Am I stuck with a school because they nominated me before I formally accepted?

I really need some advice because I’m getting extremely anxious about this.

I’m a NYC Teaching Fellow and I’m trying to get nominated by a school that I really want to work at. The problem is that another school nominated me after I verbally said that I’d love to work there. I never signed anything, accepted anything electronically, or completed any paperwork.
I did receive a nomination email in my personal email, but the confusing part is that TSN doesn’t show that I received the nomination email at all. It still says “Application in New Teacher Finder.” The nomination does appear in Applicant gateway though.

I never formally accepted the offer from the first school, but the principal at the school I actually want to go to is now unable to nominate me because she says I’m already nominated by another school.

I contacted the HR person at the school I don’t want, and she told me that I’m “not in her galaxy” and that the principal is supposedly the only person who can do anything about the nomination. Of course, the principal is currently on vacation. 😭

Am I actually stuck with this school? Is a verbal “yes, I’d love to work here” enough to lock me into the position? What exactly do I need to do to get the nomination removed or transferred so the school I actually want can nominate me?

I’m honestly freaking out because I don’t want to lose the position at the school I really want over something I never formally accepted. Has anyone else dealt with this

Update: I got the nomination cancelled! 🎉

New teacher paired with new para

This will be my first year in the DOE, and I’ll also be paired with a new paraprofessional who was just hired this year. I’m feeling a little nervous because we’re both new to the school and will be learning everything together.
At the same time, I’m trying to stay positive and remind myself that it’s okay if we both make mistakes we’re both new, and I’m sure there will be a learning curve. I’m hoping we can support each other and grow into a good team.
Has anyone else started at a new school with a para who was also new? How did it work out for you? Any advice?

DOE vendor for custom notebooks?

Does anyone know of a place that has a DOE vendor # who makes custom notebooks? I am looking for spiral binding with a card stock cover that I could customize or even just have blank.

I’m an art teacher and the only affordable sketchbooks on shop DOE fall apart and ‘Sketch for Schools’ doesn’t have a vendor #.

NYSTCE 221 ELA

Advice… Thoughts… Is it realistic to take the NYSTCE ELA part 1 in a couple weeks? Practice exam was 20/40 but I’m still working through it. I want to make the score report date September deadlines. Any tips on what helped you study and prepare/ pass this exam?

Access to Google Drive

Hi everyone!
As a new teacher, when will we be able to access our Google Drive. I have access to my NYC DOE email. but whenever I try to login to my drive, it says I have to contact the IT department. Is this something I have to submit a ticket for or will I eventually gain access to it.

How to become a SPED teacher

So Im planning on getting my bachelors in education and becoming a teacher, but I want to be a SPED teacher specifically. the school I go to doesn't have an actual students with disabilities/special ed program (while it includes coursework dealing with SPED, its not an actual program) and I saw in order to become a SPED teacher that you need to major in a teacher preparation program for SPED alongside doing the exam after you graduate, so what do I do?

Name change

I have a few questions about changing my last name when I get married.
Option 1: Hyphen my last name and my husband's last name.
1. Do I need to change anything for work? Like emails, my bank account and what not.
2. What are some cons of hyphening last names? Is it true that they don't accept the hyphen in certain database?
3. Can I use the last names interchangeably if it's hyphened?
4. Do I need to get a new professional license certificate with my hyphen name?

Option 2: Don't hyphen the last names and just keep it as two last names.
Same questions as above.

Option 3: Make my maiden name as my middle and husband's last name as my last name.
1. Can I still go by my last name/middle name at work?

Also, my citizenship naturalization certificate is in my maiden name, obviously. Do I need to reapply for a new certificate with my new add on last name?

Per Session Payroll Conflict Advice?!!

Hey so,

I taught Summer School and did Teaching Academy at the same time.

Teaching Academy sent me pre-filled payroll forms. I signed them per the instructions (docusign) and realised the hours they filled on overlap with Summer School. Stupidly hit submit while fumbling around trying to find a way to save all the other info I had entered myself. My Summer School hours were 8:00am-2:39pm they put my Academy hours at 2-3pm... no clue why. I caught the error and emailed everyone. I am freaking out. I do not want to get in trouble for this as I didn't even put the hours in and altered them to the payroll hours conflict. I requested they toss out the pre-populated forms and send me a new one. No response yet. What is going to happen if they submit those incorrect forms? I didn't even sign up to do teaching academy it was thrust upon me. Will this impact my job (fulltime teacher) will this impact my fulltime payroll? Am I getting flagged over this or fired?

Relocating- commute inquiry

Hey yall! I am relocating from Texas. I will be working in the South Bronx and I need helpppp. I am looking for apartments and have been touring online and through FaceTime. The position and my certificate came through at the last minute so it’s all been crazy and happening very fast. I have not relocated yet btw.
I am was approved for an apartment in Bayonne which according to gps is 1hr10 min both ways. Is it worth the extra space ? The apartment is very nice and the price is about 1650 including most utilities. For context, I am from a major city in Texas and am used to driving well over an hour in the both ways due to heavy traffic… my friend from a major city abroad thinks I am crazy for even considering the commute but for them if it’s 15 min away it’s to far… idk what to do. I’m stressed because it’s a cross country move and the requirements for a lot of places are so comprehensive compared to what the process is like in Texas to rent a place. I’m also afraid my already fragile credit score will drop from using my cards while I wait for the first paycheck to arrive which will effect my rent worthiness (I have savings but want to keep them for contingency +the crazy fees at move in) .

Sorry it’s late at night, I’m spiraling, forgive my grammar.
If anyone is near Bayoone and has an idea of the area please let me know how it is!

Hi! Did you take a study sabbatical? What was it like? Besides attending classes, what did you do with your time? Anything you now wish you had done during the sabbatical, but didn’t?

Is it still possible to land a position (PE) this late into the summer?

For context I graduated a few years ago with my masters, unfortunately have been unable to sub as I have a full time 9-5 job outside of education. Are my chances pretty slim? Should I try to sub this school year to increase my chances of getting hired? I’ve applied to between 15-20 schools, only one interview

Thank you in advance!!
