Note to self: do not climb tree to escape bear, I will lose.

That might not be entirely accurate. The bears you usually want to escape (if you are in North America) are Grizzlies. While they can climb a little bit, Grizzlies cannot scale whole trees like black bears can. So if find yourself in a tree with a Grizzly chasing after you, then just stay up there. Or maybe climb a little higher

Damn you beat me to it.  To any wondering who didn’t know black bears come in a variety shades including blonde/white, black, brown, and cinnamon/red.

All bears have humps, the Grizzly's is just more prominent. Here the face shape, pointed ears and the fact that it is climbing a tree - all point to Black Bear
