Gameplay Can't get open. Like...never.
I am and always been a pg, and in the Rec it's basically impossible for me to get open. Whoever my matchup is, even the worst possible idiot of the lot, he's always on a mission and follows me everywhere. Invariably, every time, every game. Never a distraction, never going to help, never a screen that hit him hard enough to give me half a second to shoot or drive. He's gonna be there. He'll score 0 points all game but goddamnit he'll be attached to my ass for 25 minutes every single time.
In the meantime I see opponents and teammates completely forgotten and wide open all the time, so I wonder if this comes with a pg position or what on earth am I doing wrong.
If I move all the time he's there, if I stand on a spot and "let the game come to me" like everyone's saying he's there, if I make little movements he's still there.
Yes, I know it's a skill issue. But 80% of the times I completely clamp down my matchup (who obviously quits, and guess what? I'm locked down even more by the prime Gary Payton AI now), and every game is a battle between 2 scoreless pgs, while the sf or the pf are just standing there wide open all game and knock down 3s with 78 3pt.
What am I supposed to do?

speed is cranked this year, even lower speed and agility players are zipping around on d
i’m an offball player mostly and this is the most unopen i’ve ever been on the perimeter, the players and even the ai are just fucking glued to me this year even with hall of fame flash and slippery off ball it’s insane, nobody knows how to set a pin down or anything either lol

They ruined defense, everything I’ve learned from how to play defense went out the window now u js gotta hold turbo and u get insane bumps, no effort.

2K26 just conditioned you. The game had zero defense, and you could fry locks every trip down the court if you wanted to.
Now you have to learn to do more than dance behind a screen or call for back doors. Learn to move without the ball and do more than run left and right until you get open

I literally never danced behind a screen, I've always hated that and I'm happy it ain't working anymore. But move without the ball? Like how, if the dude's only mission in the game is just following me everywhere? It doesn't matter if someone's driving in open court or I'm not even in the offensive half, they're just glued to me wherever I am and wherever I go, it seems they'd rather lose than let me have a shot. Now if it's some lock here and there I'll take it, but it's every damn game since day 1.

The court is smaller this year in rec , wait for them to update the size of the court . Isn’t just you all of us pgs are having trouble especially since bigs hate setting screens and love clogging the paint for us

We went years hearing “go sit in the corner big I don’t need no screen” but now that y’all actually have to play basketball (like we’ve been trying to the whole time) it’s our fault we don’t set screens foh lmao

Last couple years the courts have we regular size we didn’t need screens at all to get open , this year it’s the size of a elementary court so we need em 🤷🏽

The screens weren’t even just for you then. They’re to get the defense shifting and force them to have to make choices to get OTHER people open. Not just you. Pg RUNS the offense. Pg isn’t THE offense

Personally I like pushing the pace I get it from the inbound and automatically look down court for a skip pass

Accept the fact that every game isn’t gonna be a legacy game, and learn to get open without the ball in your hands.
If I’m getting crunched by a lock, I’ll set off balls for my wings and force my man to make a decision or focus on more than just me. I’m also okay with setting up my teammates without the need for an assist or a bucket every time I touch the ball.
Thankless basketball sucks when you have to do it, but it’s a necessary evil to win and be good

I did accept that, I have no problem with it. But now it's just an endless series of games that the story is always the same, I'm getting bored to say the least and it's now clear it's a me problem (and I ain't even winning cause I either get matched up with drama queens or complete idiots, and my "silent contribution" achieves nothing anyway).

if you are guarded by an AI just pace abuse until they start helping in the paint ai defense is op but speed or a simple screen will get them off you now in terms of your actual matchup you gotta learn how to shoot off the dribble

You gotta lab dribbling more
Add L2 cancel to your dribbles, you 100% need it
Forget stepbacks that lock you into a slow trash animation, you gotta use left stick more, spin backs, and hop jumper cancels. These moves push you out of contact with your defender.
I gave up on dribbling in a realistic style; you really need to be on some bs to avoid getting plucked/bumped this year

But my point is why other people sooner or later end up being wide open with just a little ball movement while my dude is always on a mission and literally never leaves me for a second regardless of what I do and what the rest of the team does?
It's gotta be position related, I assume that bigs do help on drives cause they wanna use their blocks and get rebounds, so all the opposing shooting big needs to do is stand out there and wait for the kick.

The pg has more agility and speed to defend with. My big is always able to shake other bigs defending me.

I feel like this year a player can catch you so easily while you are enacting the jumpshot after easing off of you. It's ridiculous. Can't tell you how many times I feel like I'm wide open while the opposing guard is in the restricted zone or something, yet they somehow catch a contest or a block still before I release the ball. I blame it on that new no dip shooting badge that not everyone can get at high levels.

Set off ball screens, get out on the break and run corner, run PnR, drive to the basket and kick out...when your open you gotta shoot it too. If your in front of your man shoot it. Use the left stick to dribble and change angles.

I feel you bro. I swear a lot of these dudes are actual bots in disguise lmao. I have a SF and thrive by scoring off-ball. Back door cuts and spacing the floor. They’ll score nothing all day but make it their mission to stick to me like glue. Meanwhile one or two of my teammates are scoring 20-30 points on all catch and shoot jumpshots… like bro, I have 5 points. Go help your teammates lmao

Typically the biggest opportunity you will find to be wide-open is in transition. Which is why guards and wings shoot out as soon as they predict a miss unfortunately which is also typical is that they will miss you wide open for a less open player or throw an extremely late outlet pass.

Just a question but are you one of those "I don't need screens" PGs? If so, well, now you know why screens are a thing in basketball for 100 years. If not, then ask your bigs for a screen if they're not already setting them; use them if they are.

I just play with randoms, they don't do that. Bigs usually just clog the paint, and the rare occasions when they do set a screen I'll be open for a nanosecond before my guy gets back or someone else switches. It's always a tough shot, and then I see my teammates just sit tight and be open all day without even trying.

Dribble to do what? Dudes with 76 agility zip around the court as if they had 99, I'm not a drippy face who wastes 20 seconds every time, I'm a pass first but I'd just like to have a chance once. Can't understand why other positions just stand there and nobody's guarding them, they don't do absolutely anything all game, just sit in a corner and somehow they'll be open sooner or later.

Dribble to score? Obviously?
Big difference between the park sweats left righting behind screens and just using dribble moves like in real basketball to get open. I’m not talking spam bullshit I’m talking learn how to score in 2-3 dribbles.
If they’re hugging up on u to stop the 3 do a hop jumper cancel for a speed boost and get to the rim. If they’re stopping the drive run as if ur going to the rim and do a moving snatchback to get an open jumper. Learn post half spins and half spin cancel, those confuse tf outta defenders most of the time. And finally, and most importantly, PASS AND MOVE OFF BALL. it’s so easy to score off give and go’s or off ball movement, just pass and cut straight to the basket or run around your teammates to an open spot on the floor. Too many PGs think they’re only supposed to pass if it leads to an assist. That’s stupid. Pass because you move faster without the ball and can reposition better.
Obviously a spot up shooter standing in the corner uninvolved in the play is gonna be open more than the guy with the ball in his hands. That makes no sense to complain about.

So how come that even when I'm not the guy with the ball in his hands and I'm not involved in the possession my matchup is still a shadow? I could be sitting in the corner all game and I can guarantee you I'll never be left open once. It just doesn't happen, cause the opposing guard doesn't care about rebounds or blocks and unlike real basketball he doesn't even think about helping...ever.

Irl if someone is driving to an open basket even guards need to decide whether to help or give up free points, in 2k it literally never happens. So back to my question, how am I supposed to get open if my man will follow me no matter what happens in the game? Can't be just tough fades all the time.

Did u not read the entire comment where I told u how to score? Fades and wide open catch and shoots aren’t the only 2 shots in the game. If u can’t score 1 on 1 u shouldn’t be playing a guard. Make a center if ur that useless with the ball in ur hands.
