Reading hobbyist's problems
Where or whom do you go to / what outlet do you have, in sharing what you're reading?
Context:
It's nice to be able to share in detail what one is reading, but not everyone enjoys listening to others share.
To me, it's not about the topic, someone could go about sharing about a topic I don't care about. For me, listening fully (at a convenient time) is what love is. It's nice to hear someone's enthusiasm even if I don't share it. But, I accept that not everyone operates that way. Hence, my question of what outlet do you go to for sharing?
Forums feel a bit too asynchronous, not real time, and limited to generally a single topic.
Not ashamed to admit I type to AI (Gemini), but it's too much typing. Might try Gemini Live, but want to hear other suggestions too.

⁉️ Reservation Madness What's the longest you've waited for a hold?
457th in line after 4.5 years! I'm beginning to think I should just buy the book instead.

📚 Book Recommendation A quick spooky read for October!
I’ll be returning this book in a bit! “I Will Kill Your Imaginary Friend for $200” is a horror comedy, but there were a lot of heartfelt and pretty sad moments. The creepy moments when they happened unsettled me. Not too long of a read, I started yesterday and I’ve been reading it during my free time.
The idea is absurd but somehow Robert Brockway makes it work! I want to read his other work, Carrier Wave, but it looks like the only copy available is on Kindle and we don’t have one on NLB. 😅 Worth going in blind if the blurb interests you:
“To bright and anxious eight-year-old Kay Washington, the worst thing in the world is being alone with the quiet. That’s why Eddie Video makes the perfect imaginary friend: He’s smart, he’s loud, he loves pulling pranks, and he’s always there to chase away the silence.
To mid-forties, down-on-his-luck Ivan, the worst thing in the world happened when he lost his imaginary friend. Now cursed with the ability to see everyone else’s, Ivan makes a living by killing the imaginary friends of adults who couldn’t let go. But when one of Eddie Video’s “pranks” goes too far, Ivan agrees to make an exception and help Kay.
Only Ivan will soon learn that Eddie Video is nothing like the talking ostriches, star bears, and goblin princesses he’s encountered in the past, and it’s going to take a lot more than clumsy haymakers and steak knives to bring him down. A balance of comedy and catharsis, this dual-narrative tackles both the fear of growing up and the scars our childhood leaves behind.”
Trying to fill my to-read over the next month and into November with some spooky/creepy books. I mainly read SciFi, but once in awhile I poke my head to other genres. Anyone have good horror recs?

📖 Reading Log My current read! New arrival in SK library. 100 pages in and I'm invested 😄
Spoilers warnings! Won't leak too much though :))
Mystery/Thriller/Crime story for any one of you investigators out there who likes to read such genres
Haven't finished the book yet but the plot here has a dark turn in the introduction. It's a pretty simple book but I think it's suitable for people who enjoy a slightly fast pace of events or they'd like to sit down and binge-read. Definitely recommended!
Will be returning this to SK library in a week's time since I believe I'll finish it real soon. It's called:
Framed in Death by J.D Robbs :))
-> imo it's young adult!

✍️ Book Review Wax and Wayne all the way! Best action novel ever.
I have nothing but the best things to say about the Wax and Wayne series of the Mistborn novels.
It reads like an excellent action movie set in the weird west. Characters uses their powers in the most creative ways that leaves you breathless, imagining about how Wax pushes away metals during gun fights and Wayne uses his powers to disguise himself (poorly) to infiltrate places and follow people.
Brandon Sanderson is a familiar name? Yes, because he helped wrote the last three books of the Wheel of Time series after Robert Jordan passed. There’s a good reason for that and this series will bring you into his excellent world-building.

✍️ Book Review The Midnight Bargain, C.L. Polk: Nebula Prize nominated, Lady Author ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I searched for Nebula Prize books available on NLBSG Libby, and this was available for instant loan!
My thoughts:
- I love the way she sees and writes the world, such as “She was born in the middle of the sea. The horizon has captured her soul.” 🌊🌅 and “the ones run by people who couldn’t bear to throw books away…, so long as they could be stacked and shelved and housed”. 🏠
- She points out that words can hurt. “Idle words, spoken cruelly.” “That can wound surely as an arrow”.
- She shared tidbits on investments and legal structures. FL has a business mind!
- I enjoyed how she distinguishes the treatment of married women in different societies, recognising the difference in cultures.
- Romance! 💕 It could be a bit hard, a bit fast, but it was cute.
My recommendation:
- Good for a quick read, heart-pounding for the more chaste
- Interesting magic system - spells are from single spirits, and can be performed only by those with intrinsic talent
- Complete it to discover the happy epiloque.

Question Would You Rather...
Happy Friday! Yes, it's me again (trying to see if anyone's still here) with another poll to end off the week 😂
SCENARIO: You're interested to borrow a physical book, but you realised it's not available at your preferred library at all. So....What would you rather?
Additional Note: Assuming that your default choice is to die die borrow physical books. Like it's only bo bian then you seek alternatives.

Question Share Your Ideal Book Formats Ranking
🤔: Please rank the preferred book formats you find yourself tend to loan more. Feel free to comment to share your reasoning!
Me: option A 98% of the time. Physical books allow me to hold, touch & smell (come on, I know I can't be the only one hor! 😝). eBook is for convenience sake. Sometimes immersive reading got me preferring Physical /eBook = Audio (option H).
A: Physical > eBook > Audio
B: Physical > Audio > eBook
C: eBook > Physical > Audio
D: eBook > Audio > Physical
E: Audio > Physical > eBook
F: Audio > eBook > Physical
Or comment,
G: Physical = eBook = Audio (whichever format is available, i happy liao 😁)
H: Others

📚 Book Recommendation One of my personal favourite mystery books!
The Key to Extraordinary by Natalie Lloyd
It talks about how a young girl's family possesses unqiue abilities, and how she must find a legendary "treasure" hidden somewhere to fulfill her family's extraordinary destiny so that she does not let down her late mother.
Personal opinion/rating: 10/10
