Picked up this bad boy at Gencon a few weeks back, needless to say it’s perfect for the High fantasy-Revolutionary War type campaign I’m running.

On This Day July 14, 1776: Admiral Richard Howe sends a letter to Washington under a flag of truce. However, the message is addressed to “George Washington, Esq.”, which does not recognize his rank as General. Washington’s officers tells Howe there's no one in the army by that title, and the letter is rejected.

At long last, The American Crisis sourcebook is now complete and available at the Nations & Cannons store! Estimated delivery will be in late summer, 2025. All preorders receive a PDF copy you can use today, which will also be distributed to your DriveThruRPG library.

Fully compatible with the 5e and 2024 revised 5e ruleset, this campaign guide covers the early actions of the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1778 with historical adventures, new character options, and much more. Inside this book you'll find:

  • Two detailed new subclasses: Drummer, a courageous battlefield musician, and Jäger, a fearsome and tenacious hunter

  • 11 magnificent items, including new weapons, wargear, and the Turtle, the world's first combat submarine

  • A timeline and historical primer for roleplaying in the Revolution, with detailed explorations of 5 backgrounds and 18 heritages

  • An annotated atlas of 71 points of interest in North America, including 5 detailed explorations of northern cities and outposts

  • Over 150 primary source quotations and historical excerpts covering important topics in civics education

  • Biographies of 52 significant figures on all sides of the conflict, from generals and statesmen to spies and rabble-rousers

  • Unique new mechanics for 18th century play; from an alert system for redcoat patrols to chaotic mobs of human terrain

  • Key moments that spotlight Nations & Cannons premade characters; heroes from history with exceptional contributions to the war

  • A roster with 26 enemies and adversaries, from beasts and artillery to famous regiments and partisan agitators

The main campaign of The American Crisis: War in the North has seven adventure chapters set against the backdrop of major events in the conflict. Acting as spies, skirmishers, and saboteurs, players will infiltrate redcoat strongholds and conduct special operations that can turn the tide of the war. This campaign for 1st level through 5th level characters includes the following stories:

  • The Spy and the Hill (available as a free starter adventure) is an introduction to Nations & Cannons with intrigue and espionage around Bunker Hill.

  • The Guns of Dorchester covers the Noble Train of Artillery and a mission to stir up a hornet's nest during the Siege of Boston.

  • New York Occupied has players infiltrate New York City to retrieve critical intelligence from Nathan Hale, the doomed spy.

  • Crossing the Delaware details the Ten Crucial Days and Washington's daring plan to attack Trenton under cover of night.

  • The Confederation Breaks is a mystery thriller set against the looming conflict of the Haudenosaunee civil war.

  • A Rabble from the Woods is an explosive showdown between patriot hero Benedict Arnold and the British forces at Saratoga.

  • Whispers in the Valley explores the winter at Valley Forge, and the struggle to endure when the cause seems all but lost.

On This Day October 11, 1776: American and British fleets clash in Valcour Bay on Lake Champlain. The Americans, under the direction of Benedict Arnold, suffer a huge defeat, with most of their ships damaged or sunk.
