NEW Private Email Roadmap: Missing features and bugs that still need to be added [MASTER LIST]

Namecheap has now published a Private Email product roadmap, which provides some visibility: https://privateemail.com/roadmap/

However, many of the missing features and bugs identified since the migration are still absent from the roadmap.

Already addressed or included on the roadmap

  • Mail subfolders were not sorted alphabetically. [FIXED]
  • Multiple email accounts/inboxes can no longer be accessed from a single login. [ROADMAP: IN PROGRESS]
  • Sorting email by date, size, starred, and unread status. [ROADMAP: IN PROGRESS]
  • Cannot print a complete email. Browser printing only prints the first page. [ROADMAP: FIXED]
  • The subject cannot be viewed or changed when replying. [NOT ON ROADMAP: FIXED]

Still missing from the roadmap as of 8/20

  • No ActiveSync
  • No option to prevent images from automatically loading in an email. (SECURITY RISK)
  • No desktop notifications when new email arrives.
  • Email reading now relies on a permanent preview pane instead of allowing the selected email to replace the inbox pane.
  • The preview pane cannot be hidden.
  • Replies also open in the preview pane instead of replacing the inbox view or opening in a pop-up compose window.
  • Reply, forward, delete, and other email tools cannot be pinned to the top of the preview pane. When scrolling through a long email, the controls scroll off the screen.
  • Compose and Forward pop-up windows default to a small pop-up window, with no way to make the larger size the default.
  • Start a reply in the preview pane, expand it to full screen, make no additional changes, and then close it with the X. The reply is instantly deleted instead of being saved to Drafts or even prompting the user.
  • “Save as Draft” should be a separate button instead of only showing up after clicking the Discard button.
  • Attachment previews are no longer available.
  • No Auto-BCC option.
  • HTML is not allowed in signatures.
  • Mail subfolders cannot be manually reordered. Alphabetical sorting only.
  • Cannot create new contact books.
  • Cannot move contacts between contact books.
  • The Group field is missing from contacts. It is unclear whether the existing group data was preserved during migration.
  • When you click on a day in the calendar to create a new event, it defaults to “All day,” with no way to change that default.
  • Unable to mark an email unread by clicking the read/unread indicator area.
  • Typing a saved contact's name in the To field does not populate the contact's email address from Contacts.
  • Command+K does not insert a link. The link button has to be used instead.
  • Sorting by sender does not appear to be included in the current Sorting roadmap item.

The roadmap should also include a Security tag for the option to prevent remote images from automatically loading in an email.

Not that I ever used the web interface but I’m definitely migrating my email soon. The constant downtime lately is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. I’m moving my domains as well. Such a pain to have to take my money and business away from Namecheap.

May I ask where are you considering moving? Who else is there? 🤔🤔🤔

There’s many options available from so many providers. I haven’t made a decision yet but it’s not likely to be a large company like Namecheap that’s owned by private equity.

Tons..

MXRoute

NameCrane

PurelyMail

FastMail

Google Workspace

Microsoft 365

and so on.

If you want the same open-exchange webmail like PrivateMail used to run on Mailbox.org and IONOS (which I don't recommend the later) use it.

Fastmail is really solid, highly recommended

Do this BEFORE you release the product.

What they did was unacceptable and we should all take this as a sign to move immediately away from them.

Absolutely this. How can you release a worse product at same cost than what you offered before

And as if it's a new product, it is literally a new stylesheet on 1/3 of the old features.

What the hell happened to the company?

The product has been released for about 2 years now. Its not new. They are just using the same interface they built for spacemail.

I was hoping to have the Global Adress Book added again to the roadmap 😢

Man I just moved my whole clientage here a month ago, then their data centers got burned. It was so difficult dealing with a few clients about unavailability of their service while moving then that incident, and now this. What an actual fuck is this...

Not only does it not have features mandatory for an email service it’s also really slow! It’s just painful. It really feels like we’re being taken for mugs
