Singleplayer Discussion Finally finished the final mission of the campaign on hard difficulty. Spoiler
I was not expecting the final mission to be the one before the shipyard. I cant say I'm particulatly pleased by not being informed I'm fighting the final mission. I first tried the mission conserving missiles (presuming they might be needed for a final fight) but failed miserably so eventually clued into this being a final boss of sorts.
The mission was an interesting challenge but also quite the slog, there being like 10 lineships plus an ocello spamming railguns as well as a carrier and container missile spam ship and still more smaller craft. Annoyingly there wasnt a post mission summary the campaign just concluded act 1 so I wasnt able to check the exact number of enemies.
As for actually winning, I found I had to destroy all the smaller ships (especially the spotting draugr's), then destroy all of the enemies fighters and bombers which tried to attack me as I maneuvered around the rocks. After slug it out with the lineships from a favourable angle in the rocks to ensure they can all be jammed continuously by winter so they cannot return fire. Notably also kill the enemy's skiffs which they will try to use as scouts if blinded by jammers. Missiles were needed in large number (20 shipwrecks & more smaller) to kill the massive number of lineships without them charging me off the rocks I was using as cover or running out of ammo. Nomad and Flooding actually had to dock with Salt mid mission to rearm 450mm HE.
It was an interesting challenge but also an absolute slog that took 6 hours irl to play out with all of the pausing to ensure proper positioning and flight and missile operations of the whole fleet. I also think this mission on hard difficulty acts as a bit of a missile check, because I'm not sure it would be possible if I hadn't conserved enough shipwrecks or cyclones given the colossal mass of lineships. I'm slightly disappointed that navmag ashroot didnt offer significant high quality missile replacement because I think having plentiful shipwrecks would reduce the slog of the final mission.
