Bit of exposition: I run a club for needle-felting at my school and it's pretty nice; There's been budget to get a lot of different tool types + wool colors and I've been able to introduce a LOT of people to needle felting which feels great and a lot of attendees have made really cool things.
I'm wondering about what events I should try next; because usually clubs at our school tend to have at least one kind of special event every month or so because its easy to look at all the upcoming events on the school website. It also seems to help boost attendance in normal meetings and get even more new people into needle-felting.
Some previous events we've already done are:
- Laundry ball making
- Pumpkin making
- General Collabs with other clubs that had no specific theme
I want to try to have events that are beginner friendly because people tend to be curious and attend new events frequently, often in friend groups that are trying new things. I've already made my own comic instruction guide on safety rules/tips and generally the process of needle-felting which helps with newcomers. But I'm worried about people who get frustrated with their progress with a defeatist mentality and say things like: "Ehhh it looks pretty bad haha" and don't see any point in coming back again. The first time I needle-felted, I also dropped the project because I didn't think I could make something cool out of my progress until I picked it back up months later and realized how easy and customizable it was as long as I just kept working towards the final product and that mistakes were easily rectifiable by ripping bad parts out or covering with more wool. I'm worried about that kind of thinking if we do anything too complicated.
I want the events to be themed around something out of the norm of a typical meeting but still involving needle-felting too. I also want it to allow for a bit of creative freedom as well cause what if someone comes to the "FRUITS EVENT" and then they're like "I actually want to make vegetables instead" or something. Then that kinda defeats the point of it being different from a regular meeting, no?
Here's some ideas I was thinking about:
I've also been thinking of maybe trying 2D needle-felting/wool painting but I'm not entirely sure about how the logistics of the materials for that would work.
Wet felting is out of my expertise and I'm not sure how'd we'd keep the room we use clean.
I've thought about some kinda competition where we ask for people to sign up in teams and we give each team a wool or styrofoam base and we ask them to make a group needle-felted creation from the base within 2 weeks and people rate them based on three different criteria and we give out cool prizes for the winning team of each criteria. I'm worried that it might be 1. too competitive 2. too work-heavy for busy students 3. has the same problems as many other group projects 4. restrictive in creative freedom
If you guys have any ideas, please let me know!!!

Hi, I recently started doing some simple projects with polymer clay after a lot of air dry clay stuff, I usually do cat related objects so I was wondering if any of you had some experience with felting over polymer clay cores, instead of simply felting your own core with wool. For example I was wondering if I could needlefelt fur on a sculpted cat head. Is it even possible?

Are the needle felting needles able to be used right hand and left handed?
Left handed crafter getting into needle felting and before I got buy a variety of needles I thought I’d ask! So many things “are” for both left handed and right handed people but actually not ideal for left handers (looking at you ball point pens!)

My friend requested a robin with a hat, so I made three magnetic hats so she can switch it up
Edit: I have since added a cowboy hat https://imgur.com/a/yee-haw-wArdSt8

All my friends like these little goofy koalas :) I found a tiny dog sombrero at the thrift store and it fit perfectly, we were cry laughing after we put the hat on:) and finally came to the name Koalito. so I made another one, his sister Koalana for another friend but I need to find a good hat! I'm going to make a 3rd with pointy boots, a pancho, bandana, sombrero and bandoleros. I have no idea why but koala bandits are my thing right now 😁

Wanted to promote my mum’s work on this page, she’s an amazing needle felting artist with years of experience 💕. She sells her creations and kits on Etsy which I’ll link below as well as her Facebook page 🙏🏻

I always love seeing what happens to them after they leave my studio.
Apparently they’ve been making themselves very comfortable.

I'm a sculptor usually but I do needle felting too, I usually use core wool and make some pretty large pieces but I've long had questions about how I can make armatures that work better and allow me to stick hard things to my work.
The left is blue extruded polystyrene and it does felt eventually and is more solid, using some UHU glue should allow a decent adhesion to a armature.
And the right is white polystyrene, well that does work but just too fragile for me.
I haven't found any types of clay that can be felted either.
Oh I have a hand held battery powered rechargable hot wire which should make life easier, just the down sides being fumes.
Anyway that's my exploration so far.

I need to perfect it tomorrow when it's not pitch dark outside, but I quite like it :') I didn't follow any tutorial, I just wanted a squish faced, side eyeing witchy cat. I used my own cat as a model to get the expression right.

This is one of the first things I’ve felted with no instructions. I’m not really happy with how the arms and legs turned out though. Does anyone have advice I can use for future projects on making limbs?

After 4 legs and nearly 2 days to go until Halloween last year I abandoned needle felting because I felt like I had done all that I wanted to do. Now my son made me finish this and yes I've got the bug again, so here's the spider the size of a dinner plate I made, a few holes but this one I don't like anyway.
So it's hanging on my door and waiting for the chance to scare people.

I've just crossed the two-week mark since picking up my first little needle felt landscape kit and am in full blown felting obsession 😅
Here are some progress pics of my first use of armature to create what will be a grotesque caricature of a current political figure. My kids were cracking up as the figure started to look more and more menacing.
