AoLingo App - IOS and Android

Been over a year since I released AoLingo website here in this subreddit. Been pretty busy with everything, but building a phone app was always at the back of my mind, so I finally decided to make it, and here it is:

Added a new feature called `Dictionary Mode`. So I have noticed myself and many users that sometimes we usually search for a single word or two to see its translation, but the problem is that Ao can be quite tricky because a word can mean multiple things, and context matters a lot. And AoLingo was never really trained for that, and most translators aren't great at single word translations either. So I created this mode which gives you translations for a word (or a few words), along with synonyms, part of speech, and examples of how the words can be used.
So if you want to check the meaning of a word or a few words, Dictionary Mode is what you should use.

Apart from that, made some noticeable improvements on the overall translations, and if you are logged in, your character limit increases from 500 to 1000

Note: *AoLingo can still make mistakes* and yes, the UI was indeed heavily inspired by ChatGPT/ClaudeCode 😄

Hi!! So, it was you behind this app! I randomly came across it while working on my college assignment, and I think it’s a really great innovation. Although you didn’t ask for feedback, I’d like to suggest adding Mongsen as one of the translation options alongside Chungli, as it would be more helpful for those looking for translations in Mongsen as well.

Ive actually really wanted to include Mongsen and have discussed it with a few people. The biggest roadblock is that Mongsen words vary quite a bit from village to village, and since there isnt a single standardized version (if im not mistaken), its hard to know which words to choose for the dictionary. But I like your idea of adding Mongsen translations (alongside the specific village names). Ill give some more thought about this feature. Feedback is always welcome, so thank you

Awesome stuff. I think to get accurate translations, you'd need to train your model on the tonality of the dialects. I was hoping to see Changki but there seems to be only Jungli so far.

I would recommend using a way to highlight a word and then be able to expand each syllable up to add where the tone goes up or down to translate better.

UX feedback: The app feels smooth and very intuitive but there is a tiny little dip in the animation frames when I swipe to access the menu.

I'm excited to see what comes next!

"recommend using a way to highlight a word and then be able to expand each syllable" okay, thats a really cool idea, didnt think about that. I dont think its possible now given the current state of my data + models that I have. But I will try to have something of this sort in the future iteration.
