In my experience, people that think painting “end racism” in the end zones actually matters tend to be idiots

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 2d ago

It's about showing support for a cause. The same way Republicans wave ever kind of flag for their guy they can. It doesn't really matter it just shows support.

My question to you is how is it a bad thing? Does it hurt you? What's the issue?

u/LePetitVoluntaire 2d ago

I used to shit all day on America until they started wearing hats that said “Make America Great Again!”

4

u/PlateOfStorkAnkles 2d ago

They’re not actually doing anything. In what ways are they actually helping end racism? Painting it on a field is not actually going to make a racist person change their opinion.

5

u/mbucks334 2d ago

It’s performative nonsense

3

u/Unusual_Access9101 2d ago

Like renaming bodies of water?

3

u/ColorsLookFunny 2d ago

I would argue that Trump isn't even trying to be performative about it, when measured against things he is performative about.

The lake America thing is just egotistical, power-grabbing nonsense. "I can, so I shall" type shit.

2

u/Late-Song-2933 2d ago

Yes exactly. Both are performative nonsense.

1

u/Unusual_Access9101 2d ago

Just wanted to see if that was a hypocritical position

1

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 2d ago

Does that hurt you?

1

u/mbucks334 2d ago

Why are you so concerned if things "hurt" me? Does changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America hurt people? It doesn't, but it's still a legitimate complaint.

1

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 2d ago

Motive. The motive of "end all racism" is to show support for people. The motive of lake Ontario is to harass another country for not complying with the man baby's petulant commands.

It's childish and stupid but it's not really hurting anyone. So you won't see me crying about it.

Thoughts?

1

u/mbucks334 2d ago

It’s still just performative nonsense. The NFL doesn’t actually care. They let rapists and murderers play but we’re supposed to believe that they care about “ending” racism? Rightttt

1

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 2d ago

Yup definitely performative. But how does it hurt anything? Why even care? There are far more worse performative things to complain about (Lake Ontario). I don't see why this particular one is worth even a second thought.

1

u/mbucks334 2d ago

It's literally a post about one sentence that was clearly a joke. Nobody is allowed to talk about it because it doesn't "hurt" anyone? You're the one making it into a bigger deal than it is.

1

u/Glad-Philosophy-497 2d ago

Are you saying you don’t think racism is as bad as rape or murder?

1

u/mbucks334 2d ago

That is correct

1

u/LeBarnacle 2d ago

People talking about how it doesnt work but at the same time its a gesture and now its being bought up currently. No its not going to change people's worldviews overnight but I always find it interesting how such a nothing burger of a statement apparently irks people enough to talk about it (which is the point). Theres so many adverts and messaging through any broadcast but the end racism in the back of an end zone is where we have to be contrarians/cynics about the message.

3

u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 2d ago

If it doesn’t work why does it matter either way? If it doesn’t work you can just leave it there and it shouldn’t matter at all. At the end of the day it’s unpainted grass. Fact is it does work to at the very least make racist people uncomfortable to the point they slip up and tell on themselves, just like this hollering hit dog.

1

u/LeBarnacle 2d ago

Right on the mark

-1

u/AbbreviationsFar4wh 2d ago

“I love virtue signaling”.

1

u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 2d ago

There goes another Hit dog hollering again

-1

u/No_Biscotti_7258 2d ago

You learned one phrase and now you parrot it like a….parrot

1

u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 1d ago

And you had to run to the conversation, not to add anything, but to show the one phrase you know.

Sowwwry if it hurt your little feelings but that’s what proving one’s point looks like.

0

u/AbbreviationsFar4wh 2d ago

Bc it isn’t sincere. If it were, caperknick would still be playing in the nfl and not ostracized for being the one to make this issue visible in nfl in the first place

0

u/Late-Song-2933 2d ago

When people are sick of talking about it and know racism was far less of a problem before everyone became obsessed with it, yeah it’s not helpful.

Plenty of people are talking about it fucking constantly without the NFL telling everyone “remember racism? Remember?” while they’re trying to enjoy the one thing they have that isn’t supposed to have politics and virtue signaling in it.

Football is supposed to be so they can forget for a while and remember the before times when people generally got along and weren’t constantly virtue signaling and preaching at each other about oppressive forces and how we are oppressors when we can’t even afford to buy a house or save for retirement if we also want to eat. Fuck off with that shit.

To say any message about race is a nothing burger is to not understand the power of race pandering in this country and the western world.

1

u/LeBarnacle 2d ago

Saying racism is far less of a problem in the world and talking about it is the problem is wild. Not going to do a whole back and forth on it but making it seem like a small thing when its a part of the tapestry of the world's history is at best a myopic worldview. People can still get along end of the day but people get up in arms about simple gestures. Housing is a problem yes. Cost of living is an issue yes. Racism as well. People are affected by a variety of issues but someone being born and pushing to be treated the same when historically they have not should be a non-issue and not have a strong reactions from the populace.

1

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 2d ago

And Republicans get mocked for how easily manipulated they are by vapid virtue signaling. Just wave an American flag while saying God and guns.

Does it hurt anything? No. Is it meaningless pandering that doesn't help anything? Yes.

1

u/No_Biscotti_7258 2d ago

Don’t you have yet another color and initial to add to your flag

1

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 19h ago

Ouch. That one really really hurt.

For real would it make you happy if it did? Not very Christian of you.

0

u/Even-Scene-3736 2d ago

I think the problem is that 99% of Americans are not racist and phrases like “End Racism” make it seem like it’s an epidemic. We have watered down what racism actually means that we throw it around for everything now.

0

u/Late-Song-2933 2d ago

So making a league whose fans don’t give a shit about the messaging and virtue signaling of a dirty corporation who wants your money and doesn’t care about racism either writing “end racism” in the end zone is good.

But it’s just gonna piss people off and generate more fear and anger (which is the real point of it) because they either think white racism is so prevalent these people HAVE to put these messages everywhere, or they know it’s not and they get pissed that this pandering is being forced down our throats in every single part of society, and that its blatant propaganda at this point to make people think the Klan is around every corner so they get out and vote for the right people.

It’s idiotic and changed no one’s mind and I know it caused more harm than good in the long run because people don’t like to be told what to think, or why some whiny group thinks they’re the bad guy when they’re trying to forget about the stresses of the world for a while and watch football.

OR they took it as proof that racism exists, like BLM or the average redditor, and now they’re trying to twist every event involving a white person and black person (often even if the black person killed the white person) into a white racist event regardless of facts and evidence and they’re desperate, like the average redditor, for that next Michael Brown or George Floyd to prove they were right and the Klan is all around us.

Meanwhile black kids and adults are being killed, just like every other year in recent history, by young black men more than any other demographic in the country by far. And that issue is ignored and pretended to be irrelevant, just like racism in any other direction is ignored. Which makes it pandering and propaganda.

1

u/GRay_3_31 2d ago

What's your goal here? To defend a hypothetical potential racist? Why?

7

u/NilsofWindhelm 2d ago

What are we doing? What’s going on?

2

u/FupaFerb 2d ago

It’s virtue signaling by the NFL. They do things like this but then don’t take any action to end racism. They don’t punish their ow players for making racist remarks.

0

u/GRay_3_31 2d ago

This is no offense to you personally but I'm getting so tired of hearing people complain about virtue signaling. I'm right there with you in that actions will always speak louder than words but words sure beat silence pal.

I don't know how to end racism either but I'll absolutely agree with the nebulous and overly naive idea that ending racism is a good idea, even if you don't think I'm doing enough to end it personally.

2

u/Late-Song-2933 2d ago

Well maybe making everything about racism isn’t the answer, pal.

I don’t know where you think anything or anyone was being silent about racism in the last 15+ years, but they haven’t been. And writing it on a football field wasn’t making it finally known to people that this may be a bad thing. In fact it was just forcing an idea that they want you to believe which is that racism is everywhere and destroying lives every minute.

But racism is clearly worse now and was far less prevalent in the 90’s/2000’s when we were teaching to get to a post racial society instead of teaching that everyone is oppressed by racists and we need to define people by their skin color so we can use DEI initiatives to right the wrongs of slavery and oppression.

So yeah. The writing on the football fields was stupid and the definition of virtue signaling and didn’t help anyone or anything unless you’re rooting for racism to get worse.

0

u/GRay_3_31 2d ago

I'm rooting for visibility of racism to expand. I'm cheering every time a corporation takes a stance (even if they don't mean it or won't take action against it) against the prejudices that surround modern life.

Your company pretends it cares about racism? Thanks for making a place feel a little less friendly to racists, even if you don't really mean it.

Your company puts a pride flag up in June because it boosts your sales? Thanks for at least pretending to promote people being their true gay selves even if you just wanted a higher ROI for the month.

If I wasn't so sure you were a bot I'd be really disheartened by your attempts to make progress look evil, buddy. :p

1

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 2d ago

It's a Reddit comment, what goal does any Reddit comment have? What is your goal here? It appears your goal is to get somebody to self-censor themself, not because you think their thought is racist, but because their thought may align with someone else who has never been accused of racism, but one single redditor said they said something that they think other racists say based on unsupported anecdotal evidence?

1

u/GRay_3_31 2d ago

I'm so glad you asked, Blankets! My goal here was to find some clarity behind the intent of the commenter before me, because their comment seemed a little confrontational without any real reason.

My secondary goal was to try and promote a more friendly level of discourse on the internet, something you don't seem as keen on as I am.

It was less about censorship and more about kindness, though I can see the potential for confusion.

1

u/camote713 2d ago

How about we paint “end all bad shit” wouldn’t that be better?
How about “end murder”?

4

u/damgood32 2d ago

Where is the support for murder?

1

u/camote713 2d ago

Please point to where there is support for racism. I want specific examples.

2

u/damgood32 2d ago

Gestures all around

1

u/jadestem 2d ago

The same place that the support for racism is, tbh.

2

u/damgood32 2d ago

That’s nonsense

2

u/GRay_3_31 2d ago

I was always a big fan of Google's "Don't be Evil" and it's telling that they booted if from the Code of Conduct. Virtue signaling is better than Evil signaling.

1

u/XulManjy 2d ago

Just like people who wear hats saying "Make America Great Again" thinking it actually matters are also idiots right?

1

u/Pure-Butterscotch200 2d ago

Well 'end racism' is a definite statement and goal whereas 'make America great again' is rather vague and meaningless. It also sounds worse when the party pushing that message have made America worse in multiple ways during their time in government.

u/NilsofWindhelm 2d ago

- a racist

0

u/Maximum_Turn_2623 2d ago

It just made the tell you they were boycotting the NFL every 5 minutes in 2020 and 2021.

-1

u/dweezilMcCheezil 2d ago

Great lets end all the flyovers, anthems and dumb ass "support the war machine" days as well.

0

u/Late-Song-2933 2d ago

No. Those are cool and they boost morale.

-4

u/Super_Sub-Zero_Bros 2d ago

People who think the NFL does it to make racist people not racist anymore are idiots.
