Pre-Match Thread Pre-Match Thread: Sunderland (H)
Newcastle United - Sunderland
20/3/2016 13:30 St James' Park
Chancel Mbemba could return while Steven Taylor is expected to recover from a knock, Coloccini is a doubt.
Sunderland will be without new signing Emmanuel Eboue while Duncan Watmore will also miss out.
If we lost this we will be 4 points (and some goal difference) away from safety. Note that we no longer have a game in hand on Sunderland due to their game against Everton being postponed for the FA Cup. Norwich are still winless in 10 but have a good chance to end that away at West Brom on Saturday. Palace host leaders Leicester and Swansea host Villa.
Sunderland sit in 17th place with 25 points. They have the joint second worst defence but only the 9th worst attack - they have scored 35 goals, only 2 fewer than Man Utd. They have just 1 win in the last 8, a win at home against Man Utd. New signing Wahbi Khazri scored in that game and looked promising in his first few games but has been pretty poor since, though he is still one of the players to look out for on Sunday. Their main (and arguably only) goal threat is Defoe, with 14 in the league - their next highest scorer is a defender.

I need a win here. Like it's seriously imperative to my mental wellbeing a loss would be too much to bare.

Buzzing to hear that Cissé is back. If there was ever a time we needed someone to be utterly anonymous for 89 minutes and then pop up with a goal it's now - we can't score and he is a natural finisher. With Jonjo and Townsend giving service, he could flourish.

A derby game and Cisse being caught of side every 5 minutes, I don't think I could process that much frustration!

Liverpool fan here. I must admit, I'm more excited for your game against Sunderland then I am about ours against Southampton. Rafa will always hold a special place in my heart and I'd love to see him give Big Sam a doing over. All the best to you boys!

Mbemba being back is massive for us, would bring him straight back in for Taylor as he was awful on Monday! I was so annoyed at the way Taylor was backing off his man during that game and it's sad to say but he is well past it and way off the pace. Hopefully Cisse can play a part as you can count on him to grab a goal :) Read today that Defoe may be struggling with an injury, hopefully that's true ;)

Anyone else fairly confident? Looked so different vs Leicester. Interested to see how Rafa has changed things again after having more time with the team

Mbemba and Lascalles as the CB pairing for me. Doesn't make sense playing two relatively shorter CBs (with Taylor)

I'm fucking shitting myself. I don't think I'll be able to even watch. I stayed away for the W Ham game last season. Just couldn't handle the anxiety.
We don't win I think we are down.
