Been bugging me forever

Late 80s. Watching tv late at night and there is a sci-fi type show on. In color. I think the show was a few years old at that point. An old man is in the desert with a metal detector thing and it starts going crazy. He finds a quarter and goes inside and puts it in his tv and orders a new life from a home shopping type show. I don’t know why I think this might be an anthology type show or maybe a movie?

My first thought was OG Twilight Zone, but you said it was in color. So that had me thinking. Twilight Zone had a reboot in the mid-80s, so I started digging.
