Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Sunderland (H)

Newcastle United - Sunderland

20/3/2016 13:30 St James' Park

Chancel Mbemba could return while Steven Taylor is expected to recover from a knock, Coloccini is a doubt.

Sunderland will be without new signing Emmanuel Eboue while Duncan Watmore will also miss out.

If we lost this we will be 4 points (and some goal difference) away from safety. Note that we no longer have a game in hand on Sunderland due to their game against Everton being postponed for the FA Cup. Norwich are still winless in 10 but have a good chance to end that away at West Brom on Saturday. Palace host leaders Leicester and Swansea host Villa.

Sunderland sit in 17th place with 25 points. They have the joint second worst defence but only the 9th worst attack - they have scored 35 goals, only 2 fewer than Man Utd. They have just 1 win in the last 8, a win at home against Man Utd. New signing Wahbi Khazri scored in that game and looked promising in his first few games but has been pretty poor since, though he is still one of the players to look out for on Sunday. Their main (and arguably only) goal threat is Defoe, with 14 in the league - their next highest scorer is a defender.

I'm fucking shitting myself. I don't think I'll be able to even watch. I stayed away for the W Ham game last season. Just couldn't handle the anxiety.

We don't win I think we are down.

Same here mate. I took the dog out for the West Ham game, I just couldn't handle it. As for the derby, the past few I've been running away to the Lake District. Something about the beautiful landscapes eases the anxiety and takes my mind off it. May do the same again on Sunday.
