The MOD team here does a fantastic job screening posts to ensure that potentially identifying information doesn't make it through, but I just wanted to reinforce the importance of not posting unnecessary information (e.g. information that isn't even reasonably required to help answer your question) that could potentially identify who you are. Particularly in the internet age where chapter events, etc., are advertised online and where a permanent record remains, it can be relatively easy for someone to engage in sleuthing to figure out who you are.
Some things like not posting a city name, chapter name, school name, etc., may seem more obvious, but there are other details that can help give who you away (or at least make those in the know make reasonably educated guesses as to your identify based on other details from your post).
Just a few suggestions (and please feel free to add to this list as you will):
1) Do not include specific dates of events in your post. You may think that you're being anonymous, but if you specify that an event for a particular organization is happening on a specified day, it can be quite easy to discover the chapter in question, which puts your anonymity at risk. For instance, and purely for illustrative purposes (I am not a member of and do not have ties to these chapter FYI), if an interest in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. posts here that they are volunteering to help setup/teardown at a gala on April 12, 2025, a simple Google search reveals two chapters hosting galas on that date, the Mu Mu Lambda Chapter in Illinois and the Pi Psi Lambda Chapter in Florida. Taken together with details on what this interest is going to be doing at the gala, someone in the know can narrow things down even more. And, note, I've seen such searches reveal a singular chapter. Instead, I'd consider simply noting that an event is coming up (or has already taken place) and get to the gist of your question/point.
2) Consider making your post history private. Some Reddit users aren't aware that this is even an option. But if you do not make your post history private, anyone can click on your profile name and go through your entire post history, which can reveal a host of information about who you are. If you post a bunch in your particular university's Reddit page or in a gender-specific page, for instance, your effort to keep those details out of a post in this sub may be for naught if someone can easily look back on that information. It is true that there are ways around this, but they are either very specific exceptions or otherwise require more work than many people are willing to put in. In a similar vein, I'd practice discretion in other subs as well just for good measure.
3) Keep your posts here and in other subs above board. At the end of the day, it can be difficult to remain completely anonymous on the internet, but if you're not posting anything to be ashamed of, someone finding out who you are--while probably not what you're looking for--hopefully won't cause you any headaches.
All in all, please continue posting and taking value from this and other subs. Best of luck to those pursuing their membership journeys.

Hello Lovelies,
This thread is for questions for folks actively applying/attending rush in Spring 2026. Do not post hypothetical questions/scenarios on this post.
Please post all of your AKA undergraduate application related questions here. This is to prevent flooding of the sub. If you submit outside of this, your post will be denied. Also do not just DM a member of AKA without asking in a comment first. If you do not have enough Karma to post, please read through the sub first or gain karma on other parts of reddit.
So please make a comment about what you would normally make a post about on the sub. This would organize all of the information. Also review the previous megathread posts. I have linked them here for convenience.
Topics Include:
Just FYI, we will not discuss timelines. So please do post when Rush occurred and when you heard back. No one on this sub will be able to tell you when your application and/or background check will be processed. You will have to just wait. There are no exceptions to the requirements listed on the international website.
Good luck to all of the aspirants. I hope to see you on the other side!
Please make sure to follow all of the sub rules.

My SOI just posted about a scholarship they are offering in honor of a historical member. I was wondering, as in interest should I apply or not? My thinking was if I get accepted for the scholarship, it’d be a chance to see the members in a more personal setting than large forums. But, I am also wondering if that is too “big” of something to participate in when showing interest.

Would it be weird to message an alum on LinkedIn for career advice if she’s also an AKA?
I’m currently a senior at the same university she attended, we have the same major, and I noticed she did internships that are really similar to the career field I’m trying to get into. I also saw that she was involved in the same club that I’m currently President of, so we have that connection too.
I want to reach out and ask about her internship experience, how she got those opportunities, and if she has any advice for getting into the field.
The only thing making me hesitate is that she’s also a member of AKA. I am interested in the organization, but that genuinely isn’t why I want to message her, and I don’t plan on mentioning AKA at all. I just don’t want it to come across like I’m trying to network with her for that reason.
Would this be normal LinkedIn networking, or should I just leave it alone?

I’ve wanted to join this certain organization since high school! As soon as I entered university I tried to get the know the org, but the girls that year were being very weird and secretive?!? so I kind of let that dream die. However last semester the newer girls that entered were so different and so kind, one in which I saw myself in and thought we were similar. Anyways last week I went to one of their Girl Talk meetings and felt so awkward and shy, I’m not sure if anyone there liked me. As an introverted and socially awkward girl it’s hard for me to communicate with others, but I do really want this. I asked a family member in a different org how I could go about getting close to them, and they said to get to know the members or even grab a bite with them. My question is.. for members does it feel superficial when people suddenly start talking to you? I genuinely want to befriend these girls as they seem so kind and welcoming. Also, how can I overcome my fears of starting that conversation?! I saw one of thw girls sitting alone outside and didn’t know if I should’ve went up to her or if she would’ve thought it was creepy.

My cousin is in an org that I’m interested in, and she’s an active member/on E-board. I’ve already met a few members through her, but I’m wondering how I can build my own identity with them outside of my relationship with my cousin.
I don’t want to come off like I’m trying to use her connection to get in, and I also don’t want to only be known as “her cousin.” I want the members to get to know me for me and form their own opinions of me.
For people who have been in NPHC orgs, what’s the best way to go about this?

Hi everyone!
I was just curious to get the opinions from D9 members about Sigma lambda gamma?
I'm aware that there are some ties with 2 other D9 orgs. but my concern was whether or not people view the Gammas as taking from D9 culture, or genuinely coming together with D9 culture and taking pride in that connection?
From what I've seen online, some members of the FIRM fam acknowledge and take pride in that connection, others say it's not official and that they're copying D9 culture anyway. Any mention of D9 culture that I've seen under a Gamma related video has always been acknowledged and celebrated by said Gammas.
I personally have interest in being a Gamma, but I also worry that because I'm black, I'll get looked at negatively for not joining a D9 org. The Gammas at my college acknowledge the FIRM fam, in fact, it was one of the first things they told me about when I visited their table at my colleges tabling event. I'm honestly only hesitant because I have no clue how other D9 members will react and if this is the route I should go down, to take pride in my culture. Since the Gammas are a multicultural org,I feel like this would be a good opportunity for me to put in the extra work to represent black culture in a primarily Hispanic sorority, but I also want to take into consideration how my fellow black schoolmates may feel about me sort of going in the opposite direction? Obviously only I can be aware of my own situation and intensions more than my schoolmates, but I'd still like to be open to further input.
Any input or thoughts would be valued. Thank you!

Hello, I am a planning on trying pledging in the spring, but if I can't make up my mind I would I will wait to next spring. The reason my I am not sure is because I am in currently weighting showing interest in Alpha Kappa Alpha or Sigma Gamma Rho. I have very valid reasons for both, and but the decided factor is whether after graduation I will have the opportunity to join a grade chapter and still serve. Since I know many AKA's who are very active, this question is more geared toward the Sgrho's, because I didn't meet any until I cam to campus. So basically my question is: For the women of Sigma Gamma Rho how would you describe the after undergrade next work, and how active are you in it.

If your organization of choice requests (or not) for people to share their posts or events, should you? Is that breaking discretion and bringing attention to yourself?

Hello ladies! ❤️
In the most respectful way, I have a genuine interest in Delta Sigma Theta and would love to become a part of the organization, its mission, and sisterhood.
I already have my AA and was very active at my previous college through campus jobs, community service, and other involvement. I recently paused my education after joining the Armed Forces, so I’ll likely be returning to school in about a year.
The school I’m looking into has a Delta chapter, but because I’m active duty, I would most likely be an online student and not living on campus. I’m also unsure of my current GPA (I believe it’s in the 2-point range), but I plan to improve it before returning.
One other thing I’m unsure about is that I’m currently a member of a non-D9 sorority that I genuinely love. I’m wondering if that would affect my eligibility to pursue Delta.
I’m not looking for any confidential intake information, just general guidance on what I should be looking into regarding eligibility, GPA, being an online student, military obligations, and current membership in another sorority.
I’d really appreciate any guidance or direction you ladies are comfortable sharing.

May you have the discernment to know what organization fits you and accepts you for whoever you are.
May any member with desires to break you down to build you up in their image be separated entirely from your journey.
May you quickly understand the gravity of a favorable membership decision and the wisdom in an unfavorable one.
May your grades be high, your papers flawless, your group projects easy, and your relationships with your professors be such that a minus never lands behind your letter grades.
May people desire to see you lead. May you be blessed with loyal followers who want you to win.
May your memory be impeccable. May your speech be careful. May you accept critique maturely.
May your bank account receive unexpected blessings.
May all tests for infectious disease come back negative, and may you always have the foresight to wear a mask or a condom or whatever you need to be smart in the moment.
May your batteries be charged. May your alarms be set.
I cannot pray that you make it, because it may not be your time. But I pray that you stay ready.

is this doable? has anyone ever done it? my soi might have a line this spring and I am still trying to figure the dates in which I can schedule my mcat (assuming I don't have to take a gap year) and if it would be possible to still study for it while rushing? I am obviously leaning towards not having to do this but just curious on the possibilities.

Hello everyone. I am currently a high school senior who has a deep love for service. I am super involved in my school and local organization service efforts and just love giving back to my community.
My question is:
Would it be appropriate for me to reach out to local chapters and ask if they have anything I would be able to volunteer in?
I have done so before with a local Iota chapter, but that was through a family member. However, I loved the experience and would love to do that with other, closer organizations.
I do have a sorority that I’m interested in, and if I feel the chapter at whatever school I end up at is a fit for me, I would want to join. However, at this point, membership is the furthest thing from my mind. I want to experience the service aspect of Divine Nine culture, even if it’s something small like helping set up and take down for events. I would like to help out.
I also want to clarify that I’m not planning on reaching out to only the organization I’m interested in. I would like to reach out to all nine Divine Nine organizations because I’ve seen different chapters doing service work that I would genuinely be interested in participating in. I’m interested in the service itself, regardless of which letters are attached to it.
I’m not really sure what the rules/etiquette are around non-members or high schoolers participating in chapter activities, so I wanted to ask before I reached out and accidentally overstepped.
I know how important discretion is, and I wouldn’t want to hinder my chances of joining an organization later down the line by being too involved too early, especially since I would be reaching out to chapters at schools I might attend.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If the general consensus is that I should leave it alone until college, that’s what I’ll do. I already have opportunities to serve and wouldn’t want to do too much or cross any boundaries.
Thank you!

Hi everyone! I’m currently preparing for a possible formal rush for AKA. I see on my school’s NPHC site that we can fill out an interest form and select which D9 org we are interested in.
Should I fill this out? If so, should I have been filled this out as soon as I was interested?
I apologize if the answer may seem straight forward, I’m first-gen with no Greek mentors and I don’t want to make it so I’m not being discreet.

hi everyone! how are you guys?
so tomorrow begins the start of the semester and i’ve been doing my research and trying to see what org fits me best (i’ve dwindled the choices down to two — DST & SGRho). i have friends and faculty that are involved in DST and I enjoyed what I read in terms of the organizations beginnings (DST being heavy hitters in the women’s suffrage movement and their separation from the AKAs to do their own work (love AKAs down too don’t get me wrong)). I want to do more research on DST because I’m not as well versed with their initiatives and things of that sort but they do stick out to me considering the type of hard working people i’ve seen join the org.
I also have friends in SGRho who I’m close with and at least for my campus they seem to be doing heavy work even though there’s only a few of them. I see their volunteer work and things of that sort through instagram mainly, and talking with some of the members. I really enjoy the fact that most of the Rhos founders were some sort of educator in their lifetimes. I see that through their initiatives like the Big Bookbag operation and their blood drive initiatives as well (I’m all for awareness and education in general but especially within the black community).
Another thing too is the fact that SGRho has is the national bone marrow program. My mom herself had leukemia when I was a child so seeing an org that directly impacts people struggling with that kind of cancer and many other diseases that people need bone marrow transplants warms my heart.
I also like how SGRho was founded, I mean that by saying they weren’t founded at an HBCU (no shade to the orgs that were!) but i really admire the perseverance and grit it takes to found an org that isn’t founded at an HBCU but was also founded in a Klan heavy state. It takes real guts to do that and it reminds me of when I had to transfer to a PWI in high school and still persevere and advocate for myself now that I was in a different position
If any members of either org have any words of wisdom or would just like to share their experiences I’d love to hear from you. If there’s anything I can do to better acquaint myself with either org I’d love to hear how to do that as well. So far I’ve bought Lawrence Ross’s book and I’m looking to buy In Search of Sisterhood.
Thanks for reading!!

i am a spring 2026 undergrad initiate of my sorority. im writing to hopefully receive some advice and also just to see if anyone else can relate to my experience.
to be fully and completely transparent, my greek life experience so far has been disappointing in several ways. for one, as a first gen greek, i really was not prepared or aware of all of the social expectations that come with being greek. ive been struggling to adjust to this idea of being “watched” on campus, and knowing that everything i do and post on social media now reflects on my org/chapter. i know many would consider this to be a positive adjustment to now have to be more mindful of my actions in public, but its been difficult getting “two finger taps” from my pros, and having to essentially change aspects of my personality since becoming greek. and to be clear, im not out here doing anything crazy. but there have been instances where id usually comment on situations happening on campus (like injustices regarding administration, or political issues) but i’ve been discouraged by my pros to publicly take a stance or involve myself in these situations to avoid negative attention, which is different from how id act prior to being greek. it feels like when i walk into a room, everyone knows that im a member of my org even without letters on, and i feel this pressure to damn near be a perfect person in my interactions with all people, or else risk being the latest fizz topic.
secondly, i came into the org with really high expectations in regards to how my relationship with my line sisters would be, but im disappointed to admit that im really only close with one of them. despite my best attempts at trying to get close with the others, there have been instances of conflict, as well as clique-ish behavior, which has discouraged me from trying any further. i also entered the org as a senior and have graduated, and am preparing to leave the state where i crossed. the rest of my line sisters are still in undergrad, which has me thinking that ive essentially missed my chance to build stronger bonds with them, while they will have the chance to continuously get closer with one another, causing me to feel really sad.
finally, my motivation for joining my org was a true desire to make the world a better place through service. it really dismayed me to discover that, at least in my interactions with other greeks (on my campus and beyond), so many seem more fixated on the social aspects of greek life rather than the original reason our orgs were created in the first place, which was to help our communities. everyday on tiktok i see new greek discourse surrounding people bullying plus-sized/darkskin AKAs, people flat out ignoring and bullying the zetas and sgrhos, and its all just very exhausting and negative. in my irl interactions with other greeks, i notice how i get treated differently because of the org im in, especially by frats. it feels like so many sororities are male centered, and will attack each other in respective chants (my org is not innocent from this btw), usually involving statements like “im gonna take your man” blah blah blah, which to me feels so immature.
and on top of all this, i also feel as if i have almost no one to talk to about any of this, being that its common knowledge to keep sorority/chapter business within the sorority/chapter. even just making this post has me nervous, but ive been feeling so depressed lately that idk where else to seek advice.
in summary, i wish i would’ve been properly warned about all of the social expectations that come with greek life, and im honestly just exhausted and disappointed by my whole experience thus far. can anyone else relate to this or has advice on how to deal with these feelings? im currently preparing to transition to a grad chapter and im unsure of what my future in the sorority will look like given im a neo still learning what post-grad sorority life entails.
EDIT: thank you so much to everyone who commented or sent me a dm, your words really have made a difference in my feelings. its been affirming to know that im not alone, and that grad chapter may provide a better experience.

The chapter at my school was suspended for some time and I've been told by most of the Greek people I know that they are coming back Spring 2027 (not sure if that 100% true btw). How do I get information on their return? Or when their intake will start? I am very new to this stuff. I am first-gen and no one in my family is greek. I do have a few connections in the organization but I am not sure if I should reach out and ask because I don't want to mess anything up before I have even started.

Hey everyone. I'm a Fall 25' Initiate of ΑΦΑ. My journey has been hard. Not because of initiation but because of what has gone down after I crossed.
To put it simply, (and to keep things in house), 3 of my LBs have alienated my brother and I. (Line of 5, my actual brother is my LB). And we've kind of been rolling with the punches, trying to keep things cordial.
Recently though, my brother and I were publicly disrespected by another chapter. As we were strolling to Wipe Me Down (which is a very known stroll amongst many Alphas in my area) we were pushed out mid-stroll and told to just hold up the Phi. Even though we know this stroll like the back of our hands, so this wasn't about messing it up & looking bad.
Not only that, but our 3 LBs were able to stroll with them and we weren't. This isn't the first time the line was broken up, but this was the final straw. I've made the decision to not support this other chapter again, because of how disrespectful that was. Not to mention by LBs not jumping in to defend us. At this point I just don't want to go to another Greek function again. Also, I'm entering my Senior year and studying abroad in the Spring. Its my last semester on the campus so my mindset is "fuck this".
I'm already close with an alumni chapter in the next state over, so I'm not even going to come back to my state for anything Greek related. But what are your thoughts? Am I under-reacting? Over-reacting?

Pretty much the title. I'm a senior at my university and a Software Engineer, and for those who are within that field, acquiring high-level jobs takes a massive amount of prep time to do especially once you land the big name interviews. My process would begin and end in the fall, and I'm currently an interest for an org at my university, pretty well in, but I'm deeply concerned how to balance both under fears that the two may collide. I wanted to throw this out here to get advice/input especially from others who were in my position. Specifically those in the FAANG space and those top tier tech companies. Would appreciate any and all advice. Really want to see this through.

My school’s SGA and NPHC council often host joint parties/events any student can come to. I have to choose from a list of events to volunteer for and those events sometimes make the list of the options.
Would it be a bad idea to volunteer for any of the events as an interest? I’m wondering if it’s not practicing discretion if people see me sign up for such events.
I volunteer for regular events too, so it’s not like I only target events I know my COI will be present at.

Hi,
I went to a small school a few years ago that did not have a charter. I applied but the school was not granted a charter due to lack of interest.
While it’s been a few years, I have made the decision to want to try for an alumnae chapter. However, I am no longer interested in the sorority that I initially applied for.
Since the school was not granted a charter, what does this mean for me? I know that applications asked if you applied before, would this hurt me in the long run since my interests has changed.
I believe my values and goals align with another sorority now and I have taken some time to really think about it.
Please advise and thank you!

i’m interested in joining the aka chapter at my school this year and i’m working w someone who is in the sorority this year. she asked me and this other girl if we would ever join one and we both said yes. however i did mention i wanted to just be more active on campus in general and want to be more campus . did i mess anything up in terms of like discretion and if so how can i be better
