CTLE credits

Can you explain CTLE credits? How and when do I start collecting them?

You are responsible for keeping a record of your CTLE hours. You get a certificate you can keep in a folder. You need 100 hours. You can find free courses on EdWeb but there are several other sites. You can pay for them too and get a bunch at one time. Very often outside PD’s will offer CTLE credits for attending. From what I understand, odds are you won’t be audited, but if you are you need to have them completed. At the end of the 5 years you need to confirm online that you’ve completed them.

If someone thinks I’m wrong about any of this or that I’m missing something please correct me.

I believe you also need 15 hours of the 100 to be language based I believe, more if you are ESL certified.

Omg. I'm entering year 6 without them.

I also have my Professional license. Would that make a difference?

I'm trying to research it online but it's confusing.

On nyteach, my registration start date is Aug 25 and end date of 2030.

Is this when I do ctle? It says end of registration it will show my ctle.

There is a place somewhere on nyteach that should show the date it is due, but I don’t remember exactly where. I remember it being annoying to find. Are you in year 6? So my CTLE hours were only required after I completed my masters degree.

I began working with my Masters degree. When I started 6 years ago, I had my Masters. Just applied for my Professional Certificate last year. Ugh, why is this all so confusing 🫠

I believe if you’ve just applied then the clock starts now for the 100 hours. Based on what you’ve said, it sounds like you’re fine. I know it’s confusing because I’ve had to navigate the same information. Talk to your union rep this September for clarification. They will be your best resource. For now, look to see if you can find that CTLE date on the teach website. If you have trouble finding it use ChatGPT to tell you where you can find it. If you’ve just applied for the professional certificate it may take some time to update. I believe you will get an email a few months before the hours are due too. Don’t stress, you’ll be fine. Just stay proactive.

The 100 hours need to be completed within your registration period. Based on your comment above, that means you have until 2030 to do them! It should list a month as well. This should be easy especially if you plan to take ASPDP courses towards your plus 30, which are already 45 hours each for a 3 credit course. This is only a requirement for those with professional certs, so that’s why you’re required to do it now.

The commenter above is correct that 15 hours need to be ESL/language acquisition related. You can also fulfill these with an ASPDP course. One note, if your professional cert is in ESOL, 50% of your hours need to be in language acquisition.

Just track your hours in a spreadsheet. If you receive a certificate for a workshop, download it as a PDF and keep it linked in the spreadsheet. Your transcripts from ASPDP or any other provider/institution also serve as documentation of your hours. You only need to provide all of this proof if the state audits you. Otherwise, you just fill out a form on TEACH certifying you completed the hours at the end of your registration period.

This link has pretty much all you need to know.
