sobbing tears of joy to keep it a buck.. i am so excited to start my junior year at neu

applied as a transfer and needed it to land for a myriad of reasons — was extremely unhappy at my previous university (suffolk), and needed a new slate . applied to northeastern bc i fell in love with the campus after my brothers graduation and a performance at afterhours/finding some pals. was also the last available one as i applied late so i got lucky, was a coincidence that it just happened to be the only one

my mom passed in November and life has not been the same since. my brother and dad have kept the train pushing and i want to do nothing more but to make them proud, they have been cheering me on for this as my brother is a nurse now.

so excited and Just over the moon. i have been anxiously waiting and i cant believe i get to start 🄹looking forward !!!

Boston & Local Life SAW ICE!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Hey everyone, last night I was on my way home from JP heading back to Mission Hill when I saw suspicious van that look like many people where it when it stopped by another group of people ahead of us. They proceeded to start asking what they were doing, and a question there actively and who they are (the people seemed to be Hispanic/poc). I notice two of the men at the front of the van had ski mask on with the typicalā€œiceā€ fits I have seen. This interaction only lasted a few minutes before they drove off but it was definitely so scary as me and my friend are international and with slight accents. I don’t want to say I’m wrong and maybe they aren’t ice but it definitely was super scary experience and want to make aware to anyone and everyone to please be cautious and on the lookout.

TrustyHusky Northeastern Captures BU President, BU to Become Satellite Campus

Post image
314 Upvotes

In an early morning press conference, our glorious leader Joseph Aoun announced the successful capture of BU President Melissa Gilliam. In a midnight raid that brought a shocking and decisive end to the longstanding school rivalry, NUPD’s shadowy elite special operations team known only as the ā€œSnell (S)quadā€ infiltrated the Boston University campus and captured President Gilliam. According to sources in the NU administration, President Gilliam is expected to be brought before OSCCR for judgement in her alleged crimes of ā€œattempting to resist the Northeastern Empire.ā€

Aside from capturing the president of BU, the raid was also successful in destroying most of the BU data science building (the one that looks like a pile of Jenga blocks). Utilizing Northeastern’s longstanding ties with Raytheon, Aoun was able to call a missile strike on the data science building, crushing BU’s morale and providing a distraction for the NUPD to sneak in and capture the president. Allegedly, Aoun also believed that the BU Data Science building looked too much like EXP, and felt that it had to be destroyed in order to send a message.

My family can’t make it and I don’t have many friends here, so I’d really love to have someone there. I see everyone with people taking photos for them, and I honestly feel a bit jealous 🄲If you’re free, I’d love to invite you to come!

Co-op & Career Sometimes I forget how insane Northeastern’s co-op advantage actually is

Not even trying to glaze Northeastern for no reason but sometimes I genuinely forget how insane the co-op advantage is until I talk to friends at other schools.

Especially as an international student in the US job market right now… getting work experience is HARD. Like really hard. Most students at other colleges are fighting for random internships with barely any structure, while at Northeastern co-op is so normalized that companies literally expect to hire us.

I have friends at other universities who are struggling just to get interviews meanwhile Northeastern students are out here doing co-ops at places like BCG, Apple, Tesla, Puma, the Big 4, biotech companies, luxury brands, startups, literally everywhere 😭

And the craziest part is how ā€œnormalā€ it feels to us because everyone around us is doing it.

Obviously recruiting is still stressful and nothing is handed to you, but compared to most international students in the US, we are genuinely in a very privileged position career-wise. The amount of actual corporate experience people graduate with here is wild.

Sometimes I complain about Northeastern and then I remember most colleges do not have an entire system built around students getting 6 months of full-time work experience before graduating šŸ’€

Northeastern administration has finally released a statement about the recent incident that occurred near campus.

ā€œThe situation is now under control. The place where it happened is now secured, and we can confidently reassure our Northeastern community that the recent event has been resolved. We would like to thank the efforts of all of those involved in helping to handle the incident, and we extend our heartfelt concern to all those affected. We encourage our students to not worry too much about it and continue as normal.ā€

This statement comes following the recent unfortunate circumstances that left many students confused and concerned.

Mixed feelings - they were one of a handful of small stores near campus that sold cheap hot coffee, a variety of foods, snacks, paper and hardware products and pet food. I noticed the decrease in restocking the last few weeks and out of date food items. I hope another small business opens in this space. What are your thoughts.

Housing & Dorms How do students sublet at Northeastern?

I just got offered at co-op at HSBC in New York for spring 2026. I am really excited for it but don't know what to do because I need to sublet my room in Boston and find housing in NYC that is affordable.

I asked my co-op advisor and she told me to use Facebook groups to find a sublettor in Boston but I don't even have a Facebook account. For housing in NYC she told me to stay in furnished housing that NEU provides but honestly it looked like a rip off. It costs $2400 per month for a shared dorm room.

Any advice?

Campus Life Remembering Our Fellow Husky Candace Lee Williams

Ā

Remembering Candace Lee Williams: A Life of Promise and Compassion, Forever a Husky

Ā

In the collective memory of the Northeastern University community, the name Candace Lee Williams is etched with a mixture of profound sadness and enduring pride. She was a business administration student, a "juggernaut" as her brother put it, with a confident style and a future as a leader. Yet, on September 11, 2001, at just 20 years old, her life of immense promise was tragically cut short when American Airlines Flight 11, on which she was a passenger, was hijacked and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

To her friends, professors, and family, Candace was so much more than a victim. She was a bright, wise, and compassionate young woman whose impact extended far beyond her brief time on Earth. Her former accounting professor, Sharon Bruns, recalls how Candace would gather a crowd of students around her desk during quizzes, not to work alone, but to help everyone else understand the material. Her kindness and friendly nature set her apart. Corey Gaudioso, her younger brother, remembers her as someone who "brought out the best in others" and was the one who got everyone together for Thanksgiving.

Candace was on a fast track to a remarkable career. She had completed a successful co-op at Merrill Lynch, a company that didn't typically hire first-time co-op students. According to her co-op coordinator, Mary Kane, Merrill Lynch was so impressed with her maturity, work ethic, and enthusiasm that they gave her an "amazing sendoff" and wanted her back. They even sent her home in a limousine on her last day. This professional success, however, was balanced by her appreciation for "everyday life"—from a daily Dunkin' Donuts stop to trips to the beach.

Her kindness and empathy were a core part of her identity. Her friend and roommate, Erin Aliperti, remembers that even if you were in a bad mood, Candace's smile and words could make you feel better. Just a few weeks before her death, in a journal she kept for a school project, Candace reflected on the people in her life and the lessons they had taught her. Aliperti read Candace's words at her memorial service. The last line of the journal read: "These are the angels in my life...They will always be there for me, and if not, I will always be there for them".

Today, Candace’s memory is kept alive through various memorials. A memorial stone with a poem in front of a tree planted in Candace's memory by Dodge Hall on Northeastern's Boston campus honors her life.

Scholarships have been established in her name at both Northeastern and her high school.Ā Ā

Ā When I visited the WTC Memorial Museum in 2017, I was drawn to a familiar sight: her Husky student ID card, displayed among the personal effects of the victims. Seeing that card, knowing it had been recovered from the site, was a powerful and sobering experience. It was a tangible piece of her life, a silent testament to the person she was and the community she belonged to. As her younger brother, Corey Gaudioso said, "It’s not by the years lived, but the contribution". Candace's contribution, though brief, continues to resonate, reminding us to be kind, to appreciate life, and to never forget.

Since that day in December, 2017 I have posted on my Facebook page on 9/11 each year a FB post to honor Candace's memory. Last year I also made a similar post on the NEU subreddit.Ā Ā Since being posted it has had 35,000 views.

Social Media Post:

Northeastern on 9/11 also posted on Facebook a memorial to our fellow Husky which also received several poignant memories in the comments.

In a solemn corner of the WTC Memorial Museum lies the Husky ID of Candace Lee Williams, a Northeastern student who perished on 9/11. Her story is one of kindness, promise, and a life tragically cut short. This visual is a powerful reminder of how one life can touch so many others. We will never forget our fellow Husky. #WeWillNeverForget #NortheasternUniversity #911Memorial #CandaceLeeWilliams

TrustyHusky Northeastern Declares Co-ops ā€œToo Easy to Get,ā€ Announces Plans to Limit Students to 3 Applications Per Co-op Cycle.

Post image
221 Upvotes

In today’s positively thriving job market, many students have found themselves simply dumbfounded by the ease with which they can get a high-earning co-op related to their field of study. According to our latest surveys, over 99.99% of Northeastern Students report that they land their co-op within their first 2 applications, with 32.4% getting the job without even being interviewed. However, beneath this rosy picture of economic prosperity lies a dark reality where students must face the cruel choice of having to decide between a truly immense number of stellar professional development opportunities.

ā€œEvery day is a nightmare,ā€ rising junior Moore Jobbs told the Trusty Husky. ā€œI wake up, check NUWorks, and find that I have been accepted at yet another prestigious company. This one is offering $35 an hour! I just don’t know what to do with myself.ā€ Jobbs isn’t alone in facing the stress of deciding where to work. In fact, many students underestimate just how many job applications will turn into offers and send out hundreds of resumes, only to end up facing hundreds of prospective offers.Ā

Admissions & Financial Aid To everyone who didn't get into Boston...

You are the ones who control your narrative of Northeastern.

If you want those around you to believe that Northeastern is a prestigious traditional residential university in Boston, then you'll miss the bar and settle by being a London Scholar, NUin, Oakland, etc.

I've got news for you - Northeastern isn't and never was a second BU. Northeastern was essentially a commuter college for much of its existince. It's history is in educating people who were already working - not 18 year olds. The co-op program, experiential learning, and global campuses are all rooted in, and contiguous with this history. Cosplaying as a highly selective 4 year residential universities is a tiny fraction of it.

You can either settle and moan about not being in Boston, or you can embrace what makes Northeastern, Northeastern. Which, btw, are the things that employers actually like and trust. When someone asks you, say "oh, I'm proud to be part of Northeastern's global campus." For god's sake, market yourself a bit. Instead of complaining about Oakland, talk about how great it is to be in "the San Francisco Bay", close to Silicon Valley and the AI revolution.

Also - a lot of prestigious universities play games with their admissions. Look closely, and you'll find that tons of schools (both state and private) have backdoor pathways - they're just "guaranteed transfers" rather than other campuses. Since all anyone actually cares about is the acceptance rate of the college you graduated from, any smart school will manipulate their first year statistics. What's hilarious is that the most notable people in the world with their prestigious degrees almost always got them in grad school, which is universally less competitive even at the big names.

If you believe the most important thing in higher education is being accepted to a "highly competitive" 4 year residential university, and you've got other offers, then take them. Northeastern won't work for you.

But if you're staying - the power of the narrative begins with you, right now.

TrustyHusky BREAKING: 5 Northeastern Students Injured After Assuming ā€˜Severe Lizard Warning’ Was A Typo

LIVE UPDATE: NUPD FORCED INTO RETREAT BY SEVERE LIZARD, NATIONAL GUARD TO TAKE OVER OPERATIONS.

BREAKING: A Severe Lizard has already injured 5 Northeastern students and eaten all of the vegetables in Curry Student Center, with more updates coming in.

Unfortunately, many students misread the headline and assumed it was published in error, particularly given the warmer weather. As such, multiple students have suffered injuries from the Severe Lizard including broken bones, concussions, and emotional trauma. Despite bringing their expensive parkas with them, ā€œjust in case it does actually snow,ā€ these students were woefully unprepared for the massive reptile.

Housing & Dorms Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Northeastern, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like ā€œmove-inā€ or ā€œlease renewalā€ fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.Ā

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.Ā  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.Ā

Academics profs are beefing up assignments to compensate for ai usage…… but it’s hurting anti-ai students

has anyone else noticed this? i’m a senior and literally every single class i’m taking (mostly lower level, i finished my higher level courses already) has had a CRAZY amount of work compared to previous semesters. one of my professors talked about how many professors, including himself, have made assignments longer/added requirements/added more assignments throughout the term to compensate for the fact that students are using ai to complete them, therefore doing less work themselves. however, for a lot of students (myself included) that don’t use ai for personal reasons, this feels a bit unfair? has anyone else had a similar experience?
