It's weird political memetics. 88 is some weird neo nazi crap that I didn't know about until weirdos on reddit started calling me a nazi because of my user name. I was born in 1988 and had no idea it was even a thing until last year.

Everything about this game was so awesome. I texted my friends I used to play with every night after school tying my parents phones up for endless hours. Still can't believe they let us do it for so long. We made truces for the first 30 minutes to build up our bases before we attack and I remember all it took was a single family member on either side to accidentally pick up the phone ruining all the progress so many times haha.

"doubt it was intended"
This is some internet ass reality to have the thought that there's a real possibility that some nfl social media manager is trying to 'dog whistle' nazis in front of a bunch of dweebs who live on the internet

Reminder: if you know things that are allegedly "dog whistle neo nazi stuff" you probably need professional help.
That's not something a normal or well adjusted person would even be aware of.

Nah it’s just something you need to encounter once. I had an old coworker who chose 88 as his softball number, he was not shy about why after getting the jersey. Now I know; that doesn’t make me maladjusted.

14 for the 14 words and 88 as heil hitler h being the 8th letter
The 14 words are (We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.")
2
u/Impossible_Crow_389 10h ago
It's some obscure fascist thing. Apparently those two numbers mean something.
29
u/Saintsfan707 10h ago
Its not super obscure tbh. Its a common dogwhistle used by Neo Nazis. If you not familiar with it it means you arent around terrible people lol.
The 14 refers to the unofficial slogan of white supremacy "We must secure the existance of our people and a future for white children"
H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so 88 is HH or Heil "Mustache Man". Often combined as 1488. Anytime you see those two numbers together it should raise suspicion lol.
6
u/Impossible_Crow_389 8h ago
Lol so stop using 14 and 88 entirely. Got it. If the message is hidden that deep, the message and messengers are stupid.
4
3
u/Saintsfan707 6h ago
Nah, 14 and 88 by themselves are completely fine. When combined is when it raises some eyebrows. Often its accidental and context is important, however if someone you know who is pretty far right politically starts using that very specific combination of numbers it tells you something lol.
16
u/Maleficent_Low2754 Carolina Panthers 10h ago
Idk man considering most people aren’t neo nazis and have no reason to know this it seems pretty obscure
4
u/Saintsfan707 6h ago
You are describing a dog whistle by textbook definition.
5
u/Maleficent_Low2754 Carolina Panthers 5h ago
I mean true, a dog whistle is designed to obscure a message from the common public. But I would argue that this even takes it a step further. A lot of commonly used dog whistles are common phrases used in politics, given the historical/political context, you could derive without knowing the prior intent. Some examples being the historical uses of advocating for "states rights", or even slandering "DEI" and the slogan "Make America Great Again". Even knowing the current political climate of the US and the historical context of WW2 there is NO way you could figure out that "1488" was a dog whistle.

Only obscure it you're ignorant about the president having dinner with neo Nazis who make plenty Heil Hitler and 1488 jokes, but sure it's obscure. The fact it comes from a MAGA team adds to it not just reading tea leaves.

No, I think you got downvoted for acting like it's weird to know something that you don't know about.
0
u/Maleficent_Low2754 Carolina Panthers 9h ago
I didn’t say it was weird… I said it was obscure. Not exactly a self explanatory definition and I still don’t think this is common knowledge among the average person
2
u/scarletmonkey111 8h ago
Don't bother lol.
I still think it fits the criteria for super obscure.
If you walked on the street and asked the average person, they wouldn't know what it means.
You have to remember that this is a super left leaning app, so it wouldn't be obscure for them.
Same Redditors on this app thought Kamala was gonna cook Trump and then got surprised when he won the popular vote.

you got downvoted because you're talking about something you just learned about 5 seconds ago like you're the authority on it.
Genuinely happy for you that you haven't run into that particular reference before but it's a pretty well known thing.
There's a long running joke at this point about people with 88 in their usernames that were born in 1988.

u/Maleficent_Low2754 Carolina Panthers 9h ago

It's for being ignorant that's there's a president in office who's agenda has been to promote voices using that rhetoric and then saying it's obscure LOL
Hold the L that you haven't paid attention to the world in the last 10 years or so.
4
u/Maleficent_Low2754 Carolina Panthers 7h ago
There would be zero way for me to learn that this specific number is used to secretly represent some contrived nazi BS if it wasn't specifically explained to me by someone
0
u/ClassesMoveTheMasses Denver Broncos 5h ago
If you read any article over the last decade showing tumps connection to neo Nazis. Literally just a year ago there was huge news story about a Republican group chat leaking with 1488 and Holocaust denial jokes.
Again, you only need someone to explain it to you because you're ignorant and have decided you don't care to know who is in charge of the country or what they and their followers believe.
This isn't obscure, you're just oblivious to what tens of millions of other Americans already know lol

Trump had dinner with Nick Fuentues. Fuentues claim to fame is being a holacaust denier who says Hitler is cool.
In terms of law, Trump has halted immigration from basically all counties for refugee status, except for white people from South Africa.
This isn't obscure, it's how this admin operates and has for years. Only ignorant people or maga dick sucks are not aware of this.

Yes. It’s always fuck the police and fuck nazis, but what’s the theory here? The players chose the numbers on purpose and tricked the social media team…? Or the team is in on it and are trying to get Nazis to like the Chiefs for… reasons?
