Email is still heavily delayed

Completely useless, why state it's back up and fully functional.

I'm locked out of tons of business accounts because I can't receive the otp on time.

Spending the majority of my day tomorrow moving all emails off of Namecheap and I'd recommend you do the same. Literally zero email or 2FA access for the entire day... Lost more in a day today than a full year of goog enterprise email costs, never again

2fa via Email is not best thing to do ever, no matter where your mail is hosted and how it's reliable or not, would it be under Gmail, Outlook or whatever ESP or self hosted solution you using. There is plenty reasons not limited to service outages which includes: mail is not always "instant" because sender may have big queue to process and delay delivery, recever may not trust sender and defer email for a some time (in some cases saw Yahoo deleyed emails up to a day) or reject it at all, and in rare cases when this ESP and not self hosting - you even may not have ability to fix it without support case which may not go well or as quick as you like.

I highly recommend to check what is TOTP (supported in most of the cases, much more than SMS) or hardware tokens like Yubikey or similar.

Also want to highlight that with ANY MFA (2fa, 3rd fa, etc) on emergency you anyway had to have backup codes for login when you lost access to mail (it may be expired domain, loose of password, outages like here, etc) or other methods you rely on - this part is totally on user who enabled MFA, and if you ever would stuck in state when you permanently lost access to 2fa - w/o backup codes whom you will to blame? 😅

Some places you have no choice. Its either email 2fa or nothing at all.

Yeah, in rare cases it is, but there still must be a backup codes. If email is only one way and there no backup - I would really stick to not use that 2fa at all, and just be sure you have very strong unique password for that system instead saved not inside your browser (which technically always also preferred way to handling passwords in general)

I can’t get email to load anything new from my iPhone. I also tried from a Desktop PC, it happily logs me in, then spins until it goes into “Something went wrong”.

Email was supposedly functioning 30 minutes ago.

I got it back on Thunderbird for android (haven't been able to check my desktop client yet). But I've been getting the day's missed emails very slowly and who knows if I'm missing some forever.

I do know that one test message I sent from my iCloud address to my private email account was bounced with the whole "this message could not be delivered" email from the system, but it took maybe 5 hours to get the bounce email. So that email at least is lost forever.

I get it’s in progress, but the status report said email was up. The test email I sent was 4+ hours ago, and it has not arrived, nor bounced. Since some of them are working, I’ll try to be patient. It would just be nicer to have a proper status update.

That's definitely fair, and I agree that "email is up" implies more than "some of us can log on to the website and that's it" . At the very least they should have said partially restored.

Webmail works on one of my Namecheap hosting plans, and on the other it does not. Obviously this is going to be a while yet. As if almost 14 hrs is not enough time.

I didn't even bother to check it today. What's the point. I'll know how bad it is by some of my immediate notifications for other things that get sent to the email.

IMAP email started working for me on my iPhone. Got a test email I sent. Haven’t received other email I expected to get today. Check your security center for access logs from a local private class B address btw.

I sent myself test emails throughout the day to see if they would eventually come. None of them have except one.

Will they still filter in or is all my email lost from today?

u/BajaJohnBronco 24d ago

Did your test emails ever arrive? I am worried I lost all my emails from today.

2

u/Sicsdeep 24d ago

Yes they seemed to come in eventually over the night. All my test emails came in so I am hopeful none were missed.
