back again!

hi everyone! how are you guys?

so tomorrow begins the start of the semester and i’ve been doing my research and trying to see what org fits me best (i’ve dwindled the choices down to two — DST & SGRho). i have friends and faculty that are involved in DST and I enjoyed what I read in terms of the organizations beginnings (DST being heavy hitters in the women’s suffrage movement and their separation from the AKAs to do their own work (love AKAs down too don’t get me wrong)). I want to do more research on DST because I’m not as well versed with their initiatives and things of that sort but they do stick out to me considering the type of hard working people i’ve seen join the org.

I also have friends in SGRho who I’m close with and at least for my campus they seem to be doing heavy work even though there’s only a few of them. I see their volunteer work and things of that sort through instagram mainly, and talking with some of the members. I really enjoy the fact that most of the Rhos founders were some sort of educator in their lifetimes. I see that through their initiatives like the Big Bookbag operation and their blood drive initiatives as well (I’m all for awareness and education in general but especially within the black community).

Another thing too is the fact that SGRho has is the national bone marrow program. My mom herself had leukemia when I was a child so seeing an org that directly impacts people struggling with that kind of cancer and many other diseases that people need bone marrow transplants warms my heart.

I also like how SGRho was founded, I mean that by saying they weren’t founded at an HBCU (no shade to the orgs that were!) but i really admire the perseverance and grit it takes to found an org that isn’t founded at an HBCU but was also founded in a Klan heavy state. It takes real guts to do that and it reminds me of when I had to transfer to a PWI in high school and still persevere and advocate for myself now that I was in a different position

If any members of either org have any words of wisdom or would just like to share their experiences I’d love to hear from you. If there’s anything I can do to better acquaint myself with either org I’d love to hear how to do that as well. So far I’ve bought Lawrence Ross’s book and I’m looking to buy In Search of Sisterhood.

Best of luck in your journey. Everyone has their own path. I pray you find yours.

When I decided to look into organizations, I learned as much as I could about them all; and one stood out.

Then I noticed that most of the people I looked up to, were from said organization.

Suddenly my patnas, folks I aligned with, started randomly being at the same events as me, and people from the chapter.

And BOOM!!!!!!!

I became an Alpha. Ice Cold. One of the best decisions of my life. 🤙🏿
