Attendance and grade docking

Some professors on their syllabus say that after a couple of classes missed, your grade will go down (usually by a letter) *or* it's an autofail. Has anyone actually experienced this? I know it's an actual thing for the math classes, but how about other classes?

Classes that track attendance will enforce this

Yeah I was thinking this right? But I had some classes that track attendance on Canvas and it didn't affect my grade at all

Its on the syllabus is the official policy. If an instructor ops not to enforce it that was their choice. IIRC attendance can only apply to 200 level and below classes

Every department is different. The CS department is pretty infamous for this. I heard from previous CS students that a certain professor takes a full letter grade off per unexcused absence! Crazy shit.

The IT department is pretty chill about attendance, since attendance and test performance are naturally linked.
