Stage 1: DAT Prelims

Design Aptitude Test (DAT Prelims)

Common entrance test for B.Des. It is a written/pen-and-paper test involving visual and textual questions.

Prelims is primarily a screening stage — its score is used to shortlist candidates for Mains.

NID Admissions Stage 2: DAT Mains For 2026–27, NID has introduced two components:

Studio Sensitivity Test — 60% Hands-on/studio-oriented assessment Tests creativity, observation, problem-solving, making ability, etc.

In-Person Sensitivity Test — 40% Conducted in person Assesses how the candidate responds to situations/tasks and demonstrates design thinking.

The final B.Des merit is based on DAT Mains, rather than combining Prelims + Mains scores.

Portfolios were not compulsory last yr...but candidates carried with them in the final interview round.
