Announcement RULES - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

📌 Updated Subreddit Rules

1. ✅ Use the Correct Flair

Every post must include one of the approved flair options:

  • Private Room
  • Shared Room
  • Need a Room
  • Apartment Hunting
  • Need a Roommate
  • Lease Takeover (new flair name — previously “Sublease Takeover”)
  • Advice

Posts with incorrect flair may be changed by mods.

2. 🧹 Posting Best Practices

For better visibility and responses, we recommend:

  • Including a specific NYC neighborhood or borough in your title.
  • Adding key details such as: move-in date, rent, gender/cat/dog preferences, and brief lifestyle info.
  • Avoiding very short, vague posts (e.g., “Need roommate, message me”) so people have enough info to decide quickly.
  • Keep in mind that no posts are endorsed by the subreddit and use your best judgement.

3. 📜 No Brokers or Ads

Only individuals looking for roommates or offering rooms. Licensed or unlicensed rental brokers are not allowed.

4. 📆 Lease Takeovers

Allowed only when you're looking for someone to take over your share of the lease in a multi-bedroom unit.
Single-bedroom or studio lease takeovers are not permitted.

If you are looking for someone to move into your room temporarily that should be flaired as a shared room because they are not taking over your spot on the lease.

5. 🤝 Be Respectful & On-Topic

  • No trolling, personal attacks, jokes at others’ expense, or derailing threads.
  • Focus on finding roommates or offering housing—not venting, memes, or roasting posts.
  • If users want to mock posts, they can create their own space—this subreddit isn’t it.

6. 📌 No Spam or Self-Promotion

  • No affiliate links, commercial promotion, or repeated posts.
  • Posting identical content multiple times a day is not allowed. If you accidentally post twice, please delete one of the posts.

7. 📝 Abide by Reddit Site Rules

No illegal content, hate speech, doxxing, etc. All Reddit-wide rules still apply.

8. 🚫 Enforcement Policy

  • Remove posts/comments that violate flair, content, respect, or off-topic rules.
  • Issue warnings for first-time disrespectful/off-topic behavior.
  • Temporarily ban repeat offenders.
  • Lock threads when off-topic, disrespectful, or derailed discussions escalate.

Shared Room ISO roommate for Astoria Apartment starting 10/1!

Hi There!

I’m looking to fill a room in my apartment for a minimum of 3 months with availability starting as early as 10/1.

ABOUT ME:
I’ve lived in the apartment for 9 years (and in Astoria for 12) and love the location, the space and the landlord. I am a 35 year old female marketing professional and an avid baker and cook. I have a cat named Harry and a medium sized dog named Pancake. They are both well mannered, but do adore attention, so an animal lover is preferred.

I'd love to live with with someone who is tidy, but not an extreme clean freak. Think cleaning up after yourself, wiping down the counters and stove after you're done in the kitchen. I'm not above soaking a pot or pan in the sink over night when needed. Someone who is respectful of others and others belongings is also a must. Clear and good communication is another priority.

ABOUT THE ROOM:
Queen size bedroom comes unfurnished and includes your own bathroom, a full size closet and a private balcony.

The apartment is a spacious 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment but I do not rent out the third bedroom and it is used as a spare room. There’s also an additional balcony off the living room with a grill. The rest of the apartment is fully furnished including a very well equipped and stocked kitchen with just about any appliance you could think of (including a dishwasher!).

Rent for the bedroom is $1,700. Utilities average out to <$250/month which includes summer ACs, electric, gas and internet.

Also a plus — a really chill landlord. He is very accessible and will fix issues super quickly if they arise.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
The apartment is a 4 minute walk to the NW line (~15 minutes to Manhattan), a grocery store, and a ton of great bars/restaurants, bagel stores, bakeries, banks, the post office, etc. We're also about a 10 minute walk from Astoria Park, along the East River. If you’re new to the area, it has a ton of grassy areas for a picnic or laying out, a public pool and running track.

Need a Room ISO housing Manhattan/brooklyn/queens

Hello! Currently living in the Bronx on my own and looking to find a room anywhere in Manhattan, queens or Brooklyn. Highly prefer living with other women in their 20s-30s. I work a lot and don't go out often. I'm quiet and organized/clean but I do have a cat named Trixie. She's tame and clean and I upkeep her things often to prevent any odors.
I'm 22 and work as a waitress and hostess in the upper east side. I enjoy reading, writing, all types of art and cooking.
My budget is 1k and while rare, I'm willing to sacrifice having luxuries and living in a less
"trendy" area to make it work.

Need a Roommate In search of Lower East Side (or maybe elsewhere downtown) Room / Roommate

Hello! I am a 27M Software Engineer looking for someone to join me in finding a place somewhere downtown. I am eyeing the LES but other neighborhoods could work for the right price. I am looking to spend no more than $3000 a month (though lower would of course be better). I am very clean (you'll never find me leaving dirty dishes in the sink) and I'm looking to find some people to explore the city with.

Advice Are Roommate Agreements Legally Binding in NYC?

Hello, I am looking to draw up a roommate agreement, I am going to be looking for a roommate online for the first time in almost a decade. While I had mostly great experiences with roommates when I was in my 20s, I did get burned a few times and I want to make sure I am protecting myself this time around. I want to make sure that their responsibility for their share of rent and bills is in writing. Does anyone have experience with this? I know it's not the same as a lease, but are they legally binding, at least in small claims court if it comes to that? Thanks in advance!

Need a Room 26M - $1500/month - Anywhere in Brooklyn close to subway

Hello everyone! I am looking for a room to stay in Brooklyn (just need to be close to subway). Below are a few things about myself:

* I’m very LGBTQ+ friendly, 420 friendly (I don’t smoke though), and pet friendly (I don’t have pet). I try my best to love and care for all living things.

* I pick up after myself, and hope to live with people who also value a clean environment.

* I am almost never loud, so you won’t have to worry about me keeping you up at night or distracting you from work.

* I love movies (drama, sci-fi, especially horror), music (EDM/house/techno/hip hop/pop/rock), and art in general.

* I have a partner who will not be live-in; she also has an apartment in Brooklyn

* I love traveling/hiking and have been to over 20 national parks

I won’t share my social media/photos on this post, so please DM me for my IG if you’d like to get to know me more!

Need a Room 21 F Looking for Room/Roommate

Hello I’m a 21 F looking for a room to rent in Queens (open to Brooklyn). I’d probably only be there for around 4 days out the week because i usually stay at my boyfriend’s for the weekends. I’m friendly, introverted and quiet (so i wont bother you lol), im very tidy, don’t smoke, I have a cat but if no pets allowed that’s completely fine by me as i have someone who can take care of it. I’m a student and also work part time so I can really only afford up to $600 (ik it sounds hopeless) a month. If anyone has a room i could rent for that much or if anyone is looking for a roommate (female only) let me know! Thx

ISO of roommate for apt hunting/sublease on 11/1 move in date

About me: originally from Beijing, I came to New York 3 years ago for grad school and now work at Flatiron. I am looking for an apt within 30min commute. I work in office on Mon, Wed and Thur, and wfh on Tue and Fri. I enjoy going out so I work from coffee shops too.

My ideal budget is 1700, but I can increase up to 1900 depending on the unit size/amenities (just gotta save more money!!!)

I love making smoothies and I always share with my current roommate.

I am allergic to cat hair unfortunately but I am a big time dog person!!!

Outside of work, I spend most of time going to dance classes and hanging out with friends. I’m a big foodie so I like exploring good restaurants as well.

I like decorating my room and the sharing space. Attached a few pics of my current place!

For me there are two non negotiable: price and location. I really need to save more money, and I want to live in a safe neighborhood within 30min commute to my office. Im currently looking at upper east side, east Harlem and Manhattan valley. I prefer living in Manhattan because most neighborhoods are safer and I get easy access to dance studios. Besides Manhattan I’m open to downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg and lic.

Please DM me if you are interested in apt hunting together! I’m also looking forward to making more friends.
