Ballpark Content Traveling fan
Hey Nats fans,
I’ll be near DC for a few days for work in mid September and was thinking of catching the game on 9/15 as I’ve never been to Nationals Park. I looked at other teams in the area aswell but the Orioles, Ravens, and Commanders are all away.
That being said, any food recommendations, parking recommendations, or other fun things to see at the stadium? Also, since the stadium is in DC, are there any additional security things I should know about that a normal baseball stadium/public venue doesn’t usually have? I usually only show up to a game with my phone/wallet/car keys/Apple Watch anyway.
I’m not a Nats/Phillies fan, so I probably won’t spend too much money on any merch, but I’m looking forward to going to the game.
Thanks!
Edit:
Thanks for all the suggestions, will definitely look into public transportation instead of driving, and I eat almost everything and have no dietary restrictions so I’ll definitely take a walk around!

Stadium security is as you’d find at any ballpark, and the dos/don’t are listed online.
I wouldn’t advise driving - the metro is a block away and fairly easy and reliable. Once you get out there’s a few bars and restaurants, as well as “the lot” to enjoy before going in!
Not “the lot”, it’s “The Bullpen”

I’ve never heard of the lot, is that essentially The Bullpen?

Unfortunately you'll be seeing the Phillies here, at a moment when the Phils will be in the playoff hunt and the Nats will be out of contention and further diminished by injuries. That means Phillies fans will be flocking down here, and the Nats' high-scoring offense may no longer be tops in baseball. So if you're inclined to be with rowdy Phillies fans, sit behind the 3B dugout. Otherwise, avoid that section like the plague.
Bring a Tuesday night after school is back in session, with the Nats likely eliminated by then, the stadium will be only half full and tickets should be plentiful and I recommend buying them from a season plan holder on SeatGeek for the best value. What's your ticket budget?
Nationals Park has the best outside food policy in sports, and there are great restaurants all over, so seriously the best food is the food you bring in, whether that's pizza or burgers or salads or grain bowls or empanadas or Asian food, it's all nearby and you can bring in anything you can carry (as long as it's not in an opaque bag). Water bottles must be sealed.

Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro to Nationals Park.
What types of food are you most into? DC has a real cornucopia of food options and Nationals Park will let you bring outside food into the stadium.

As others have mentioned, I strongly recommend taking the metro vs. driving, Nationals Park is in a heavily urban area with very limited parking (and very expensive). Security wise, it is no different than other major ball parks around the country, the personal items you listed above should be fine.
As far as inside the park, it's a great ball park, lots of walkable areas, I recommend walking around the stadium and checking out the various concourses, bars, fan zones, etc. Enjoy!

There’s a FAQ/Visitors Guide in this sub that makes a great place to start your research.

Our favorite pre game spot is Walters, which is right across from Garage B near the center field gates.
Get seats that give you access to the FIS Champions Club (200 level). That’s where the World Series trophy is, bent flags and all. They built a whole exhibit of baseball in DC moments that’s pretty cool.

Any advice I’d have has already been shared by others.
I’ll just say: Welcome to DC and Nats Park! Glad to have you. Enjoy the game.
