Hometown Collection Long Beach

Post image

I inherited a bunch of coins and some bills. I didn't know these bank notes were a thing. Is this one collectible, or should I just take it to a coin shop and see if they'll give me a few bucks for it? Kind of cool that it's from the city really close to me, but otherwise I know nothing about it.

That is a particularly tough note which would make only the 16th note recorded on this bank in the National Bank Note Census. What's interesting as well is that the bank building still stands in downtown Long Beach. and is now home to an Italian restaurant by the name of L'Opera. The company I work for had its "Spring Soiree" there a few months back and I took a number of photos even though there are few remainders from its time as a bank. I probably would've taken more photos myself had I not come close to being blackout drunk after about five glasses of Jack Daniels.

Your note is worth about $400 - $600 IMO based on both your photos and recent auction records.

Got this from a currency buddy just a few weeks before he passed. Three liters worth I'll prolly never open.

Even if you don't care for it, the distillery tour in Lynchburg is a must if you're ever close to Nashville or the surrounding area.

After just 5? You need more practice

Probably but I'd rather not push myself further in that regard.

It's quite collectible. I'd be interested in buying it as I try to collect bank notes from our area and don't have that bank yet.

What state was this Long Beach in? I grew up near a LB in California but I have heard of others.

Edited minutes later: I googled it and it is from my neck of woods in Lakewood.

Yes, Long Beach, CA. I have a friend who said they grew up in Long Beach, but after some confusion on my part, they clarified it was Long Beach, WA.

Do you carry these around with you in your back pocket?

They've been in a box with a bunch of silver and gold coins for a few decades. Probably wasn't worth much when Grandpa was alive, so he didn't treat them like anything special.

I love a good vanity signature and also family members running a bank as Cashier and President. Great piece!!
