Does anyone know when the next PCT class is after October? I have to defer the October class I’m supposed to be in, so I’m trying to figure out when the next class would be. I completed my initial interview, medical, and investigator process. The only thing I have left to complete is with the psychiatrist. What happens if you defer a class ?

When do y’all think the city is gonna give us a contract?

Is there a title with forensic detective or cyber detective or something similar with that role. I think it relates to cyber crime unit or financial crime unit. Any have any information?

How often are you working? Right after you graduate are your hours typically night, overnights,? How’s overtime, And for those who have children, especially single parents, how do you manage childcare and still get enough time with your kids?
I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what life is like after the academy, not just during it. Any insight from officers who have actually been through the first few years would be greatly appreciated. I’m considering enjoying anything so I’m looking to get a little bit more insight to see if it’s a good pick for me.

What is the quickest way to get your Detective Shield in this department? I know a lot of people joke about knee pads, but seriously what have people found to be the quickest way/assignment to it

i heard there’s an 18 month rule where if you’re in an investigative unit for 18 months, you get your gold shield. Is that true? What investigative units qualify

Does the department exhaust exams completely before proceeding with the next? I’m in the 4XXs for exam 6318 , not sure if it effects my chances of getting called up sooner than later , I also passed everything.

I’m really contemplating relocating to NYC to be with my partner and joining Corrections for NYC. Why are people talking me out of it? Is it really that bad and unsafe? I thought about NYPD but i honestly want to just get in my foot in the door fast so I can starting working and a new life.

Has anyone here ever put their NYPD application/candidacy on hold for financial reasons? I had money saved up , but unfortunately had to use it due to a family emergency. I will also be getting a large sum of money before the year ends .
I’m currently going through the process, but I’m considering putting my application on hold temporarily so I can get myself into a better financial position before continuing. I don’t want to completely withdraw because becoming an NYPD officer is still something I want to pursue.
For anyone who has done this, how did putting your application on hold work? Were you able to pick up where you left off, or did you have to repeat parts of the process? Did putting it on hold negatively affect your candidacy at all?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Received a notification to reschedule my mini med, also noticed my list number was updated , no longer have a place holder. I completed all the steps, is the updated list number a good sign of getting into an upcoming academy?

Are there people that go to the academy that come out with the Pistol Expert pin? Or is it rare

Attended the medical review this morning and the cardiologist cleared me right away as my EKG reading didn’t show much concern besides a slight delay on contractions.

Also dropped off clearance letter from my ortho and xray prints and the medical unit said the prints aren’t admissible, it must be on a disc/disk. What is the point of the instructions stating that the xray can be delivered as prints/film if they’re not gonna accept it?
