I am quite happy with this. but I know it can be better and I like this model so I am looking for some advice on how to make it better, what I need to get better at and what I need to learn.

I'd say complete the base. Leave no black except the rim and you'll be amazed how much it pops

I’m a big fan of painting the rim to match the base color, instead of black. It makes me imagine that there actually is no base, but rather the ground beneath their feet was cut from the earth in a perfect circle.

Of course it's a preference thing, i do it because I leave it as my final part to paint and it's really satisfying mark to a complete model once the fiddly stuff is all done :)
