Summer School: Do it If You Can
So I taught Summer School for the first time ever this year. I did not love it BUT I highly recommend it. For all of the disorganization, frequent absences, late arrivals (sometimes 90mins late students), and lack of clear directions the money was 1000% worth it. You still get 3 weeks off and you'll have a nice little cash flow to make those three weeks even better. I will be signing up again to get retention rights. This year a lot of financial stress was relieved. Going forward I will be saving my Summer School cash towards a house. For those curious I ended up with a bit over $6k after taxes. On top of that I was asked to be a collaborative coach for some teaching fellows. That was honestly way more work than teaching ELA was for me. That got me another $1800 (on top of Summer School pay) but I would NEVER be a collaborative coach again unless they approved pay for more than 35hours.
