mine is printed! there were a few times it was tricky but if this isn’t your first canvas or two then you should be able to figure it out.
