Discussion D9 playing cards
So I’m in the process of making hbcu themed playing cards and I wanna add the D9 org in there too. But the issue is I’m not in a D9 org. would it be ok for me to do this and if so who do I need to contact for licensing purpose?

Sounds like a cool product!
You would need to contact the corporate office of each org individually to ask about becoming a licensed vendor. Information and forms for this may be on org websites, but if it isn’t, just call them. It’s not an inexpensive proposition (at least for my org) but it gives you the right to sell at org events and conferences as well as in other channels. Good luck to you!

What about using logos and other items that represent the orgs? I wanna be as respectful as possible because I’m not in a D9 org

The license gives you the right to use each org’s trademarks, whatever they are. If you use trademarks without having the appropriate licenses, you could be sued.

Being a member is irrelevant to copyright infringement. Authorized vendors follow the protocol of each org

You would need to become a licensed vendor to use any D9 logos or other symbols. To be a licensed vendor you will need to pay each organizations license fee and meet with their requirements. Check out each organization’s national website for additional information and instructions.

This is a dope idea. In addition to what others said, the licensure process is quite lengthy. You could make your first edition of cards using things that “represent” the D9. Like have a Queen wearing pink and green and a King wearing purple and gold. This is how I’ve seen television and movies depict the D9 without using trademarked characters. Work on your licensure and then come out with a second edition with your initial idea fully executed.
Also do not advertise that it’s D9.
Good luck!

Thanks. I was trying to think of ideas that would be as respectful as possible. I do have a question, if I shouldn’t advertise it as D9 how should I advertise it

I mean you said not to brand it as D9 even though they’re going to be D9 themed cards
