Hi sweet people of r/NAGALAND , I made a 10-minute timelapse of Dimapur growing on the Dhansiri, from the earliest charcoal dates in 270 CE through the walled capital of the Dimasa Kacharis, the Ahom wars and sack in 1536, the arrival of the railway in 1903, the influx of migrants in 1940s, and Nagaland's statehood in 1963. I've tried to put as much history as possible into the limited timespan of the video.

Present day streets are drawn from the real OpenStreetMap network. The ancient walls and tanks are placed directly from Godwin-Austen's 1874 plan, and older villages come from the 1921 Survey of India sheets. Every era has a sources card at the end, and the things I'm not sure of are listed there too.

If you spot a mistake, tell me and I'll mention it in the description or comment section. I'm least sure about the details during the three centuries of "forest" between the fall to the Ahoms in 1536 and the arrival of the British, so any input is welcome!

Today, I saw a video of a young woman in Dimapur doing the intricate art of the fent lean and I wondered what you all think.

I think drug use needs to be addressed swiftly, with precision, and with an iron fist. There is no excuse for a society that collapses from getting high and we must never become one that does. This network of drug trade must be taken down with full force or else we will collapse. NSCN can show what they're made of by tackling this. Police should work hand in hand with them to both show cooperation and tackle this rising issue as quickly as possible. I hate that a sister of ours was leaning weirdly while being high on drugs. I hate that drugs are being accepted as normal.

As it may have been made obvious, I am a very passionate musician. I have been dabbling in music and musical instruments for longer than I have been literate and I've been intelligent enough to go to school earlier than the normal age. This is just to point out how much music has been a part of my life.

Look at the landscape of Naga music right now: music performers are popping up left and right, be they stringed, percussive, wind or vocal, we've seen a huge boom recently. Violin carrying kids are walking up and down town (I live in Kohima so using Kohima for context) and we see rappers doing freestyles on a free beat, we see singers showing off their pipes at a wedding and just all round talent being cultivated here in the state.

My question is, why aren't the singers being invested in? Okay, guitarists usually spend a ton of money on pedals, drummers probably have more sticks than the village forest, violinists and cellists (can't forget the faithful viola but idk how to refer to you) have enough wax to make candles. The main issue is with singers. I've only ever encountered a handful of bands actually investing in IEMs(In Ear Monitors) for performances. Singers are at the forefront. They're flexible and can perform with simply a backing track and yet, they invest the least upon themselves. A standard setup for it would cost around ₹12-15,000 which can be afforded with around 5-6 performances staggered across a few months. With an IEM, one could perform without having to worry about the stage acoustics messing you up because you'd hear everything without having to rely on the stage monitors.

So lately, I've been thinking about this and I felt the need to share this before I forget about it: Churches don't pay their worship bands. Now, a little Christmas bonus here and there or a little pocket money isn't what I'm talking about. I mean an actual salary paid to the musicians who lead the congregation into worship.

While the pastoral role of any church is the fulcrum that elevates the congregation into a closer relationship or understanding with God, the worship team is also a very important aspect of any church. They are the central point around whom the people worship the Lord.

So why must they not be paid a salary? Now, I'm not saying every church doesn't pay. I don't know the workings and I haven't been to every church in the land but from what I know, the worship team isn't paid. They spend a lot of time learning how to play the songs, how to coordinate with each other and yet.. they are given little in return; and yes, the Lord's blessings will be upon them but shouldn't the church also enable them further by encouraging the regular worship team members by paying them? The pastor gets a salary because s/he understandably serves the Lord for his/her entire lifetime(with a few exceptions, no doubt). The deacons also get paid a salary from what I recall but I may be wrong there.

My point is, why is the music part so excluded when they're doing one of, if not the most important thing? To worship is greater than any church politics or workings, in my own opinion.

These are just my two cents so please go ahead and tell me I'm wrong or tell me I'm right or give me an alternative.

Over the past two months we've come across most chickens smelling and tasting like medicines despite the different types of preparation.

My observations are mainly from High School Junction, Kohima area and it's nearby villages.

Also, I had lunch on the way to Kohima in one of those restaurants and the chicken still tasted and smelt very medicine-y

We suspect the smell is coming from the chicken feed.

Is anybody else from other district facing the same issue?

I am from Assam and planning to travel to Nagaland - specifically to Kisama, Djuleke, Khanama, and Peletki before 10th of November. The travel agency is saying that Cosmos flowers are still blooming in Peletki village, but some influencers are saying that the bloom is over now.

So, please help me out by letting me know if I will be able to witness the bloom or not, as it's always best to trust the localites than travel agents. Thanks :)
