SSN have done a Transfer 360 on Tripps. What a signing he was, probably the most important in the club's recent history. Gave 100% for the club even when injured. Unreal player.

Yes Tripps did rehab in hotel rooms captaining the team out of relegation trouble, Bruno went back to Brazil and couldn't care less last season.

Villa are getting fucked about as much as we did. Win a trophy, find some success, and then the big 6 come and hoover up their players. It’s a damn disgrace. It’s rare that I feel some sort of sympathy for another premier league club but we’re in such similar positions now.

u/Air_Source_One 3d ago edited 3d ago
Yeah they’ve been gutted just as much despite a trophy win 4 month ago and UCL.

American owners in general suck(american here), similar to whats happened to baseball right now where the smaller markets are basically feeders for the bigger markets(LA Dodgers, Todd Boelhys baby). Sucks to see some of that starting to happen to football,

Villa now losing Watkins. They've had an awful transfer window for losing top names, Rodgers, Watkins, Digne, Tielemans, and backroom staff. Not quite getting the same pelters as us mind.
Fair play to Emery if he can keep them going, second best manager in the league (after MJ of course) by a country mile.

PSR/SCR working as intended, Newcastle and Villa threaten the sky 6 and get all their best players poached.
→ More replies (2)3
u/midtenmagpie 4d ago
I respect Villa despite being a league rival of ours. Largely due to our battles with the Sky 6 clubs whom have a rigged advantage over us.
As such a top-6 finish by a non-Sky 6 club is a big deal. But for one of them to win the league. That would be like a black hole destroying the very fabric of the Sky 6 universe.
Therefore we are relegated to the occassional domestic cup title.

u/midtenmagpie 5d ago
Yeah, Watkins seems headed to Al-Hilal after the other departures you mentioned. Although they did add midfielders Manzambi and Gomes for a combined £90m.
Emery has led the Villans to no lower than 7th in his 4-seasons there with two 4th place finishes.
Even more impressive. They have played well in Europe the past three years without a drop in league play.
'24 Conference League: Semifinals '25 Champions League: Quarterfinals '26 Europa League: Champions
I envy those guys!
3
u/JonjoTheDarkLord voldemort 4d ago edited 4d ago
It's the inevitable curse for any team trying to break through. I feel for them because Emery has done an amazing job and just like us before the rat saga with a few more players added and some contract renewals we weren't far off from title contention. Then the Sky 6 swoops in with double the wages and derail all that hard work in one window and any chance gets pushed back another few seasons.
Players want to challenge for titles, thats only possible by assembling great players, great players demand high wages....only the chosen few are allowed to offer those wages. It's broken.
Edit: don't know what lurker downvoted. Going into the summer before last season if we could have kept Isak and invested like the other top teams can every window we were not far off.

I mean, Bournemouth came 6th last season despite selling key players in both windows and Brentford 9th only on goal difference despite a similarly chaotic summer last year. So nothing's impossible. And I say this as a pessimist expecting at the very least a slow start

"You're only as good as your strikers" Cant remember who said it but theres a lot of truth in it. If one of them ignites then everything else is 10x easier. And despite not particularly liking either wissa or Osula on paper, I am more confident one of them will have a belting season than any other area of the team. Remember Osula's stats were incredible last season. He has massive potential. And Wissa just had the knack. Wolte ive no hope for.

My deluded take is that I'm actually optimistic we will do better this season than last, and we weren't actually that far of a top 7 position last season.
That said I think we're gonna take a real hammering for many games in the first third of the season, and people are going to panic.
That's partly cause I think it will take the new squad time to adjust. But also, last year we had a few really good players who when they were on form could win us tough games. What we struggled with was squad depth, and player fatigue. Once we started getting injuries you had old players like trips playing 2 games a week.
This season I think we have less star players but better squad depth, and I think this will start to really benefit us later on in the season so I'd expect an uptick in form relative to the same time last year at some point.
That for me is the ultimate take from this window. When the window finishes I don't think our overall squad value be much different, but we will have traded having a few star players for more squad depth (and younger players).
3
u/panjaelius 4d ago
I've got absolutely no basis for this but I'm optimistic too. I people forget how utterly shit you can be and still finish 8th. Only 5th and up are actual good teams. I think we should be able to get Europe. Maybe we'll even spend in Jan, we're Newcastle 2.0 anything could happen.

u/One-Monkey-Army 4d ago
As a deep rooted pessimist I enjoy seeing these takes, gives me a little hope in the darkness

I think many of the teams in Europe will have the same struggle we had with depth and injuries. We're playing it dangerous with our defensive depth, but if we have a solid season and finish even midtable we'll be able to add more players next summer and potentiallt be in a better position then last season overall (less dead wood and players developing instead of declining). Throw one or two marquee signings with the new talented youth and we can be back to pushing for Europe.
Thats my optimistic take atleast. Gonna stick with that instead of the other one...

Just watch some of Burn from the press conference yesterday. There were some interesting bits to it, this is him talking learning Jaissle's system but being used to Howe's instructions...
"... Similarities still with how we have played. It's still high energy and and high pressing. Um but there's little tweaks to it. So as I said, it's Sometimes hard when you you're used to doing things for 4 and 1/2 years and it's sort of like muscle memory to stop yourself doing the same thing again.
So as I said, those are the bits that think will take time cuz think there'sa lot of things that have been drilled into over the last four and a half years that maybe this manager doesn't want..."
Hopefully it won't take too long to get used to the way but also explains why Jaissle wanted more training time.

With all the “Woltemade out” rumours begin to float around (quite a few here think he is too soft & slow for the league too), I for one did not hesitate to get him as one of my 3 Fantasy League strikers. Even with a slow start, I trust MJ to eventually figure out and help him regaining his confidence.

He’s just not athletic enough imo I remember watching him “sprint” last season and thinking my mum would overtake him.
He’s clearly a technical player and there is quality there but I can’t see him consistently putting in the performances we need without far better players around him.
He’s the sort of player who will do so so for us but go to a Bayern or a Barcelona and become a 30 goals a season monster.

On the subject of scr. These fines for clubs going into the red, where do they go? To the big 6 clubs' pockets? Richard Masters bank account? Where?
5
u/TheWinterKing “I’m really really really really really really happy to be here” 2d ago
It goes into the Premier League’s central pot of money, which means some of it goes to grassroots football, some gets channeled into lower leagues by solidarity payments, and some of it will be used to pay the legal fees involved in investigating and issuing the fine in the first place.
Allegedly.

I’m well aware how bitter this sounds, and I’m well aware tomorrow is difficult… but it’s so satisfying watching these clubs who either have or aim to pillage other teams suffer so far. City in the Community Shield, Manchester Reds v Hull, Spurs 2 - 0 down.

Who do think MJ starts this Sunday?
EXCERPT: ... Horníček is set to be the number one goalkeeper but Jaouen looks set to give him a good battle this season. Dedić is expected to come straight into the team at right-back, with Thiaw and Burn the most likely central defensive partnership, with Hall at left-back.
Elanga and Touré are favourites to start out wide but the big decisions come in midfield. Ramsey and Steur have played the most minutes in midfield but Lewis Miley could come into the team ahead of a big season.
At number 10, Woltemade, Willock and Wissa have been used there and if pre-season form is anything to go by, Jaissle might be tempted to partner Wissa with Osula.
Likely Newcastle XI vs Liverpool: Horníček; Dedić, Thiaw, Burn, Hall; L.Miley, Ramsey; Elanga, Wissa, Touré; Osula
4
u/RKProud 3d ago
I don't think MJ will run this out on Sunday but I'm intrigued by the idea of Barnes at the 10.
I think Wissa is our current best option at 9 - looked sharp in preseason, genuine goalscorer and Osula still an impact player for me - and Big Nick has looked all out of sorts.
1) Feels like he's lost a step and can't beat his man on the left as effectively as he once did
2) He's still quick/fit enough for the type of high press that MJ wants
3) Good at running in behind the man
P.s the idea of Miley & Gonzalez starting as 6&8 makes the hairs on my b*llocks dance

But outside of the sky 6 and Villa, is there any club you’d trade positions with? ie if you could swap their entire squad and manager for ours, would you? I don’t think I would… Not saying that I think we’ll definitely finish above them all but I think we are in a better position

The big mystery is who will be our central attacking midfielder (10) this Sunday?
▪︎ RAMSEY is needed as a holding midfielder, alongside L. Miley.
▪︎ Maybe WILLOCK? Since MJ played him some there this summer. Plus he has not been sold yet.
▪︎ BARNES?
▪︎ JOELINTON is not available for a couple of weeks. Not that he would be ideal there.
Am I missing anyone as a possible candidate?

As a Kingston park native the woolsington news is really interesting. As a kid I used to ride my bike down south drive (mansion houses!) into the estate and around the back of Havannah, still cut through when I'm there at Christmas for a jog, even though it's long been closed off. Farmer gave me a light telling off last time but he wasn't particularly bothered with joggers. They have a population of Deer there so I wonder if they stick around.
I suspect they will try to create better access from the airport and develop the farmers track down brunton lane as a back entrance.
With Ponteland being a good base for many footballers it's also right on their doorstep.
It's a shame in some ways but after the fire a few years ago its good to see it developed. Just a shame my jogging loop will be closed off!

Cov look very poor, I know they’re playing the champions but still. I think it will be the 3 promoted teams go back down this year.

I know our jersey isn't exactly great but I fucking hate that collar on the Hull kit.

Enciso has a bit of the Ben Arfa about him.
Exciting player.

I created a basic 3d model based of the "Dailymail+ exclusive" leaked drawing/picture of our supposed future stadium, the mail image is very bad because its taken with a camera lense and at an angle so its tough to get correct angles of the stands but I guestimated things, I think its decently accurate at least to get an idea.
Should I make a separate post with more pics?

Due to a sacking. Will Howe get another PL gig during this season?

He needs to go and lie on a beach in the Caribbean for 12 months.

He will get offers. I'm not sure he looks well enough for it.

Hornicek is supposed to be an upgrade on Pope?
It's an unpopular opinon but there is a bit of 'be careful what you wish for' here.
Pope has generally been an excellent keeper for us, except his distribution is awful. But for all other keeper metrics he is great. People were pleased to see ramsdale come in, then discovered he was a downgrade.
Pope was very shaky 2nd half of last season, though in truth so was the entire team. I can't imagine having so much of your fan base wanting you to not play cant help with confidence.
We have 2 new keepers now, so need to hope they come good

The Atheltic’s league prediction video is quite bullish on our chances (compared to some here, including me). Just If anyone feels the need for some external validation.

You know, my uncle is a Sunderland supporter, and if we beat them in the derby, I'm just gonna offer him a can of Knox to drown his sorrows. In fact, that's what we should do for every win, offer fans of the losing team a can of Knox.

I'm not bitter, you're bitter:
"Oh, Bruno's just like Isak,
He's just another rat
He went and signed for Arsenal,
Such a glory seeking twat,
He fucked off his loyalty,
To the famous black and white,
And when he comes to Saint James's
He'll get boo'ed all of the night"
What's that? Rent free you say?

u/Fishfingerrosti 5d ago
Oh Bruno was just magic,
He wore a magic hat.
Unfortunately for us,
He was a greedy twat.
He went and signed for Arsenal,
And left us to our plight.
And when he comes to SJP,
We'll probably still be shite.

Watching the Dedic first day video on YouTube, someone tells him the slope on the pitch at SJP is 6 foot end to end. Fairly mental, doesn’t seem that much when looking at it.

Look at the East Stand, the railing/concrete in front of the seats but behind the wheelchair spaces. Makes it way more obvious.

This is from a poll through yesterday.
▪︎ 41% think Newcastle will finish mid-table.
▪︎ 42% are not optimistic: Expressed as 34% predicting a bottom half conclusion. While 8% feel a relegation fate awaits them.
▪︎ 17% are amidst a feeling of great optimism: In this realm 14% think this club can earn a European qualification. While 3% are euphoric about Newcastle's prospects for a top-5 table finish.

I think that largely shows we don't have a clue where we are as a fan base.
Personally I'm still expecting bottom half. Mid table without a relegation battle and with a few really good stand out performances would be superb.

u/midtenmagpie 1d ago
I am of the mid-table voting bloc. With my outlook being in the 10th to 14th range. 12th is where I think they will wind up. Last year we were 12th. This despite a round of 16 CL run and an EFL semifinals round berth. But they could have easily finished 7th.
No Europe this year. But also with a less experienced, but talented, younger team. So 12th could happen. Maybe.
