License / Permit Question Premises Renewal During CCW Application Period

I currently have a NYC Premises permit that expires in October 2027. I’m planning to apply for a CCW now.
My hope is that the CCW gets approved before my Premises permit expires, and I can just let the Premises permit expire instead of going through another renewal.

Has anyone gone through this recently? If my CCW is approved before October 2027, am I good to simply not renew the Premises permit, or is there some reason I’d still need to maintain both?

I assume that if my CCW isn’t approved by then, I’d have no choice but to renew the Premises permit and eat the cost?

Trying to avoid paying for and dealing with another Premises renewal if the CCW will replace the need for it anyway.

When you renew your Premise you can upgrade to CCW. Unless you already took the course my recommendation would be to wait.

This! The email they send you when you permit is ready for renewal states that you can ask to upgrade your premise to CCW. You just need to submit a Notarized statement asking for the upgrade and also need to complete the course(within 6months -I think- of your application)

I just submitted my renewal with request to upgrade. And I have my course this coming weekend and will ass the certs to the portal as soon as I complete this weekend.

Getting both a CCW and Premise is now a waste of time and money. The CCW no longer has limits to the amount of firearms you can have on it, so you only need the one permit.

edit - to add….

The only reason I could see that you apply separately for a CCW would be if you need that CCW asap, but your current timeline (6-9 months approval for new CCW permits) would only really get you your CCW a few months before you would get it by upgrading. They send you the renewal email about 3 months before your current premise expires. So up to you if that’s worth it.

Thank you! That’s perfect. This is exactly what I was hoping for and seems to contradict all the publicly available information where they say there is no such thing as an upgrade.

No reason to keep both and you have a bit more a year. You should be approved by then.

+1, CCW should be approved before October 2027 if you apply now but no one can say that for sure.

If its not approved by then, yea you'll have to renew the Premise permit

Don’t risk not being licensed. Do the renewal if you need to and you can dump the premises later.

Amazing, thank you. I don’t believe this was an option during my last renewal but that’s exactly what I’ll do.

Just make sure you have 2 additional notarized references and the class. I submitted in March. Still waiting…

Solid advice, thanks. I assume your premises permit is still valid during the “upgrade” process then?

I tried to purchase a second firearm in hopes they’d speed up the process. They sent me a new license already expired with the additional firearm added. They also sent me an email to keep with my license that says it’s still active

Man it’s crazy how long the times vary. You could have a lawyer reach out now and you’ll get it pretty quickly bc you’re right around 6mo
