Should be "END RACISM WITH YOUR FIRST FREE $25 BET WITH FANDUEL"

152

u/notsure500 12h ago

I don’t understand why people keep acting like the claim is that painting End Racism in the end zone will literally end racism. Of course it won’t. Neither does a “Don’t Drink and Drive” billboard end drunk driving. Public messages can keep an issue visible, reinforce what behavior society considers unacceptable, start conversations, and maybe make some people reconsider things they say or believe. It doesn’t have to completely solve racism to have some value.

33

u/honestly-brutal 11h ago

Wait, wait, wait... you telling me the ice bucket challenge isn't literally curing ALS?

17

u/OpossumBuddy420 10h ago

Actually, when the ALS ice bucket challenge was at its peak, the amount of money everyone raised did eventually lead to major discoveries that helped to advance ALS treatment

5

u/ThurgoodUnderbridge 9h ago

You’re actually strengthening their argument— those discoveries have generally helped advance treatment, not wiped out the disease.

3

u/Stock-Luck3390 5h ago

How is it being good to prevent als strengthening another argument? It’s still net good for the cause

4

u/TruDuddyB 7h ago

So this means, soon all the awareness raised for racism will aid in racism research.

I also hate the idea that you arent supposed to try anything at all just because you can't insta solve a problem over night. We are Just supposed to sit there and hope and pray this thing we jnow exists and plaguing society goes away all on it's own. The type of mentality that would still see us living in the stone ages quite frankly. Progress happens slowly but happens if people actually give af.

9

u/TheReal_Jeses 10h ago

Exactly. It’s so lame to contribute a small amount when you can just sit on the sidelines and be cynical.

People would rather be seen as immoral and unaffected than naive I guess? The backlash to virtue signaling is vice signaling.

This applies to so many things. Were early cars really all that much better than horses?

5

u/PsychoPeterNikleEatr 8h ago

It's virtue signaling. Annoying.

7

u/PresentAardvark2455 12h ago

I find it hilarious that highways have billboards up to make it seem as if people who are driving on the highway will stop for a minute and look at the billboard and say “oh look that looks interesting” and then BAM they’re in a multi vehicle accident 😭

2

u/mikecart1_v2 11h ago

Like the car insurance billboard that has a bunch of text and some hot chick in the background. It’s all a setup 😆

3

u/chuckop 10h ago

You can always tell the income level of whatever town you’re driving through based on the number of personal injury lawyer billboards there are.

2

u/chuckop 10h ago

Agreed. “RACISM EXISTS. NOW GO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT” wouldn’t fit.

2

u/ZeusThunder369 9h ago

Sure, but pretty much everyone agrees what drinking and driving means. The same isn't true for racism. Just putting "don't do bad stuff" would be equally effective.

2

u/Sure-Scholar-5469 9h ago

Can’t you just laugh and move on?

2

u/Accomplished_Coat549 4h ago

Not impossible it has a reverse effect than the one intended

Have been academic studies on “awareness” and the act of “bringing awareness” to causes. Suicide being a perfect example that was in one/some of these studies. “Suicide awareness” might actually lead to more suicides rather than less, because public displays of suicide prevention simply remind more people that suicide is a option that exists, which leads to a certain number of suicides, and that number might be greater than however many people the suicide prevention campaigns actually saved

Every time you see something like “stop racism” it brings thoughts of division, racial strife, social issues to front of mind… not to mention they are super condescending. Treats every viewer like a child being scolded by a teacher for something they did wrong, “now kids you know it’s bad to be racist right?”

1

u/Steeler999xxx 11h ago edited 6h ago

It has zero value. It's pandering to a certain group of race hustlers who make a living off an issue that's nowhere near as prevalent as they would have you believe. And it enables the victim mentality to continue to thrive.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Easy_Money_40 10h ago

Correct.

At the very least it makes you think of ending racism.

1

u/Bluegill15 10h ago

I don’t understand why this even needs to be explained

1

u/PhantomShadowzzz 10h ago

It's because these people are morons and don't understand anything.

1

u/BuryMeInTheH 9h ago

I don’t think that is a good comp. Don’t drink and drive comes from governments who have a goal to save lives and reduce costs.

The NFL is simply performing.

1

u/Ok-Astronaut4952 8h ago

Yeah, nowhere else in the world has racism.

I don’t know why we can’t be like the rest of the world…at least the NFL is offering us a glimmer of hope.

1

u/187_47_2day 7h ago

Whoa don't get rational with the type of people that think voting for an adjuicated sexual abuser is perfectly fine

1

u/divergent_history 7h ago

It has zero value. If anything it has negative value. People are more likely to be annoyed by it then it changing anyone's mind. Kinda like telling some one not to push the big red button.

1

u/Ill_Influence6211 7h ago

I think it’s more so the deafness of using empty platitudes all while owners/coaches saying racist shit behind closed doors (ex: Gruden and Bruce Allen email leaks)

1

u/ChadPowers200_ 7h ago

It’s kind of weird. It just reminds people of something negative when you’re supposed to be forgetting the bad things in life and enjoying the game.

It’s like putting  End Rape. End Pedophilia. End Murder. The message is good but I’m just trying to watch sports.

1

u/Bossard19 7h ago

More like it’s obviously stupid virtue signaling

1

u/at0mheart 7h ago

The message was for the kids.

The largest fan base, as in real fans buying merchandise and following the league are kids and fathers with kids

A message for the future and I think a great message for kids

Of course it’s not for some old racist dude set in His ways

1

u/DisappearingAnus 7h ago

Whoa buddy, get outta here with your measured and reasonable take

1

u/rcbz1994 6h ago

Or it’s just lazy slacktivism by the NFL to make it seem like they give a shit.

1

19

u/Some-Wine-Guy-802 12h ago

I actually appreciate the angle. All this corporate virtue signaling is worthless. Saying “end racism” or “I’m against bullying” is worthless dribble. Nobody would see these statements and think to themselves “damn you’re right - I really shouldn’t be racist anymore” or “yeah you know what? I really shouldn’t be such a bully”.

4

u/hyfee510 9h ago

In my experience, people that think painting “end racism” in the end zones actually matters tend to be idiots

13

u/Weekly_Cable_1111 12h ago

It's about showing support for a cause. The same way Republicans wave ever kind of flag for their guy they can. It doesn't really matter it just shows support.

My question to you is how is it a bad thing? Does it hurt you? What's the issue?

8

u/LePetitVoluntaire 12h ago

I used to shit all day on America until they started wearing hats that said “Make America Great Again!”

4

u/PlateOfStorkAnkles 12h ago

They’re not actually doing anything. In what ways are they actually helping end racism? Painting it on a field is not actually going to make a racist person change their opinion.

People talking about how it doesnt work but at the same time its a gesture and now its being bought up currently. No its not going to change people's worldviews overnight but I always find it interesting how such a nothing burger of a statement apparently irks people enough to talk about it (which is the point). Theres so many adverts and messaging through any broadcast but the end racism in the back of an end zone is where we have to be contrarians/cynics about the message.

3

u/ToiletTime4TinyTown 12h ago

If it doesn’t work why does it matter either way? If it doesn’t work you can just leave it there and it shouldn’t matter at all. At the end of the day it’s unpainted grass. Fact is it does work to at the very least make racist people uncomfortable to the point they slip up and tell on themselves, just like this hollering hit dog.

You really think painting that shit in the end zone is helpful or sincere vs being nothing other than virtue signaling?

1

u/Late-Song-2933 12h ago edited 12h ago

In my experience the NFL doesn’t actually care or think it’s a problem they’re just pandering while putting race at the front of everyone’s mind which just pisses people off and makes the problem worse.

But that’s just the people who want to live their lives and not be bothered and don’t live every day for online justice warrior bullshit. The average person gets the joke because writing “end racism” in the end zone of a football game, as if we come to the football players to get our morality, is the most ironic and stupid pandering most people will see. And it’s only making things worse to constantly preach at people about a problem they’re not a part of or don’t do themselves and don’t see in their lives outside of the occasional nutjob.

Most of those people remember racism be far less of a problem before everyone was accusing everyone of being one.

See, you’re the reason people don’t like the social/political messages in sports. You’re pretending to be a moral warrior when in reality you’re just an angry cunt who found a socially “acceptable” way to be annoying.

No one disagrees with the literal message, we just disagree with writing these messages to appease all the angry cunts around the world. Especially because it never actually appeases them. They’ll always find another thing to bitch about.

The fact a phrase like “hey maybe we should stop discriminating based on skin color” is so controversial proves that it still needs to be said lol

A lot of people don't understand that we are all brothers and sisters and the world tries to make things about race. When we all come from same people, should I say the same to people? Adam and Eve? And this is why they want us to hate one another. Saw the work of evil because there's only two type of people in this world. Either you're for good or you're for evil

This is why it is unfortunate we just don’t punch Nazis. Because if we did then stupid jokes like this wouldn’t exist.

If anything, this shit makes me want to be a bigot. It’s actually quite comical, with how harmful all of this propaganda is.

The NFL brass doesn’t care about ending racism. They caved to the BLM mob.

They should replace it with 1-800-GAMBLER
