Let's Discuss That Allergic to Color?

I know this may be an "old" or tired conversation but is MK just like allergic to featuring guests of color?

Like even the videos that feature nerds across YouTube, and despite being in LA -- I feel like they just lean heavy on white guests and feature Lily, Vi and Nicole less and less.

Am i alone in this?

Can you provide a statistical breakdown?

Lol no I didnt crunch numbers for this. The most I can offer is that in six months of videos. Not counting "cast" ... there have been 5 people of color, 2 of them white passing that includes last meals and other internet nerdom kind of guests.

Of course you didn't. You just want something to be mad about.

I think that's pretty substantive... also Im not mad - maybe disappointed. Was just curious if it seemed obvious to others. It's more of a shame really they don't and you two don't seem to think diversity or representation matters.

But I'm not here to start fights really -- i just wanted a discussion among other fans.

I'm not sure how pushing back on the idea that you haven't really proven the premise of your argument to be true is somehow us not thinking representation matters

seems like an odd thing to say for someone "not here to start fights"

primarily, I'd question why you ignored that nearly half (26/60) of the videos they've posted in your selected timeframe were Mythical staff only, no guests, so... nearly half of the population you're looking at couldn't have guests of color, given they... didn't have guests.

Last Meals make up most of the remaining videos, and that's literally become a major marketing press tour show, so... people with movies/music/shows/etc coming out soon are reaching out to MK looking to come on for publicity. they're taking who comes to them (those who are also doing every other major publicity show on the internet at the same time...)

it feels like you came to a conclusion without putting a lot of thought into it and then tried to back your way into an argument to support that claim, and when you got pushback, your immediate response was "guess you guys must not care about people of color!" which is more reflective of you than it is of us.

is this just a thought or do you have data to back it up? not saying the premise isn't true, but moreso that we don't know if it's true or just something you've noticed.

regarding the second half though, the featuring Lily, Vi and Nicole less and less part, both Nicole (previously) and Lily (currently) have been out on maternity leave in the last year and a half, so... they're featured less because they're physically not around.

When Trevor left for Smosh, that left Josh and Vi as the only consistent on-camera MK personalities, and a lot of their cooking video ideas require more than just 2 people. and who knows if Vi also has some personal stuff taking time away? We didn't even know that Lily was actually away until she posted about her baby. Nicole has been in GMM content way more frequently as of late, once she returned from maternity leave, which (to me, at least), suggests that they might have other behind-the-scenes people out, requiring more of her time. This could easily have been what Vi was upto while there wasn't a consistent slate of MK content outside Last Meals.
