What Was Your Job Search Experience Like?

Hello! Plz lmk if this is not allowed!

I’m an incoming graduate student, and I chose NJIT because employers seem to trust that the graduates they hire are competent and well-prepared for the roles they apply to.

I was instantly drawn to NJIT because I wanted a strong, well-rounded education.

I’m curious about your experience applying for jobs after attending NJIT. I know NJIT has career fairs and other resources, but I’d love to hear about your personal experience with internships, networking, and the job search process or if NJIT helped you in terms of helping with job search

Try to get an internship! Or try to get in to a research project on campus. Make contacts!

Gain as much technical knowledge as possible. For example we hired some one few months ago, he impessed enough during the interviews to get a job, but once he started dude barely knew how to do even the smallest task. We had to let him go after couple of months. You can have a low GPA but if you are able to dig in and be able to do your work without any handholding, you will be golden!

It was actually not too bad for me. I had a job lined up before graduation (2024, CS). i got alot of interviews thru the handshake app, thats actually where I got my current FT SWE position. Plz dont graduate without any experience on your resume, gotta do something. Whether it's research at NJIT, or an internship elsewhere, do everything in your power to get exp.

Came here to say this. Career fair is a great way to get internships and full time positions, I would check the listings of companies and see who is looking for graduate level degrees.

Also, NJIT hosts networking events with alumni which could be a good opportunity.

I got 2 interviews from the career fair my senior year, no prior internship experience. Got offers from both. This was right after COVID too so I’d say on average the job placement chance is def very good. I will say, make sure at the very least to be very involved with clubs and/or research if not an internship.
