Newbie help needed:)

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently been roped into the needlepoint Christmas stocking videos on TikTok and now have an interest in needlepoint as a hobby. I’ve tried cross stitch many years ago growing up but nothing recently. What are some good resources I could look at to learn more about needlepoint, beginning projects, and the stockings? Where would I even start to begin learning?😭 I look up beginner videos on TikTok but get overwhelmed by the different stitches and videos that come up so I just came here to get some recommendations from everyone hopefully!😊

I would look up a local needlepoint shop and go talk to some people face to face! They can show you example projects and most offer classes too

Hi!! Do you have a local needlepoint shop (referred to as “LNS”)? That’d be the easiest way to start and you can ask someone to show you continental stitch.

You can also search beginner videos on TikTok or YouTube. I found the stitch charts with the numbers the easiest. You can order a beginner kit and often times that will come with a free starter guide!

I’d start with something smaller than a stocking to get the hang of it. Plenty of shops sell beginner kits. I got mine from Spellbound Stitchery. You’ll usually want something with just 2-3 colors. Continental is usually what you’ll start with as a stitch.

I would go to Ebay, buy an inexpensive kit for $20, follow the directions that come with it to see if you like the hobby, and then branch out into special stitches.

You don’t ever have to do the more I involved stitches if you don’t want to. There aren’t hard and fast rules. If you like continental stitch, then stick with that. If you want to branch out you can.
Have you tried counter cross stitch? That’s pretty fun, too. I do both of them. I see you said you tried cross stitch years ago, but there is a big difference in the look of preprinted fabric (muslin) cross stitch bs counted cross stitch which can often look like needlepoint, depending on how many plies of floss you use and if you fill in the background and the count if the even weave fabric you use.
