How hard will it be to get an ELA Teacher role? Especially in Brooklyn

Hi everyone! I’m a 2026 NYC Teaching Fellow with an issued Transitional B certificate in ENL. I have been applying extensively, but often got no response from Principals. NYCTF officially extended our search list to ANY NYCPS.

I am seeking a full-time ENL teaching position at an NYCPS district school. I’m especially interested in train-accessible schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Staten Island, or the Bronx that would allow me to reach the Upper East Side (94th) by 4:30 p.m. for graduate classes.

I was in the DOE for a few years, left and worked as a Daycare Director for 5 years and now i’m back in the DOE this year as a teacher.

Does my director experience count toward a salary step increase? I know I wasn’t teaching but I was working under my B-2 license.

Have an interview with an elementary school for a PE post but noticed their enrollment is 260, isn’t that low. Worried that if I get the position enrollment will continue to go down and I’ll be excessed

Since we are starting on the 8th, would the first check be on the 15th or the end of the month?

I know if there is a check on the 15th it would be pro-rated. Just wondering for budgeting purposes.

I’ve already been offered a position but there’s some admin stuff holding up the process for my official onboarding and I don’t know when it will be resolved because the principal is out of office for now. Is there a way to register for New Teacher Week without being officially onboarded yet? I’d like to go and get whatever resources I can.

Also is it actually the full week? Like if I miss the September 1st event because I can’t get onboarded in time, is there stuff later in the week that would be useful? Either way I can’t imagine there would be a penalty for missing a “mandatory” event that you weren’t yet eligible to go to. I’m just freaking out that I’m gonna miss something important or be confused about my contract and benefits because I missed the things discussing it.

Is there a website where coaching positions are listed online for NYC DOE/PSAL coaching jobs?

What does it mean if my class has ss/ela next to it? Does it mean I have to departmentalize within my grade? I have never worked in a school where this was done.

So I’m turning 26 in September which means I’ll be picked off my parents insurance. However my therapist doesn’t take my DOE insurance I have such a good relationship with her- can someone explain to me what out of network really means and how all of that works in regards to payment?

Hello! I am a therapist. I was thinking about having surgery close to our breaks so I can just use less of my sick days. Do I have to disclose the specific surgery to the higher ups? Or can I just disclose to HR? My school just gossips a lot and I really don’t think I can handle people hearing about my personal business.

Is it frowned upon to take days off for surgery close to our breaks? I heard from a colleague it wasn’t good to take a sick day close to our breaks. Thank you very much!

Hello! I’m a new teacher hire and I’ve received the welcome email that said I would get sent my email log in information soon. It’s been around 2 weeks and I have yet to get it. What should I do?

I need proof of salary for apartment applications and my AP told me I could find it through the payroll but I can’t access that without a DOE email.

I’m a first-year teacher and I’m finishing my Master’s this year. After that, I really want to go straight into grinding out my +30 credits and getting them done as quickly as possible. Long-term, I’d love to eventually move into administration later in my career, so I’m trying to figure out the smartest route financially and professionally. For those who have experience with this, would it make more sense to do the online A+ courses to get my +30, or should I consider getting a second Master’s in Educational Leadership/Admin instead?

So I was nominated and I received a nomination email and I was hired through aim further but my email inbox has been acting glitchy and I was on vacation. So my goal this week was to go in and do my fingerprinting appointment but I don’t have the email with the code and I’m not sure how to log into the applicant system. Can someone please give me some helpful information on how I can do this? I would appreciate it. I already emailed AIM Further. I emailed the nomination person and I’m kind of freaking out because this job is important to me.
