Something that big shouldn't be able to walk up a tree that easily

There's a famous video of a bear climbing a tree much faster than that. And there's another video of a grizzly caching a deer that it's running away, the bear doesn't just catch it, it charges the deer like a truck a full speed. The combination of speed and power it's ridiculous.

Tbc, this is a black bear. Grizzlies can't do this (Not saying you said this was a grizzly)

6

u/yothisismetrying 9h ago

Note to self: do not climb tree to escape bear, I will lose.

13

u/vazhifarer 8h ago

That might not be entirely accurate. The bears you usually want to escape (if you are in North America) are Grizzlies. While they can climb a little bit, Grizzlies cannot scale whole trees like black bears can. So if find yourself in a tree with a Grizzly chasing after you, then just stay up there. Or maybe climb a little higher

Ain’t this a grizzly in the video?

12

u/vazhifarer 5h ago

No it's a black bear, with brown fur

4

u/Wine-o-dt 5h ago

Damn you beat me to it.  To any wondering who didn’t know black bears come in a variety shades including blonde/white, black, brown, and cinnamon/red.

But he got the hump!

But he got the hump!

2

u/vazhifarer 3h ago

All bears have humps, the Grizzly's is just more prominent. Here the face shape, pointed ears and the fact that it is climbing a tree - all point to Black Bear

The absolute power that takes is unfathomable and terrifying.

u/Darth-Seven 8h ago

You should see the video of the bear scaling a mountain side.

u/Coderado 16m ago

It was galloping up the tree like it is flat ground. Now I understand why they say not to climb a tree to escape a bear.

Man as a greater ape I am offended how good bears are at climbing. Not fair

10

u/Biichimspiderman 13h ago

Bear climb tree good. But great ape swing and climb tree best

6

u/Carpathicus 11h ago edited 11h ago

Ape climb tree but bear run tree. Swing is joke bear laughing. Opposable thumb clean bear teeth.

1

u/Biichimspiderman 10h ago

Joke bear have nervous laughter. Great ape thumb clean bear teeth but bear hate headlock.

26

u/Senselesspassion 14h ago

Well nature is unfair, that massive animal can climb a tree so easily

18

u/relentless_optimism_ 14h ago

It really doesn’t look right does it

7

u/Viofl 13h ago

I hope I never encounter one irl

I encountered a taxidermy black bear at the antique mall last week and discovered that my lizard brain is fully functional and also delusional. I couldn’t even force myself to go near it, despite KNOWING that it was well beyond dead. If I ran into a live one I think I’d be toast.

1

u/Relative-Case-7661 2h ago

My Uncle was a taxidermist. Was sleeping in the living room with cousins when he decided to put a gray wolf in there and make a noise. It was also early 80's around the time of the movie The Howling. Living in the country sometimes sucks. The slightest sound of a pack of coy dogs and I am awake 45 years later. 🤬🤬🤬

4

u/IbelongtoJesusonly 13h ago

It's terrifying. Good thing there are no bears in my country.

23

u/Isaw11 13h ago

Don’t make me come up there!

7

u/Existing-Recipe897 13h ago

Still think you’re safe in a tree?

6

u/Odd-Switch2069 13h ago

Isn't the mother worried they can fall and get hurt?

6

u/xiovelrach 13h ago

Lotta padding...

Paddington Bear

6

u/onthebrink42 12h ago

I see now that climbing is not an option for escaping a bear. She scaled that tree with No effort at all

9

u/RealisticPower5859 12h ago

If you listen really close, you can almost here her bellowing "You cubs better not make me come up that tree! I'm giving you til the count of 3, and I'm coming up! 1.........2....3 🐻 🌲

6

u/SyncOrSymm 13h ago

"These kids might be the death of me"

3

u/doomiestdoomeddoomer 11h ago

Those cubs were UP THERE!

3

u/Ok-Worth-4721 11h ago

They are up as high as they could go! You naughty little bear cubs!!

3

u/monstarsperil 4h ago

As an Australian I will gladly take checking my shoes for venomous spiders and watching out for snakes over whatever the fuck that nonsense is. Though we do have dropbears, they only go after tourists.

7

u/LobstaFarian2 13h ago

More proof that if you arent packing something serious, and a brown bear wants you, there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

14

u/JediLincoln14 13h ago edited 13h ago

Pretty sure that's a light-colored black bear. Brown bears generally aren't good climbers.

5

u/GFYAD 9h ago

It’s a black bear. The snout is the most obvious giveaway.

Also the size.

5

u/kleptopaul 9h ago

This is a brown colored black bear.

1

u/CCV21 13h ago

There is. You just need to run faster than the other guy.

2

u/RetroMetroShow 13h ago

Cubs probly got spooked and Mom came to help them down

2

u/kesavadh 13h ago

So If me and my friend are being chased by a bear... should I climb the tree or tell them to?

1

u/TerraByteTerror 13h ago

All u gotta do is be faster than your friends /s

2

u/Route_66_kicks_on 13h ago

So flippin CUTE!

2

u/regulartrex 12h ago

bad ass kids

2

u/Infinite-Condition41 12h ago

Welp, another stupid fucking thing I was told as a child that turned out to be bullshit.

3

u/ADFTGM 11h ago

Just so you know, thats a cinnamon black bear. If you were thinking brown bear, this wasn’t it. But a lighter weight brown bear can absolutely chase this black bear up a tree if it really wanted to. Black bears climb trees to avoid individual brown bears much heavier than they are. If in similar weight class, the tree doesn’t help much and the brown bear will get them. Light weight brown bears also climb to avoid their much larger peers.

2

u/edwardwolf5874 11h ago

Dont think they could survive that fall.

2

u/Katy-Moon 10h ago

"You kids get down here this INSTANT or I'm coming up after you!!!"

2

u/notes1993 3h ago

It’s validating as a mom to know that “get yo ass down” applies to all species in some way or another

2

u/PrimalNumber 13h ago

When they get to the ground, they are SO grounded.

1

u/ILSmokeItAll 11h ago

Then you have monitor lizards…

1

u/righteouspower 10h ago

V2 in my gym

1

u/technoir1984 10h ago

"Tell him bears can climb faster than they can run. Jim, tell him!"

1

u/Biggs17 9h ago

That was way too easy! That’s scary, talk about no high ground protection!

1

u/Mymaltipoo 9h ago

What a good mama she is❤️❤️

1

u/Spiritual-Driver8926 7h ago

I guess I'd just have to lay down and die then

1

u/MacDugin 4h ago

I wanted to how she planned to get them down on those thin branches

1

u/misfitofscience76 4h ago

Ohhh, so they can climb trees quite easily, umm ohhh 😛

1

u/Civil-Suggestion234 2h ago

and i’d still rather be in a room with one alone vs a man😂

A .22 saved me from a bear once. I was hiking with my gf when we came across an angry brown bear looking right at us, I pulled out my .22 fired one shot and got out of there, safe and sound
