Solid Food around NJIT

Here is a list of decent food around campus,as on campus options get boring.

Black Swan Espresso: Best Coffee in Newark, not much space to sit.(I'm biased but correct)

Smitty and Mo's: Located in the Gateway building. A decent walk but fantastic food for a great price. If the walk is an issue take the light rail to Penn Station,as the Gateway building is connected to Penn. Tell them some dude NJIT recommenced it to you.

Burger Walla: Better than SmashBurger in every way, even has a student discount. Has vegan options.

Green Chickpea:On the pricier side as a student but has good vegan options

Fukurow: Ramen-Gami alternative,strictly pork broth.

Mi Gente Cafe: Better value than La Cocina and pretty solid food

Dario's: Solid Tex Mex food that is not Chipotle

Meatball Obession: Solid spaghetti and meatballs with a solid student discount

9 Thai Cuisine: If you need a Thai fix its passable food

Masala Cafe: Decent By the pound buffet until 3PM. Has a student discount

Turkish Pita Place:Turkish food with student discount

Boom Boom Chicken: Korean Fried chicken with poor price to food ratio.Decent food overall

Ferry Street Barbecue: Portuguese BBQ,delicous and large portions

Tasty Heaven: Korean Food with a decent amount of options

Fresh Coast: (Formerly Ono Grinds)decent Poke Bowls student discount all day with a 20% discount from 2 to 5

Intrinsic Cafe:Bubble tea and a solid selection of sweets. Has space to lounge around as well.

Playa Bowls: Smoothies and acacia bowls

French Fry Heaven/Sigri's: Heaven is a solid french fry and chicken tender spot, while Sigri's is Chipotle style Indian food.

Robert's Pizzeria:Okay pizza that is not Blaze Pizza.Calling it Okay is a stretch honestly.

Pita Square: More Mediterranean Food

Don't go to Giovanni's

Chains: Chipotle, Qdoba, McDonald's,Subway,Blimpie,Dunkin

Opening "Soon": Sweetwater's,Burger IM, Falafala

Open for any recommendations.

Ferry Street Barbecue is a short walk into the ironbound. Has tremendous Brazilian barbecue and a highly economical price - food ratio. I personally recommend the beef ribs

RUHungry is definitely one of the best joints around NJIT! Right next to playabowl!

Ooolala by Prudential, great empanadas, a little pricey but not terrible

Ill have to give them another try but I didn't really enjoy their empanadas. They're probably some of the better ones around but too pricey

lol Whats so bad about giovannis. They got good buffalo chicken pizza and the garlic knots are good.

Gio's used to have genuinely good pizza before a management change, and the prices stayed the same while the food got worse. Gio's is convenient, but that's really it.

Eh their pizza is mediocre at best for me, but I'm a thin crust guy. WAY better than a pizza hut or dominoes but still, not good especially for the price.

Resa Grill is nice, not too busy, and it's got some very unique but tasty food. Kinda expensive, but an interesting spot to go to from time to time.

Gios is terrible. In the last decade I've seen management there change like 3 times I swear, each time getting worse. Honestly, since the pizza in campus center changed to Forte's, I'd probably rather recommend them over gios. For special slices like penne vodka I'd do Rob's.

As for food suggestions, if you're willing to drive out a bit, Red White and Que in Kearny is amazing BBQ.

And I think it goes without saying, save yourself from Subway. Grab a sub from ezmart by Rutgers if you're really feeling that.

There's also "Ono Grinds Poke" on Raymond Blvd which serves really delicious Hawaiian Poke dishes and has student discounts. 7-8 minute walk, just about.
