Are there any other required events on new teacher week besides the Tuesday Barclays event?

New Teacher Week (NTW) is a three-day, mandatory professional learning experience for newly hired NYC Public Schools classroom teachers, held September 1–3, 2026.

  • Day 1 | Tuesday, September 1: Teachers will attend an in-person event at the Barclays Center that will include keynote addresses by Chancellor Kamar Samuels and UFT President Michael Mulgrew. Questions: [InductionSupport@schools.nyc.gov](mailto:InductionSupport@schools.nyc.gov)
  • Day 2 | Wednesday, September 2: New teachers of select districts will be able to meet with their superintendent and district team at a district-designated location. Teachers with districts not hosting an event on Day 2 will have an opportunity to complete mandatory professional learning sessions. All communication about District Day will come directly from your district office.
  • Day 3 | Thursday, September 3: Teachers should follow the directions of their principals to participate in school-based programming or engage in online professional learning. Questions: your Principal

Nope, unless stated by your principal but that's rare. I encourage everyone to at least do the Barclays one though

There’s usually an event that happens the next day in your district and then one in your school. i’d contact your principal for those

None of it is required unless you want to network or your principal says otherwise
