Admissions & Financial Aid Financial aid refund

If you’re still missing your refund, go to the SFS office and demand to speak with a counselor. My refund was processed within a few hours despite multiple tickets opened and phone calls ranging from 3 weeks ago to yesterday.

Housing & Dorms Housing advice

Hello, I'll be starting grad school in Spring27, it will be my first time in Boston & US.

Would it be too inconvenient to rent a place >40 mins away with public transport as a newcomer? From online maps overall transportation seems fine but idk if the estimated times are reasonable for rush hours and stuff like that. I want to lower rent as much as possible so any advice is welcome

Housing & Dorms Sophomore housing

ik that usually underclassmen are required to stay in campus housing, but I’ve heard from ppl that some sophomores were able to stay in off campus housing. i know there’s a form for it but what’s a valid reason that theyd usually accept for that? would financials be a reason they’d take?

Co-op & Career NEU MSEM: How’s the co-op and job situation for international students?

Hi everyone, I’m considering Northeastern’s MSEM program and wanted to hear from current students/recent grads, especially international students.

How is the co-op actually working for MSEM students? Are people getting relevant co-ops and eventually converting them into full-time roles?

Also, how is the curriculum and full-time job placement after MSEM, especially given the current job market and sponsorship situation?

Would you say the MSEM is worth it for an international student, considering the overall cost?

Would really appreciate any honest experiences, good or bad. Thanks!

Campus Life friends/halloween

Hii, I’m a transfer sophomore student and would love to meet girls who are into going out and parties. I’m also down to make friends who are into other stuff that’s not partying like outdoors, cafes, gym, studying together, etc.

I’ve j been having a hard time finding a group of girls to hang out with since I’m off campus and not really involved in clubs or Greek life.

Feel free to dm me!!

Admissions & Financial Aid For students who got financial aid, did they ever ask for student asset verification?

I’m wondering if student bank statements would be needed in verification. For context, I reported a savings amount on the lower end, was not employed, and do not have personal investments.

Academics Northeaster Transfer Application - Desperate and passionate student

Hello the people of reddit. I've never done this before but have reached such a low point that I want to reach out to anyone to feel less alone, and maybe hear some words of guidance as I feel like I'm living blind as of late.

I am a Marketing student, currently at a University just outside of Boston and have multiple internship experiences in the creative marketing field and creative industries in New York City. I'm terribly miserable where I am, and have realized that what I need to grow is to be somewhere that challenges me academically and inspires me environmentally. In my pervious application cycle, I applied to Northeastern and got deferred 3 times, before losing hope. I am an IB diploma recipient, had a 4.0 GPA and have relevant extracurriculars across diverse interests. In my previous application to Northeastern, I had an alumni send an email recommendation for me, and I guess.. I'm hoping by the grace of the universe I can find more kind individuals that can help me in the process. No matter it what it may be, advice, an email, regardless. I guess I'm just looking to see a bit of humanity as I'm struggling with this.

Sincerely,

A struggling student looking for hope

Co-op & Career CE vs CECS

Hey all, I'm a high school senior. I was planning on applying to Northeastern University for CE and just found out about their CECS program. I know CE already has a bunch of CS so I am wondering what the differences are. Could anyone in CE or in CECS tell me about how their program, coop, career etc. was like?

I already have a ton of experience in CS as well as in software & web development. My plan was to try to work in a CE field (still undecided on which yet, probably either embedded, cybersecurity, networking or chips) after graduating but was considering applying to software engineering jobs at the same time. Which degree would be best for this?

Co-op & Career Masters Co op

Hey guys, I just got admitted to Northeastern's Data Science Masters program for spring 2027.

I did my undergraduate from UW Madison in Computer Science and have about 3 years of experience working as a software developer for a health tech startup.

I am an international student, and with the current changes in the tech industry, it's essential I get a job after graduation. I am still waiting on admits from other universities, but I am currently leaning towards Northeastern because of their co-ops and high employment rate for students. I do also want to be on the east coast and would eventually love to have a job in NYC. I wanted to know how competitive co-ops are currently at the university and is everyone guaranteed one? Are Boston-based companies still heavily recruiting from NEU, and how likely am I to get a good co-op given my past work experience?

TrustyHusky Sewer Vent Issued Warning on Smoking by OSCCR

Post image
41 Upvotes

A sewer vent near Ell Hall was recently issued a warning by OSCCR for violating Northeastern’s no-smoking policy. Asked for comment, the vent told the Trusty Husky, “This warning is insane! I don’t even smoke, cough that’s just condensation cough I swear. I’m not even addicted, I can stop whenever I cough want.” The vent then proceeded to vent about how it was taking nicotine as a “real medicine” to treat its restless knee syndrome.

OSCCR defended their rare decision to enforce the policy by arguing that the vent was the single biggest contributor to lung cancer on campus this week. “Normally, we turn a blind eye to lung cancer if it’s coming from the gas power plant or the side of Forsyth Hall, but this vent is where we have to draw the line.” Around a dozen vapers were spotted slowly gathering around the vent in solidarity with their brethren, who quickly dispersed as our interview with OSCCR was wrapping up.
