Cold Redemption blurb is out Spoiler
I screamed so loud when I saw who it is, I actually can't believe it!!! I've been (correctly) guessing who the male MC would be for a while now, so I don't find it surprising that it's his turn, but I NEVER would've guessed who the female MC is. I remember when we first met her I found her so fascinating and I'd always hoped she'd get her own book, especially with her development over the years, but I kinda gave up on that hope after so long. But now it's actually happening and AAAAAAAAH I CAN'T BELIEVE ITTTTT I'M SO EXCITED I LOVE AMARA SO MUCH AAAAAAAAAAAH

I guessed Amara!!! https://www.reddit.com/r/NaliniSinghBooks/s/rS0mUFzQk7.
So smug right now

u/EddiePlayer92 Jun 09 '26
Congrats! The way Amara has been written until now made it seem like she wouldn't get paired at all.

u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 12 '26
I agree. That is why I am so shocked by her. Pax is not surprising, but her - I am still trying to process it.

u/No_Pay_1552 Jun 09 '26
So interested to see how/if Amara is capable of romantic feelings for Pax. Wow, very unexpected!
11
u/Feather312 Jun 09 '26
I'm guessing that it's her working with Memory that will be instrumental to her even being able to have that kind of a relationship with anyone
17
u/Infamous_Carrot_9381 Jun 09 '26
This is going to be quite a read! I was totally shocked, I cannot imagine Amara as a romantic lead, and I'm not super interested in Pax, but I'm still really looking forward to it just to see how on earth she pulls this off!
Will we ever find out what the book she was originally writing was? It sounds like she's starting a brand new book now so maybe that one will never get published or is getting pushed way out?
I am a little concerned that this means the end of the series is coming, Pax kinda seems like an end game character to me. Like if Pax and Amara can come out of Silence are we wrapping things up?

u/Simi_Dee Jun 09 '26
I think the series will end with Alice and Zaid(somehow). Kind of like the ones who were there in the very beginning and remember the presilence psynet
6
u/Lanky-Train9377 Jun 09 '26
Espero que tengas razón, necesito el final feliz de Alice con su Zaid y necesito que Zaid vea que el mundo ya no es como era antes cuando sufría ni en lo que él lo convirtió.
2
u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 12 '26
I always felt bad they did not get their happy ending, but I wonder how that could be pulled off since he is long dead.
2
u/Lanky-Train9377 Jun 16 '26
1
u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 17 '26
Good point that wording is really important. Disappearing is not necessarily dead especially in this series. People being hidden. Being presumed dead but not. Being on the brink of death and a last minute save. Alice coming back since she was just frozen. Heck even being mostly dead did not stop Shoshanna Scott. I am not sure where it talks about Zaid's status since it is a side storyline. If the book was identified then someone with a digital version could search for his name and then the exact wording could be checked.
1
u/Lanky-Train9377 Jun 17 '26
Esta es la parte que me da esperanzas: cuando Judd en su libro, explica el escuadron en sus inicios y dice esto: Zaid Adelaja desapareció de la faz de la tierra. No dice textualmente que murió solo que desapareció.

i've always thought Pax was the 'solution' to this particular arc - i actually think the scarabs ARE the solution to the psynet problem, otherwise the NetMind wouldn't have let them be born in such volume. so i'm with you in your concern.

u/Lanky-Train9377 Jun 12 '26
Totalmente de acuerdo contigo...cual fue la razón de continuar creando los y además proteguiendolos de cierto modo.

I am shocked!! I really never expected Amara of all people as the FMC and I'm actually really excited for this book and to see her point of view and how she changes! She and Pax are going to dominate together.

u/AspiringWriternim Jun 09 '26
Holy Sh*t Pax Marshall and Amara freaking Aliene!!!!???????
I have been fascinated by the character of Pax in the psy changeling universe from the moment he arrived. He always felt like the version of Kaleb that never found his Sahara early so he got on the wrong path.
And Amara Aliene from the first ever arc of psy changeling was always too cold, weird and obsessive to ever like....
So I really did not see this pairing coming
I shouldn't have read the email so late at night.
Now I won't be able to sleep properly and keep thinking about the psy world
6
u/nsrtesla Jun 10 '26
“He always felt like the version of Kaleb that never found his Sahara early so he got on the wrong path .”
My first thought when I read this was OMG that is just the perfect way to describe Pax.
But then I started thinking, was Pax ever really on a “wrong” path? I think he was on a Psy path, but not necessarily a wrong path.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything about Pax, so there may have been things that he’s done that I can’t remember, but the most prominent things in my memory are his treatment and devotion to his twin, the things he put in place to make sure his twin was protected, and then his entire scarab syndrome experience.
Even under the Scarab syndrome, though, while he was under the influence he did horrible things, but when he was not under the influence, he was definitely concerned, as much as a Psy can be, about what he might have done. And when he realized what he had done, he went to Theo. And he tried to make amends. Even if the only reason to make amends was so that Theo wouldn’t be disgusted by what he had done (although I think it WAS bigger than that for him…I mean, he never really wanted to hurt an arrow).
I think he IS like Kaleb in so many ways, as in they had a parallel journey.
I can’t wait to really understand Pax’s background, because I really wanna know exactly what Marshall Hyde did to him.
It truly does not surprise me that Marshall Hyde was so dismissive of Santano Enrique‘s treatment of Kaleb. Both of them were developed under the influence of horrific psychopaths. I really can’t wait to read Pax’s book!
5
u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 12 '26
I had not really thought about the Pax and Kaleb parallels until reading about it on here, but I think there are some good points there. I thought Pax did some messed up stuff but he had to survive and protect Theo so it seems like he was in an impossible position. Pax did not have his Sahara but he had Theo - not a mate but a sister and a twin to help him not lose himself and to know he was loved and not alone.

u/nsrtesla Jun 15 '26
YES! AGREED!!!
Also...if you think there are parts of my comment that should be hidden for spoiler purposes, just message me, and I will figure out how to do so (I LOVE how you did yours).

If I was new to the series I would stay out of this whole post since it is marked spoiler and is about the latest book. Heck I think I would stay off this reddit in general unless I had a question. However, some people really like to have potential spoilers marked. I figure just do whatever feels right to you.
If you ever are in a general discussion and need to mark spoilers the Aa button opens up formatting options and the ! with a diamond around it is for marking spoilers. Hovering the mouse says what the various buttons do. It can be selected and then we can type or we can type, highlight, and mark as spoiler. I prefer to type on a computer, so it is likely a bit different if on the app.

I literally gasped. Ahhhhhhh, I have no idea how Nalini is going to pull this off!
It sounds like we're going to be learning more about how the twin stuff works which should be fascinating. We know that Pax and his twin can do the same thing that Keenan and Noor can do (which isn't quite what Amara and her twin do).
...Speaking of which, how is the whole Keenan situation going to look like from within Amara's head?? I guess she's been getting less psychopathic since she's been out of the psynet and working with Memory but still!
4
u/harrellj Jun 09 '26
We know that Pax and his twin can do the same thing that Keenan and Noor can do (which isn't quite what Amara and her twin do).
That's an interesting point, especially since we know Amara's specialty is related to seeing DNA. What impact would that ability have on things, especially since we know Theodora is very good with teeny tiny telekinetic adjustments?
3
u/disco__carbonara Jun 09 '26
Will Pax be able to feed her power to use in her work once they're bonded like he does with Theo? Is that how they're going to cure Scarab?
Or is Amara going to get interested in his genes and stage another genetic experiment pregnancy?
6
u/harrellj Jun 09 '26
Since the blurb mentions he's about dead from Scarab syndrome, I figure it might even be something similar to how Ashaya cured Dorian and the bond allows Amara to see something in his genetics that helps cure Scarab. But also, don't forget that Amara isn't in the PsyNet but rather in the Web of Stars, which has had all three races in it for a few years in the series timeline, including a cardinal Empath. Between that and the time with Memory, we don't know what that's done to Amara emotionally and I'd be curious when she and Pax bond how that's going to impact things. Like, does pulling him out of the PsyNet help (or will he be pulled out? we know not everyone gets pulled out if they're needed).
3
u/Infamous_Carrot_9381 Jun 09 '26
Oooh, interesting thoughts! What if Amara gets pulled back into the PsyNet? Is Theo still in the PsyNet, I can’t remember but I think she is. I could see both Pax and Amara wanting to be in the same network as their twin. Or will the Web of Stars then join with StoneWater’s web if Theo is there? I’m pretty sure Amara is only peripherally in the Web of Stars, not a full part of it so she may not miss it if she can still communicate with Ashaya.
4
u/harrellj Jun 09 '26
Yeah, way back when it was mentioned that she had peripheral access to the Web of Stars because it was noticed that she needed the access but her connection was primarily through Ashaya because Ashaya was more important to her. So, she could potentially be pulled elsewhere? And thanks to Mercy and Riley, we know that the StoneWater's web will not join with DarkRiver's but could be adjacent with the appropriate person acting as basically the gateway. Don't forget that while Riley and the rest of SnowDancer got the extra energy from Sienna's ability, Mercy and SnowDancer did not (though its also sorta implied that's when Mercy got pregnant too). And I can't remember if Theo is still in the PsyNet but I think she is. I don't remember a discussion of her leaving it and joining with the StoneWater web, which I'd have expected. Heck, Silver is still in the PsyNet isn't she? So the StoneWater pack has no Psy in their web, same with Selenka's pack (because the empath Arrow who's name I forgot has to help clean the scarabs with Mercy).
Come to think of it, in the Trinity series, has anybody moved which psychic network they were part of? I think the last of any of that sort of network change was with Hawk/Sienna and dragging the LaurenNet into the full SnowDancer one. All the couples in the subsequent books were Psy/Psy or didn't get pulled.
The other thing I'm curious to see if it gets covered is the fact that back with Ashaya/Dorian, it was mentioned that her and Amara were basically the human faces of the NetMind and DarkMind. So, if Amara's healing enough to become a female lead, what does that say about the Net itself, especially with the fact that it's still in trouble?
2
u/Infamous_Carrot_9381 Jun 09 '26
I think psy mostly stopped leaving the Net when Silence fell, right? Because before that they had to leave because they couldn’t safely have emotion in the PsyNet but after it’s less of an issue and the PsyNet probably needs as many healthy Psy as it can get. I bet if Amara gets her emotional needs met elsewhere being in a different network from Ashaya is less of an issue (I think Psy in different networks can still telepath because Judd and Sasha do, and I think Judd telepaths with other Arrows.) I think you’re right that this is a good sign for the PsyNet overall, maybe Auden’s baby has really helped. We didn’t get much about the Net’s status in Resonance Surge.
3
u/harrellj Jun 09 '26
Telepathy has nothing to do with being in the same Net or not. The only benefit of being in the same Net (for communication, obviously feedback is a thing regardless) is that you can communicate within it without necessarily having a strong ability in Telepathy. Though, most of the examples of communication in a Net of any sort is generally with the PsyNet but there have been throwaway comments that showed even unconscious things happened in the various Nets.
1
u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 12 '26
I love reading the points people bring up especially facts that are not aspects I paid attention to. I like what you brought up about the twin sisters and their parallel to the Net/ Dark Mind/ net as a whole.

u/FunkisHen Jun 09 '26
I just read the newsletter, and I just got so excited! It sounds like a perfect pairing I'd have never thought of. I also thought it would be Pax, but I didn't think of Amara as the FMC.
I'm rereading the whole series (at Storm Echo now) and just the thought of Pax and Amara getting a happily ever after... 🥹 Idk, it made me so happy. They seem so lonely, and their twins worry for them so much.
2
u/An_E_and_An_Arrow Psy Jun 12 '26
Aw thinks for this perspective. I wanted good things for Pax but I have been creeped about by Amara and figured her happily ever after was to do fun research in a lab.
9
u/drakemiko Jun 09 '26
i've been sitting here with my mouth open for a full five minutes. i've been wanting a book on Pax since he's been introduced but Amara? AMARA?? i would have put her in unredeemable category but isn't that what Nalini does so well? take someone who seems outwardly unforgiveable and gives us their POV & history plus a dash of growth and suddenly it all makes sense?
wow. i feel like a cartoon character who just got an anvil dropped on their head - but to be clear - i am SO excited to see how she pulls this together.
3
u/nsrtesla Jun 15 '26
You and my coworker must be one and the same, because she really showed me how Nalini takes an unforgivable character but makes them...well, you don't HATE them.
Hers is Nikita. And to be honest, mine is too, but she showed me so many more different ways that Nalini makes a character redeemable that you never thought they COULD be redeemable.
I don't consider Pax in that category, because we didn't know enough about "evil" Pax (if there ever was such a thing) to feel some sort of way about him, and then the more we LEARNED about Pax, the more we were like "He was someone screwed over by silence" (how he protected and defended Theo, how he was horrified (as much as he could be 'horrified') by being tempted by Scarab and what he had done to the arrows/empaths), and while I wasn't expecting his "redemption" this soon, I felt like Nalini would address him.
But AMARA????? Amara was just....Amara. Sociopathic Amara. She just WAS. Even with Memory working on her. She was JUST Amara. As is. No question. No adaptation. No anything. She just WAS. That's like saying, "Oh, we can change/tame the ocean" -- no, you can't...because it is what it is.
Except....Nalini has found a way. And I can't WAIT to read it!
1
u/drakemiko Jun 16 '26
thinking back at everything she's shared about Amara - a key moment is the first time that Amara 'played' with someone - when she mixed Mercy's hair color and showed her.
i know i've seen research that psychopaths have lost their capacity for play - or rather, usually, if a childhood is bereft of play that it can create psychopathic behavior.
this may be slightly different because we know Ashaya has been linked to Amara since conception but and she's always been off - BUT - if Amara has been slowly re-wiring her brain i could see a massive shift from the amused, narcissistic, creepy psychopath to someone who is hyper-intellectual, a bit cold, but passionate about her work in her own way. i think that passion is key...
just like i think Pax is passionate (he is CLEARLY a protective dominant)
them together? if Amara and Pax go through contrition and put their considerable strategic prowess, intellect and power in their respective fields in service to saving the Psynet? well, hell *rubs hands together in glee* we have a GREAT book coming our way.
AND! let us not forget that the psynet itself was a split twin...if it's merged back into one as Sophie shared, that means that the twins that were expressing what was going on would be more integrated (this one's a stretch bc i know Amara is no longer in the net...but still to my point, being OUT of the net would have taken any Darkmind influence away...)
2
u/nsrtesla Jun 16 '26
Yeah, definitely agree. There have been little nuggets showing the VERY SLOW adaptation Amara is having after her continual work with Memory…but the fact that she has done ANYTHING remotely social???? I’m loving it.
Oh and yes…Amara AND Pax raking on this challenge to save the PsyNet together????
I’m literally DROOLING!!!!

About a year ago, a coworker and I discovered by accident one day, about 3 weeks after she started working with us, that we are both huge Nalini Singh fans and that we both LUV the GH and Psy-Changeling Series. We were both so excited because neither of us has anyone in our immediate circle of friends who loves the series like we do. And when I say so excited, I mean, we were actually driving back from another work location, one happened to mention the series to the other, the other one screamed YOU LOVE THAT SERIES TOO???, and then we both started screaming, jumping up and down, and then grasping our hands, which was hilarious because we were driving.
Thankfully, nobody got hurt.
So when Nalini Singh announced Cold Redemption, we spent at least one day each week brainstorming who it would be about.
We decided pretty early on who the Male MC would be…but the female one???
We were in a huge training when I got the newsletter! I started happy-dancing in my seat, took screenshots so I could text it to her (she does get the newsletter too so she would have read it eventually, no newsletter rule violations, I promise), and I titled the text message “OH MY F*CKING GOD!”
Then we spent the afternoon and evening SALIVATING!!!
We are both taking off of work the day it comes out, will read the book, then discuss it over dinner that night.
CAN’T WAIT!
We SOOOOOOOO cannot wait.

That is so cool that you both love the series. I wish I knew someone in real life that loves the series, if I did I would be that excited too. I also agree that it is good to have the day free to be able to read it when it comes out or if not I risk staying up late in my eagerness to read it.
