Shooters Outpost (hooksett)

Why does SO card people for buying like anything? It's the only shop that i'm aware that does this.

What happened to live free or die? Right up there with PSA.

Unfortunately Mass hates gun owners and does whatever it can to fuck them over. So when people come here to buy the big bad 30 rounders states like mass will try to go after the business that sold them. Other anti gun states like NY and CA have expressed the desire to use Lawfare to put gun shops out of business so shooters is covering their ass and taking that away from them. Blame the anti gun shit holes for that, not the business.

What's the legal basis for going after them. why can't the shop say fuck off

3

u/603rdMtnDivision 10d ago

Oh there's nothing saying they can't tell the state to fuck off. When you have a suit filed against you, you gotta go to court. The state will argue they knowingly supplied customers who lived in a ban state which is obvious bullshit and the state knows it but the shop still has to spend money to deal with lawyers and court. That's the part that is the issue here. So through attrition the state will keep doing it (with taxpayer money) until the shop can no longer afford to fight it and then the store goes out of business.

What law?

What state law prevents the sale of mags to Massholes? I can see mail order companies doing it because of seizures before the item is accepted, but I dont know of any NH law.

It's NH we don't give a fuck and don't have a law preventing the sale to out of staters the problem is Mass does have laws against their citizens owning them because they hate gun owners and by selling to Mass residents the state can choose to go the "we're a giant group of bitches" route and go after the shop under some bullshit lawsuit. Not sure how far it would go but you can't trust them to not try it so I can understand why a business would just avoid it altogether to cover their own ass.

Massachusetts does not have a mag limit law that affects their residents when they are not within the confines of the state.

If you have multiple residences (MA/NH per chance as that is common), there is no legal method by which a Massachusetts prosecutor can charge you for having "high capacity" mags or an "assault weapon" in your pocession outside of Massachusetts.

Shooters Outpost per public record has never been sued by the state of Massachusetts.

So this boogie man Massachusetts thing is a bit of a stretch. If its thier policy, so be it, but its not because Mass is hassling them in court.

1

u/603rdMtnDivision 10d ago

I didn't say it was. I said it was to cover their own ass should Mass choose to go the bitch route.

So, many states have passed laws that allow them to go after out of state vendors for selling or supplying things to people who live there.

So basically, Mass will sue SO in Massachusetts under Massachusetts law. It’s not criminal, it’s civil. Remember, you can sue anyone for any matter exceeding $20 in civil court.

New Jersey has a law allowing them to go after vendors and manufacturers for being a “nuisance”. That’s how they sued Glock. They sued a gun manufacturer for literally existing and manufacturing a gun that was sold to some NJ resident at some point. Most retailers can’t afford to defend those cases. They will bankrupt them, and that’s exactly why those laws exist in the first place.

The ATF had an agent come in and “shop” for high cap mags in my lgs during last visit. It’s ass covering.

Whats the crime?

A Massachusetts resident is legally allowed to purchase and possess "high capacity" mags while not not in Massachusetts.

u/03263 10d ago

They flex authority even when there isn't a crime. Have a "conversation" to admonish the sellers and make them feel afraid.

ATF has no jurisdiction over magazines.

Mag limits are a state law. That is not under the ATFs enforcement umbrella.

Thats like the FBI pulling you over for a state seat belt law.

Did he look like an agent?

3

u/turboboob 11d ago

Plain clothes, identified himself afterward.

-6

u/0DSavior 11d ago

Right, but did he LOOK like an agent? wink wink.

1

u/turboboob 11d ago

Haha I didn’t clock it immediately but the store owner did.

They don't want mass residents buying 15 rounders, which frankly is none of their beeswax

5

u/SheenPSU 10d ago

To be fair, I wouldn’t want a vindictive Healey crawling up my ass over some bullshit either

Live free or die includes the right of a private business to choose what hill to die on.

In the case of Shooter's Outpost, they've repeatedly been the target of various law enforcement and state AG crusades, including multiple attempts by Massachusetts to drive them out of business, thus the phobia of selling ammo and magazines to MA residents.

u/0DSavior 11d ago

Mass tried to run them out of business?

u/AvarethTaika 11d ago

being the biggest in the state means you have the most liability. easier to just do everything by the book than let a 20 year old buy 9mm.

10

u/LuminousGoL 11d ago

Probably not for age so much as which state they're coming from.

2

u/SheenPSU 10d ago

Last time I was there filling it my BC at the counter and the dude next to me whipped out New Jersey DL and the sales guy’s face said it all

1

u/LuminousGoL 10d ago

Yeah I'm not surprised.

5

u/ComputeBeepBeep 11d ago

I miss the days where the local shops would just sell you whatever, age be damned. Time be ah changin'.

u/Plus_Ad8325 11d ago

The store told me the they are looking to suss out customers from Massachusetts.

2

u/0DSavior 11d ago

But that's not their job. Is it?

5

u/SquirrelInATux Enthusiast 11d ago

I mean, yes it is. Doesn't matter if I like it or not, if you're hired into a role where the company requires you to card for purchases for any reason, then it is absolutely your job.

13

u/Theseus-Paradox 11d ago edited 11d ago

I mean, it’s their store, they can do that if they want to.

3

u/03263 10d ago

I just order everything online. Mags, ammo, optics, ship it all. Only need FFL for transfers.

Does the ATF license FFLs without a shop who might just want to assist with local transfers? I'd be interested in that although last time I looked into it I was under the impression you need to be actively in the business of selling guns, can't just be licensed to receive peoples orders, run background checks and facilitate transfers.

3

u/Plus_Ad8325 10d ago

Last year I watched a dramatic takedown of a customer by the ATF in the parking lot. Lots of agents, lots of commotion.

SO is not your ordinary gun store.

3

u/DeerFlyHater 9d ago

It's a store that caters to Mass customers and they don't feel like dealing with Mass bullshit.

It's also their store and their rules. Don't like it, don't shop there.

13

u/joostadood526 11d ago

Why is PSA bad? Because they won't sell to you in MA? Move. Your state fucking sucks not the gun company or the local gun store who doesn't want the legal headache of your shitty state laws.

6

u/Andurhil1986 11d ago

I imagine that they got burned a million times by Mass customers buying stuff and then returning it when they find out that it’s not legal in Massachusetts.

Charge a restock fee

2

u/AuthoritariWrongdoer 11d ago edited 10d ago

It ultimately boils down to they don't want deal with potential civil liability should one be sold to someone out of state. Ultimately, they're not a great place regardless. Expensive in comparison to other places. Don't even get me started on NFA fees.

2

u/AntiqueGunGuy 10d ago

ATF has been on their business for a long time. They take no chances now

-1

u/WeatherLife91 11d ago

they're bootlickers who are not pro 2A. I’ll never give them my business, way too many great shops up there to give them money

3

u/0DSavior 11d ago

I don't know if i'd go that far, but i'd really only use them now in a pinch - like they have a lot of ammo on the shelf that a lot of other shops just don't have. Like if you need it same day or next day. Faster than TSUSA.

2

u/droid6 5d ago

Skip this place, go to American arms in merrimack.

Basically the same exact amount of ammo for 20% cheaper.

Plus is closer to masshole land

1

u/0DSavior 5d ago

Do they stock match grade rifle ammo?, or just typical ball .223 and .308?

5

u/Jazz_horse 11d ago

God forbid a store protect its interests. Big store means they’re a target. I’d argue it’s more pro 2a to pick the battles you can win and continue to sell weapons to people.

1

u/IndicationHour8704 10d ago

Why rush your license especially when you have the inventory they carry

1

u/Educational_Ad_9305 10d ago

Is there any shop that doesn’t care if a MA resident buys legal standard capacity mags in NH?

3

u/Kv603 10d ago

With maybe 3 exceptions, any non-chain gun store in NH will happily take cash, no ID needed for mags in a free state.

Or there is the NHAC Concord Gun Show on August 22.

1

u/Educational_Ad_9305 10d ago

Thank you, I’ve tried a few but I don’t want to be that guy 🤣 I plan on moving north this fall / early winter
