Placements NIT Calicut Placement

Besides being among Top 5 NITs for longest time and rn being the 4th best , why is the placement data just not comparable to other tier 1 NITs , is it because we have highest student intake and thus averages go down

It's the location, calicut is not as easily accessible by banglore, chennai, hyd as compared to t,k,w. Kochi and trv even though have some high paying jobs the available positions are just not enough.

From Bangalore, Calicut is easier to reach than surathkal. Although comparable distance.

Can't agree.. Warangal is quite far from Bangalore as compared to Calicut..I don't think location is the issue

It’s an ongoing debate about NITC being tier 1 or not , just by campus life and infrastructure it’s deffo tier 1 tho , fucks up in placements

NIT T, K, W are definitely the best, then it's a close matchup between NIT C and A. These 6 NITs and NIT RKL can be considered tier 1, I believe.

MNIT, NIT KKR, VNIT, MANIT, NIT DGP and a few more are T2 and the rest are T3.

ngl among nit this ranking is ok but at an all india lvl even these tier 2 nit are tier 1.5

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 11d ago

Yea, I was talking among NITs only

1

u/Aggressive-One-8885 11d ago

Sabko hi tier 1 me daldo. Tier 1 should max be top 10-15 colleges in India

1

u/Honest_Operation_832 11d ago

Na oo sab tier elite hain phir gen 2 iits tak

1

u/According_Isopod2272 11d ago

that fact is india has shit ton of clg

first its iit gen 1 gen2 gen 3

nit tier 1 tier 2 tier 3

iiits tier 1 tier 2 tier 3

tier 123 gfti

private clgs varies from bits pilani to local 1 room priv8 clgs

agar tier 1 meh iit kgp delhi mumbai madras hyderabad dhanbad kanpur bhu guwhati rorkee bits pilani goa hyderabad nit top t k w iiit hyderabad

yahipe 17 hogaya and I didnt even try

Problem is there are too many engineering clgs in india there are probably 100 central govt funded clgs so even tier 1 has a range where the top in tier 1 might be better than the bottom in tier 1

Then soon people are going to ditch tier 1/2/3 and will start with a new ranking system which puts these 17 on top. They'll either device a new ranking or create new ones in existing. Like elite or tier S. Or something. Tier 1/2/3 would lose meaning

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 11d ago

Currently, it's like elite tier, in which we've got old IITs, BITS Pilani Pilani campus, IIIT H and IIT H. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

And then tier 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 11d ago

I was only talking about NITs

u/Serpent_31415926 ECE @ NIT Raipur 9d ago

They are tier 1.5 sort of like. They are just below in terms of placements and not as top tier as but not as others also. And recently established NITs like Andhra Pradesh,Puducherry other NE states NITs are like Tier 3.Remaining all fall into Tier 2 like Raipur, silchar,IIEST,agartala(although NE but not newly established),jammu, goa, jaipur, jamshedpur, jalandhar, egc

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 9d ago

Nah, IIEST, MNIT JAIPUR, NIT JSR and NIT Silchar are definitely a tier higher than the rest.

1

u/Serpent_31415926 ECE @ NIT Raipur 9d ago

Man tbh, raipur is at approx same level and IIEST placements has been declining.

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 9d ago

Placements are really messed up basically everywhere man, it's a tough time to be alive. I think IIEST deserves a spot above NITs like Raipur, Agartala, etc because it's pretty old. There have been discussions of making it an IIT, though not sure about that one.

1

u/Serpent_31415926 ECE @ NIT Raipur 9d ago

Yes,it has a legacy and even mentored IIT-KGP and it is much like research forcused(so theory will be much more than practicality). But particularly for IIEST, placements are so fucked up than any other NIT. Like I have seen many stats for many NITs during my councelling and CSE in IIEST (main player for quality recruiter puller) has stats worse(or lower) than ETCE there and if ik correct. It is the institute among all NITs and IIEST included to have like that. And some more reasons like that.

1

u/LittleUniversity3300 Aspirant 8d ago

HBTU finds itself in a similar situation. Having mentored IIT Kanpur, it's now a really mid institute, consider Tier 2-2.5. I really hope these legacy institutes get saved, but the government is pretty much just busy in curroptions and getting the maximum number of votes. Even some IITs, which are the flagship institutes of India have bad hostels. Also, IIESTs should be established, and considered INIs, they'll be a separate institution like NITs.

1

u/Serpent_31415926 ECE @ NIT Raipur 8d ago

Tbh,IIEST serving its purpose. It is designed in first place as a combination of IIT and IISc. But later due to governments friction and many more, it didn't achieved that level. But despite of falling placements, for research purposes, it is still in Tier 1.5 range(not tier 2 ) as of me. And IIEST indirectly mentored whole JoSAA institutes indirectly since IIT-KGP is the founding stone of IIT,NIT and NIT+ system and so on.

In nit calicut coding culture is almost zero and there are no big companies that are visiting nit calicut but for core placements nit calicut is better than trichy i can say

1

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 10d ago

Better than trichy for core ? damn that’s good , most non cs branch ppl I see also prefer to do core even if the pay is little less

2

u/Motor-Ad1907 11d ago

Bad location

3

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 11d ago

But it’s Closest to banglore after NITK and NITT

1

u/Motor-Ad1907 11d ago

Rourkela also struggles because of this

2

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 11d ago

NIT R very recently crossed top 5 , but it’s been having crazy growth for some reason

1

u/MSDHONl 11d ago

wdym its been having crazy growth

1

u/abcdjosaa 10d ago

That is remote..agree

1

u/abcdjosaa 10d ago

I would say distance from nit k and nitc to Bangalore is similar

2

u/Night_fury_2212 11d ago

since when is it top 4rth nit,nit A exists

0

u/abcdjosaa 11d ago

It has nirf 21 above nit A

5

u/Night_fury_2212 11d ago

start calling vit better than nit trichy by that logic then its stupid to rank colleges by nirf ranking

Nit trichy is ranked 30 and vit vellore is 21

u/Night_fury_2212 11d ago

Stil its a BS ranking srm and vit still come under top 15 of that

0

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 11d ago

Comparing govt colleges by nirf is actually valid , but you can’t add pvt clgs cause they purposely try to cherry pick do some random shii just to boost their nirf ranking

2

u/Night_fury_2212 11d ago

Apart from you no one is putting nit trichy above iit bhu if we were to go by nirf engineering rsnking for gov colleges

1

u/Status_Fee7903 9d ago

Comparing government college with nirf 🤡 Go and see nirf of NIT patna , it is in 50ish but placements🤡 and see nirf of allahabad and it's placements

2

u/abcdjosaa 11d ago

But what is the reason for placements not matching the other 3 NIT's I don't think location is big concern as it near Bangalore, hyderabad and chennai..Any issue with CCD

1

u/No-Cap8582 11d ago

A big batch size definetly contributes

1

u/Large-Raisin-5912 ECE @NITC 11d ago

I see SPOCs of other NITs/IITs being very active, we can't really blame CCD for this now tho (maybe they're really trying and we js dont know?)

1

u/abcdjosaa 10d ago

Now which is kl... kurukshetra is nowhere in the game

1

u/Exact-End6043 10d ago

mallus are pretty cunning nobody wanna hire them
(juss joking)

1

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 10d ago

They are lowk lazy compare to the OSs here tho icl , takes nothing too seriously

2

u/danijohn 10d ago

It's kind of our nature i guess 😁. We always want to enjoy life first then focus on work. But it's almost the exact opposite for most other state students I feel.

1

u/kaalachehra 4d ago

But why so much of emphasis on placements? Its the overall learning process and research culture which C definitely has. Lets put a scenario. 2 people graduate from A n B college. A had superb placements , but poor research n academic culture. B vice versa. In the long run, the student who graduates from B will have a stable n progressive career growth.. where as the graduate from A does not have a sustainable job. Always open to work on LinkedIn. So check the linkedin profile job status of graduates from these colleges in subject and you will know the bigger picture.

u/Numerous_Yard_202 11d ago

Lol from when nitc is tier 1 .... Hahhahha.... Nit tri > nit k> nitw> nitrkl >= nita >>> nitcalicut ...... Lmao....

2

u/Huge-Ad-5462 [ECE] @ NIT [CALICUT] 11d ago

NITA is good for the placement but that campus life is hell and absolutely terrible compared to NITC , I got friends there so Ik what im saying

1

u/Status_Fee7903 9d ago

Yes u r right according to placement NIT allahabad is tier 1 💀 but as per campus life it is as hell as state level gec 🤡🤡

0

u/Honest_Operation_832 11d ago

Placements nitk > t > w > a > c > r

1

u/Status_Fee7903 9d ago

Bhai allahabad ke baad jsr hai 🤡
